A good guard dog does not just attack and continue attacking while their owner beats them. An out of control dog does that. A good guard dog has nerves of steel. They are bred through generations and know how to warn, and know when they have no choice but to attack. Their aim is then - through proper training- to bring the assailant down and hold them. Their aim is not to maul. When their owner calls them off - just once - they release immediately. Of course, you need to get the right dog and put in a lot of work to get a guard dog of this standard. If you don't want to do all of this, then you shouldn't be getting a dog with strong guarding instincts. I shudder when people come on DOL asking for a guard dog to keep them safe. A watch dog is adequate for most people. A good guard dog is a wonderful thing I love watching videos of Steve & bec's dogs for example), but with them comes great responsibility - much more so that joe average and his average dog.

There are conflicting reports. Witnesses say that the boy opened the gate . If you have an unlocked gate then you can't have your dogs loose in the front yard. That isn't adequate containment and you aren't providing safe passage as required by law. Even without the law, you'd be pretty stupid to have two powerful dogs that anyone could let out. If the boy jumped the fence and the fence was at least 6' then I don't believe the owners are to blame.

When my Darcy was diagnosed with a spinal problem, his ball chasing stopped that day on vet's advice. The only retrieving he gets to do now is from throws into water. I wasn't suggesting zig chase a ball. I meant that prior to diagnoses he was chasing a ball and looked fine - his drive made him work through the pain. My point is that not showing pain doesn't mean that the dog isn't in pain. As soon as we went to the physio chasing the ball and doing agility stopped until we had the all clear from her and the vets. Eta: even when the vet was pushing and prodding , the only initial pain response was him slightly closing his eyes.

When fergus had a back problem he still chased a ball. The reason I suspected something was that he started to avoid some jumps in agility. People thought I was crazy when I took him to the physio but she was onto it immediately. Not showing pain doesn't mean a dog isn't very sore - showing pain can mean getting left behind by the pack so they just suck it up.

This is a wild animal though, I doubt he cares whether he ears meat or human hand...

I used them a few years ago and the service was terrible . Ordered two bags of food. Nothing arrived so I email and emailed. One bag finally pitched up . Rang them to politely ask about the second bag and the guy was very rude - how date I want to know where the bag of food I paid for a month ago was! Eventually got my money back but I'll never use them again.

Heads Up More Breed Specific Legislation On The Table

The breeder of my sisters French bulldog told her to assume that her dog would have problems breathing and budget for surgery. How can anyone breed dogs where a high % of the litter will require surgery? I know all French bulldogs aren't like that, but there do seem to be a fair few churning out these pups. Her vet said he sees lots of them for the same problems. Where is the breed club making a stand (a genuine question?). Are dogs that snort when running made to leave the ring? -
With grooming, if his owner isn't up to it the groomer that I goes to does lots of schnauzers for show (all the varieties ), hand strips them at really good prices. She's won a fair few grooming comps with my cousins standard and even handles some dogs. PM me if you want her details.

Heads Up More Breed Specific Legislation On The Table

Registered doesn't mean ethical though. Registered means sitting a test ( though not in all states), paying a fee and breeding from mains registered dogs. I agree with Steve - the cc's need to be seen to do something. Going to war won't win them anything. -

If she was rugged up in winter woollies then she could be attacked and not have a mark I. Her. This wouldn't be the first time a dog was off leash in an on leash environment - I don't see how that makes the report odd? ETA: it isn't only grumpy dogs that attack. Sometimes dogs that are otherwise social attack. Are you saying you don't think it happened mrs rb because you haven't seen a grumpy staffy at this beach before?

Can Dogs Have Distilled Water?
megan_ replied to Queen Maeby's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Bottled water is terrible for the environment - even if you recycle the bottles. -
I only feed softer bones like wings and necks. I wouldn't feed Susanne as they are weight bearing and the risk is that a tooth will crack. Lambs necks chopped into noisettes are also a great option for small dogs.

Plenty of large scale breeders sell direct to the public - more money that way -

They don't do site wide free shipping any more I think? They lost a lot of money from it a few years who. -
I've been watching them too DD - I might be biased but I looooove the mini schnauzer.
-
Given that it is a sharp object, they might not want her to pass it.

It should be covered as it was an accident (I assume you're covered for accident and illness). They do take a while to process your first claim and you'll need to give them her entire vet history, but they are good with paying up.

Me too. I can see a need to keep a dog for evidentiary purposes to a certain point but presumably by now there's nothing keeping the dog would contribute. Suppose if she thinks she has a chance on appeal and she wants to recover the dog it would make a kind of sense, but I would much rather see the dog homed somewhere. Also, considering it was a 38C day, I'm guessing the chance of a successful appeal is not going to be very high. Honestly, I have no idea what people are thinking or not thinking, the picture with the ribbons on the cargo barrier sends a terrible message about dog show people. We should know better. She also said she can't guarantee that she wouldn't do it again , so I can understand not giving the dog back. Selfish idiot .

Please don't do this. He may actually be scared and correcting him is just reinforcing that fluffy dogs lead to bad things. Don't mess around - see a behaviourist. Someone reputable like Steve from k9pro or cosmolo (I'm naming them because I've dealt with them before). Exposing your dog to them more and more until you know what is happening can make things MUCH worse. In the interim, avoid exposing him to fluffy dogs. This might mean less time at the dog park until this is sorted. ETA: whether it is aggression or not won't make a difference to the dog on the receiving end - it is rude and they might want to put him in his place . There are also many types of aggression - including fear aggression. As hank dog said tail wag doesn't mean friendly. In fact, a stiff erect tail wag can mean the exact opposite in many breeds.
