  1. I think you did the right thing. Most shelters would rather not see you walk through the door with another kitten/cat. Yeah it could have belonged to someone. Not a very responsible person if they do. At least you offered it a warm place and got rid of the fleas any shelter would appreciate that too. Thanks for being a doo gooder!
  2. yes has happened to my girl twice, not sure what she got into. she digs though and I think it could have been ants nest, ants are bad here in WA. All year round it seems.
  3. My husband and I had this same discussion when we bought our puppy a few weeks ago. The breeder had 3 litters. Had a couple litters that I had enquired about a couple months before when I said I wanted a show quality puppy. She was honest and said this wasn't the litters for me then. 5 litters though in a space of 6 months seems like a lot. At the same time her dogs are gorgeous. They win titles lovely temperments. It was the kind of puppy I wanted. So why wouldn't the rest of the population want one of these puppies too if it's the breed they are looking for. She had no problem selling these puppies. When you look at what my puppy came with there wasn't much of a profit with main registration, vet checks etc She had a lots of mouths to feed and bills associated I'm sure. I don't know anything about breeding either and it would happen no matter how many litters she had, joe blogs is going to take his puppy over to his friends place to mate with their dog and share the profit. That's extremely sad. Cause this gorgeous dog she produced for me by finding the right lines by importing and getting proper health checks for her dogs, if the people buying from backyard breeders just waited, paid a couple hundred more they would get a nice quality puppy from someone that will be there anytime they need help and a health garuntee to boot.
  4. We are using a crate at night it's working really well so far. I take him out during the day. Except when I got busy today and he's looking out the door like I know I need to be out there and he just peed. lol Not bad for almost 9weeks though.
  5. Hi everyone, Just wanted to ask if anyone here used the northern suburbs obedience club here in perth? What's it like? Interested in their puppy classes. Thanks Jess
  6. No I wouldn't do training pads either. We have a backyard but I take our puppy out the front for now. He's almost 9weeks and is doing great, only taken about 3 days to learn the routine. You will just have to train her twice otherwise. If you really want her to use to pads, your gonna have to catch her in the act and put her on them. Clean the area on the lino with vinegar that may help. Put the pad over the spot where she usually goes. Jess
  7. ok I have to ask. My husband and I were at a dog show a couple weekends ago and we seen this lady combing her dogs coat with this dog brush. Then she picked it up and brushed her own hair with it. Is this a common thing? lol
  8. I notice other people all the time then look down at my shirt etc and think man I really should get me a roller. lol
  9. Lots of chew toys and coffee for sleepless nights of whining/house breaking. Lots of phots and cuddles lol congrats!
  10. I love how dogs can talk to you without saying a word. It goes beyond loving this cuddly puppy, cause I love puppies lol. My girl is amazing though. We only get closer and she is 15months old. People who don't have dogs couldn't possibly know what it's like very much like having children lol. They are hard work at times but it all pays off with the love they give you and it's a unconditional love.
  11. She's gorgeous, congrats! I love xlarge babies.
  12. Thanks! I'll have a look at them. Puppy is only 2 weeks old right now, a gorgeous land seer. I will put up some photos . I am always here going through posts for info. Thanks Jess
  13. Hi, We are waiting for our newfie puppy. I'm looking to show (never shown either) our newfie and would like to crate him at night. The largest I can seem to find is for say a GSD or similar size. I know this isn't going to last long. I never crated my shepherd, so I don't even own a crate. So not much expierence in crating here. I have seen cages/crates for danes at shows, but where on earth did they get them? I also see people that do not crate their large breeds? Just wondering what my best option is here with crates and do I need one for shows? What does everyone else do? Thanks Jess
  14. I think the set up is great they have for therapy dogs. It's been a while back I watched a show where this ladys dog would start behaving differently right before she had a seizure. So now she uses the dog as a therapy dog. This dog may not qualify for everyone but for it's owner was definitely a treasure and could save her life. Pets can be very in tuned to their owners. Anyone who has loved a dog knows that. As for this lady registering her dog as a therapy dog, I say if she needs her dog with her I can't blame her!
  15. nahh you just basically jumped to conclusions and large dogs being more clingy, yes I said that was MY opinion, I did mention that. It's almost like you have that speech written down somewhere.
  16. Poodlefan, the issue here is not of lack of supervision. It's not a matter of the dog training us. It's not that he doesn't go in his crate everyday for short periods. I do not blame the dog OR myself. I do not think there is anything wrong with my puppy. I am talking about a puppy, not life or death so please chill out. He is getting training, I promise he won't be a lifetime of dog troubles for people like you to get so upset about. I've simply decided to not put him in the laundry or bathroom anymore cause I'm not even sure my partner has seen the damage behind the door just yet So when he needs to be left alone he goes in his crate, same time everyday usually has I have shchool runs. Twice a day actually! with a treat! Don't assume things. Don't assume that your advice is going to work for every family. He is a large breed puppy, and a retriever. They generally hate being left alone, I didn't get him with the intentions of leaving him hours at a time. He is considerably different to my shih tuz which is happy to sleep and be left alone, has been since she was a puppy. I don't think small breeds are as clingy as large breed dogs. That's just my opinion though, and from my own expierence with dogs. Can honestly say he's a very smart dog, and has learnt a lot and I believe that's from the time he's spent with us. I never got him with the intentions of him never having an accident. I didn't get him on a whim. I just simply wanted to know if he could be drinking water just because it's there, not because he needs it. He doesn't seem to fit the usual, after a play, after a sleep, etc Just thought I would ask, not get accused of being a bad puppy owner by the training nazi.
  17. We have a new flat coated retriever. He's 12weeks this week. I know he's still quite small, but he's definately not a tiny boy. I'm wondering if he's drinking too much water? He wees inside a lot, I can take him out, he goes, then comes inside in 5 mins wees again. I've read through the forums and most say, take them out every hour, after naps etc, and I do. This is way beyond anything I can keep up with though. I would love to leave him somewhere safe to play, and if he wee'd in the house it would not matter, but this little master is so head strong. He doesn't give up. He will literally bark for hours if he's left. (no, he's not a pet shop puppy, but was a spoiled puppy ) He's never gotten ok in the crate, or laundry on the tiles. It's not been for lack of trying to get him crate trained. Hes been here almost 2 weeks, and were all so tired, I couldn't keep the kids up trying this anymore. He is though in the crate when I go out. I'm never out that long, but I leave him barking and I come back to him barking. He's pretty much worked himself up to a frenzy by then. Since I was home during the day, he pretty much follows me around all day. Just this weeing thing is driving me mad. I literally can take him out, then think ok, now we can go put some laundry in, and I turn around and he's gone again. I'm using vinegar and he's not going back to the same spots. I've given up the crate at night, and night really isn't a problem. He sleeps beside the bed and he will sorta jump up and wake me when he wakes and I take him out, then back to bed. He really only goes out once at night now. Just during the day, I think with the clam outside and the water inside, he just wanders and drinks all day long. So I'm wondering, could he just possibly be drinking too much? It's not exactly hot in perth the past few days. Can I take his water up and give him a drink every hour then take him out? My partner and I haven't agreed too much on this, he seems to think I should take the water up and of course I've felt he should always have water there. My older dog just doesn't seem to drink that much or wee that much. other than all the normal puppy mischief he's wonderful. This definately isn't a issue of it's got to be fixed or he's gone, just some advice please.
  18. Ok, I'm wondering why it mattered what this guy called it? He was obviously enjoying himself, the dog was happy. Most people don't know everything about dogs. Most dog owners wouldn't have a clue about why their dog sits when they ask it to sit, but then what does it matter? I think it's more important to educate people in a simple way then trying to get technical. Might keep a lot more dogs from ending up in a shelter for behaviour problems. That almost sounds weird to say to someone, your dog has a prey drive, they don't want to please you. Sure you may just be right, but it's not really important.
