  1. Sometimes people assume the dog is a fake service dog because they can't see the disability....,
  2. If the vet nurse has to wipe down the seats all the time (even healthy dogs have muddy paws) I imagine it would get tiring pretty quickly
  3. Huski do you also use yes as a reward marker (and release)? Or is it release only (so you're always saying good ?)
  4. I have never seen a dog on a seat at the vets . My dogs sit on my couch, sleep in my bed etc but I don't let them jump on other people's furniture
  5. A first draft: Overall: I'm not fussed about titles, I just want my dogs to be happy, healthy and live the best lives they can. I commit to: * One walk each morning, in addition to the walks with dog walkers. * One short training session each evening (agility, scent detection, balance equipment or tracking). Fergus: * Start trialling in agility. He has been ready for ages but his hooman needs to get her act together. Should be possible to get at least JD and AD given that we're now in a training level with Excellent and Masters dogs. * Continue to build distance handling skills. Lucy: * Figure out if agility is the sport for her. She wags her tail but has trouble with it. If it isn't, swallow my pride and give DWD a go. * More tracking training as she loves it. Might even give a trial a go. * Scent detection games.
  6. Does the wobbler really exercise their mind though? They are just pushing it back and forth. Mine got it in a minute. I like the Nina Ottosson stuff, as well as the Trixie range that I get through Amazon. They have lots of different drawers to open, levers to push etc.
  7. Interestingly, Fergs got a stick stuck in his mouth when he was a wee pup. It was removed then-and-there by the vet and then I changed to PetPlan. Almost 6 years on "stick in mouth" is still an exclusion...
  8. Plush Puppy Wonder Wash is good for that Megan. You just spray some on the area and then rub with a towel. Stink gone. http://www.petnetwork.com.au/plush-puppy-wonder-wash-500ml/ Thanks. I only noticed because there were some fireworks the other night and she climbed under the covers for a cuddle. My heart melted then my nose almost did too...
  9. 1. Drop dogs at groomer 2. Pick them up a few hours later. They are mini schnauzers and get groomed every 6 weeks - I don't bath them in between visits. This seems to work well although Lucy has rolled in something, so bring on next weekend!
  10. PM wayrod - this is what they do for a living and apparently they're the best. Ever.
  11. Some dogs in Queensland where Cane Toads are bad do not have water overnight. Its tipped out so you will have live dogs in the morning. Many dogs do not have water overnight for various reasons. :) The OP asked if they could be denied water in the day too to stop them peeing everywhere (in their crates, I presume)
  12. Are they spending all day locked in their crates? Is that normal for them? 30 mins a day and the rest in crates (if I have read that correctly) isn't something I would be comfortable with.
  13. You can call an emergency vet and ask advice. Is there another one around? 1/2 an hour isn't very far away.
  14. Agree with this. There is way more to it than a dog biting simply because it is entire. That is not what the article is saying - it is saying these are common factors.
  15. Has there been a decision on whether judges can also compete?
  16. Personally, I'd book a consult with Cosmolo and get an expert to guide me. Some dogs won't be as nice as the staffy and would have gone for your dog after the first telling off. One of Cosmolo's dogs is very good at appropriately putting a naughty dog in their place - many dogs don't do this. Some dogs don't learn though and do need careful management around other dogs for the rest of their lives because they are convinced that everyone is their new best friend.
  17. I don't know anything about Weims, but a simple google searched showed hips/elbow scoring isn't mandatory in Australia for registration and there appears to be minor contreversy amongst the Weim people about HD in the breed. So... take it up with the Weim people :) Lots of tests aren't mandatory - it doesn't mean they shouldn't be done. For example, it is my understanding that the Great Dane Breed Club doesn't make any tests mandatory, but good GD breeders get hips and elbows scored. I all depends on how active the breed club is - if it is made up of people who don't test, my guess is they won't be pushing testing.
  18. I'm surprised that people support a large breed dog being used for breeding when he hasn't had his hips and elbows tested?
  19. I can't find it - it was the one about a missing mal pup that was returned
  20. She could be fearful and he hasn't done something. I have a fearful dog who is scared of most men, regardless of what they have done. Dogs with fear issues can become paranoid about tiny things (eg Lucy loves the car, but I put up one of those window shade things and she was panting and terrified). Either way, it is very rude of him. I know a few people like that - the so called Dog Whisperers" ("don't worry, all dogs love me"). You can plead with them all you like, they ignore you because they have a "gift". My solution to these people is very simple - they never, ever, ever get the opportunity to come into contact with my fearful girl. Ever. My cousin is like this and he is not invited to my house unless Lucy is in care at Cosmolos.
  21. See the first post (Q Litter): https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Michael-Ellis-School-For-Dog-Trainers/125495517463220
  22. KMart tights won't be thick enough. I'd invest in heavy duty bite wear and claim it as a tax deduction for work wear
  23. Michael Ellis has a great video of one of his litters on FB. He has a clam pool with bits of food in it, filled with empty plastic bottles. The puppies swarm over it, the noise is overwhelming but they just keep going - not one hesitates. If I figure out how to link to a FB vid I'll post it.
  24. I know you have said asking him not to come over isn't an option, but is it a short-term possibility to give her a bit of a break? When they are scared of something and they are constantly exposed with no out then there is a risk that they just get more and more fearful (like she is now). If your parents can't ask him not to visit for 2 weeks, is Kenz able to stay indoors at your house while you're at work? She might just need a break while you figure out a plan of attack. I had something (sort of) similar happen when the smoke alarm went off a few days in a row at my house. It is a horrible sound and would be worse for the dogs as they have sensitive hearing. It went off each morning for a week before I could stop the cause . They would scramble outside (I think it hurt their ears) and Fergs didn't want to come inside for about 1/2 an hour afterwards. After that, I turned the hair straighter on, it made 2 small beeps and they both ran outside. This happened every morning, when previously they didn't care about it. They associated the beeping with the fire alarm. I gave it a break for a while, had frizzy hair for a week but then they got over it.
