  1. If he has a grass allergy or an allergy to his food then omega 3 won't help him because a lack of omega 3 isn't the issue. It may help relieve things a bit but isn't the cure. BTW, dogs need the right balance of omega 3, 6 and 9, not just 3 by itself. It is important to get the balance right as too much 6, for example, can actually cause inflammation. I'd get something specifically formatted for dogs . I know lots of people using the nimsl naturals and they swear by it. The maker is nice and I'm sure you can email her any questions. With pancreatitis, the warning is there because it is high in fat / that applies to all omega 3 sources though, so best to introduce slowly.
  2. Unfortunately, meeting lots of people isn't what socialisation is about. Lots of people - and even trainers - fall into this trap. Socialisation is about controlled, positive interaction with many different things when the dog isn't entering a fear period (look at the pinned topic in this forum on puppy development, it will explain what a fear period is and what to do when your pup goes through one. This could be what is happening to your pup now). Biting your husband could be out of frustration or it could be redirected aggression (I can't bite the thing I want to bite, so I bite what is nearest). I think you need to see a real professional (not just a trainer or puppy school trainer, not a trainer at the local obedience club). If you let us know where you are based people can recommend someone. In the meantime, like Pers says, you shouldn't put your pup in situations where this can happen. Walking at 5am is good. Exposing her to more kids will NOT make this problem go away, it will make it worse (I bark and bite = kid goes away = barking and biting works!). Finally, don't beat yourself up. Raising puppies is hard and we all make mistakes. Some dogs just handle mistakes better than others.
  3. My dense we boy has never marked in my house. He does try to mark in other houses though if there is a male dog.
  4. But it could also be prey drive? That is how a dobe looked at my boy before it attacked him (not "aggression" as such, but the dog was clearly in prey drive)
  5. Aussiedog has the large mesh doggles in sale in off topic
  6. I have replied in the agility thread, but I love that pic of her - she appears to be so nonchalant. I like the NZ system which seems to encourage people going hard and fast rather than playing it safe - much nicer for the spectators and I think the dogs enjoy it more too.
  7. If you're the assembly steward there won't really be any time for sitting... They do normally set out a chair though, so you should be fine. Just remember a hat, sunblock and a rain jacket.
  8. If we were only ever allowed to start topics that have never been discussed before DOL would be long dead.
  9. Interestingly Erny I saw a link from moogoo on Facebook to a study that showed correlation of gut health with allergies. My allergies have been the worst they have been in years - I wake up with eyes so dry they hurt.
  10. How often does he go inside? Is it a "treat"? All the dogs that I know that go nuts inside spend very little time hanging about with their pack so they don't know how to chill indoors.
  11. These things get posted on FB all the time, often with just a town name change. Regardless of whether dogs are being stolen or not, they should be kept contained behind strong, tall fences with locks.
  12. That's a lovely cake! Happy birthday
  13. I agree with backjaq. I'd also take honey to the physio to check that she doesn't have any niggling pain that would do her down. I own small breeds and I know that large breeds are different, but 6 doesn't seem old to me?
  14. I don't think as all walk per day is enough for a mini schnauzer though.
  15. It is also worth remembering that, with genetics, sometimes sh*t happens. A condition may be genetic and there may be nothing that the breeder could have done to prevent it as it has never, ever showed up in their lines. My brother has a rare genetic disorder that no-one in our family tree for generations has ever shown symptoms of. It is the price that we pay for loving living creatures.
  16. I believe the owner of air dogs died and the store shut down. If you go to agility gear Australia on Facebook, there are a few suppliers.
  17. I'd take that to mean love = food and there is no way I'd pick up that someone was saying my dog was far. For family and close friends I just say "x could lose a few kilos". It isn't the same as saying someone is fat - that is tied in with psychology, emotion etc. I've never had someone be offended, but they aren't strangers and they know I love them and their dogs.
  18. They are both fine, thanks for asking. My girl did the occasional stinker but they were both energetic and upset that they missed out on dinner.
  19. You can use a short, happy "yes". A "yeeeeessss" makes it hard for the dog to know the precise moment you are marking. Karen Pryor clickers are pretty soft. I use both the clicker and a marker word (at different times of course!). I like the clicker to mean "we're doing free shaping, go for your life"
  20. It is is gal in vic to offer more rent
  21. Thanks. Knowing them ill wake up to vomiting dogs. Fergs will go outside to vomit but Lucy would do it on the bed!
  22. The dogs have just chowed down on some 4 legs (ie cooked fresh) food that has been sitting in my car since Tuesday (didn't realise it was there). It was maybe 1/2a handful. What should I do?
  23. How exciting. It is wonderful that she isn't going to be picked up by a stranger and taken to a strange place. She will be picked up by someone she knows (the lady that points the black box at the puppies)
