Yes. A behaviourist who is very well respected and often recommended on this forum told me that you can never rely on management alone - in all probability you will slip up one day, so you need to work on behaviour modification. You can do that with consenting adults - something goes wrong with counter-conditioning and they get a nip, but not with a baby.
-
The dog isn't being PTS as a punishment.

I don't believe VAN has kangaroo if you by the dry gran mix. Rather, he suggests you use that as a protein source, but you can use anything you want. A few people here have use the Augustine diet with great success. However, no one that I know cooks the food - their dogs get raw. Cooking can reduce the nutritional value of food.

mine can look that way too - that isn't what I'm concerned about. I have seen young pups hot-housed. They love it at first but by the time they're 2 you have a burnt out dog.
-
I was hoping that too. yes - she is adorable and very smart. However, I would be worried about the pup being hot-housed. The best trainers in the world keep things loosey-goosey and fun when they are young IMO.

Given that the dog is actively attacking your son, I would PTS. I wouldn't even consult a professional to be honest - as one slip up, one gate open could result in your baby losing an eye or worse. With adults you can take risks and try behaviour modification - you can't with babies IMO. ETA: of course the dogs life has changed since the baby was born - that is life . Most dogs adjust, but some don't.

If you order the stick in the ground poles and some small jump cups you get jumps and weavers. I ordered them when they had store-wide free shipping 18 months ago, but even with postage they are cheaper than a lot of the stuff around.

Younger Dog Not Wanting To Be Close To The Older Dog
megan_ replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep - and dominance can be very subtle without a growl ever happening. My two get along well and they both get turns having the toys etc. However, my girl is the boss of my boy and sometimes she will just sit next to him - he knows to move. There is no fighting, no growling, but he knows she means business. I'm lucky that she doesn't abuse this power, and he is submissive. It doesn't cause issues between my two and my boy is confident around her - he knicks toys off of her, plays with her, steals her spot etc 95% of the time and she lets him. However, it seems like your younger one is "suffering" the consequences of the relationship. -
What state are you in? If you are in vic you need a GAP. Certified grey if you want to take them out in public without a muzzle

great run!

yeah, but your dog is being attacked - would you seriously just keep walking your dog and letting them get attacked? I assume you don't dogs that aren't good at defending themselves?
-
Fergus passed the delta test Erny, but we didn't proceed for a number of reasons. That said, I do wonder if he is a bit "soft"/submissive for this kind of role? I know some people can be unintentionally rough.

But does your "yes" or "good" mean the behaviour can finish? I use "yes" as a clicker marker - you've nailed it and you are now free to get the noms "good" means you're heading in the right direction, carry on. I taught this with something they already knew (sit stay). So I said "sit" "good" and treated them in position (they normally popped up, thinking they had been released, so I said "uh uh" in a neutral tone, they sat, I released etc). This gave them the understanding that "good" meant continue. WRT to healing, there is a box method that helps teach the position and hind leg awareness really well - there would be tons on youtube. I also focus on teaching the position for a loooooong time before I started to walk. If they know that being on your left is the best place in the world, they will walk when you walk...

I tried the Super Fuela nd it didn't suit my dogs - very high fat content so interesting poops, even after a few weeks. Might suit Elsie though.

I saw that on cleanrun's FB page and laughed out loud. The dog is apparently a mini minpin. Obviously not recognised here but does anyone know if they are legit in the US?

Separation Anxiety - Rescue Dogs Help!
megan_ replied to Paddo Pup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have never tried them but I suspect she'd get burns if they're left on for hours. -
She has to jump so high - yet she still has that nice "lean" jump style. I've noticed that some dogs that need to jump high tuck their legs under - it looks awkward to me.

Well done to the winners. So there isn't going to be a big dinner this year?

Take the terriorist!

Wow. What a warm welcome to DOL.... I think it depends on the size of the workplace. I work in a large corporate in the city, with a very, very open plan office. There is very no space for dogs to pee and the building is very busy and noisy. I spend a lot of time in meetings and if my two came into the office with me they'd spend a lot of time in the crate as I wouldn't be around to look after them.

Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
megan_ replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Anyone could join the site under that name, it doesn't mean it is him. -
Get well soon Ziggy. How is he this morning staffyluv? I need to find an emergency vet that charges $700/night - I paid $1000 per night and that was for a drip (and maybe a stock standard blood test). It is manned 24/7 by a vet and nurse though.
-
If he hears the beeps though you might be accidentally conditioning him to respond to them?

Just because a breed isn't recognised by the ANKC doesn't mean the breed doesn't exist. That is like saying Murray River retrievers (sorry, I don't remember the correct name) don't exist. Either way, the owner is responsible, even if the dogs had very aggressive tendencies. You either house the dogs appropriately (locks on all gates, concrete trench to avoid digging, high walls, 2 gate systems to one slip up doesn't = near death for a person) or you PTS. If you own powerful dogs capable of killing a person, you need to be very, very careful how you manage them.

Great! I should breed my fear aggressive dog then because temperament has nothing to do with genetics!
