Temperament Differences Between Maltese And Shih Tzu
loveretrievers replied to Shakti's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have had two shih tzus, they are very affectionate. Love to play, very hardy little dogs. Both very cat like would sleep heaps and never had a problem with destroying the house. Though my Lucy had a thing for barbie dolls and was awesome at digging out of the yard. Lucy was also very hard to house train too, I think shecwas very jealous of the kids she would pee in their rooms. She had emotions like a person lol. Good and bad. She was very much my diog just put up with everyone else. I know nothing about Maltese lol Edited because of stupid iPad auto correct grrrrrr -
Most of them looked like staffy or amstaffy mixes. I don't believe there is a problem with american pit bull mixes in australia. Just mixes period and the stupid people that breed and buy them. They are the same people that don't train or socialize. Rant over...

Arghh.. Bought Chicken Frames...
loveretrievers replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
lol we did that once. Went to Lenards and asked for some chicken frames and the guy was like please take them all for 6 dollars. How could we say no!? There was about 40. We did squeeze them in but it was hellish for awhile lol. Haven't done it since. It's such a bargain though. -
Saw My First South African Boerboel Today!
loveretrievers replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in General Dog Discussion
I certainly hope that Australian breeders aren't breeding for this trait. Attacking without warning is not a desirable trait in any dog, especially since these are becoming more popular in suburbia. Remember the dogs in south africa feed off the fear of their owners and will attack because that is their job - if someone is on your property you will not mind your dogs having a go there , my ridgebacks were never trained to dislike strangers but if you put your hands through the gate into our yard they would have a go. I think they are lovely if raised correctly etc. A friend of mine was sitting on the floor petting a boerboel and it then turned and bit her in the face. I myself would not have one though as they are just not for me. My aunt had a dalmation that bit one of her friends on the face. This man needed over 200 stitches in his face. Can happen with any breed. -
I say leave them on the bed if you want. We don't sleep with the dogs but my husband gets itchy with too much pet hair and I can't imagine sleeping with two big dogs. Sigh they both sleep next to the bed and that's bad enough with the dog farts. Lucky I love them!

Saw My First South African Boerboel Today!
loveretrievers replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had to look them up I had never heard of them. I do agree they are gorgeous, but I really love mastiff breeds. -
I've had many breeders not answer my emails. Just need to call them up. There is a breeder in wa having puppies soon or may have a litter now. Google berense mountain dogs western Australia. This breeder is not on dogs online but does have a website. Can't remember their name right off hand.

Our gsd mix is mad about reticulation. Why?? she digs it up from the yard. We took her to the park last night and she found the retic there, she was trying to dig at the ground and rolled on the spot etc. Then sniffed her way to the retic station. Is it the smell of the water? pipes? Our last property didn't have bore water but this one does. The pipes are different here than the last property but still the same, she will dig it up and chew off the pipes. Does not seem to matter how much we get her out of the house or exercise. Retic hasn't been on at this property for a very long time but she still knows where and how to get to it. At a loss on how to get her to stop, she has to be outside during the day. Anyone else have a dog that's in love with the retic?

What Is Your Favourite Time Of Day With Your Dog/s?
loveretrievers replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can see why people come watch, he's gorgeous! -
I'm in love with wilbur, he's sooooooooooo cute.

My gsd mix could take it or leave it. She does not mind being brushed but she won't stay there for long. Hoping the puppy will be much better lol

I hate finding a hidden poo when you've taken them out all day and night lol very frustrating. Your not alone!

I don't believe they are going to ban any breeds completely and start destroying dogs. The major thing is no pit bull has been recorded in Australia as doing serious damage only pit bull types or mixes. How can they be sure what a dog is mixed with? They can't just go around destroying dogs for looking like a pit bull. The area where this family lived has a very high number of dangerous dogs but is also an industrial area where people keep dogs in there yards to prevent theft. They are not going to start taking all these animals and destroy them. The media like scaring the public and it's working. The only real way is getting tough on owners, charge them with murder. Hopefully that is put in place for this man.

I told my husband as soon as we picked him up he was a talker, I just didn't realize this much lol
-
Duke is a very whiney puppy. It's not really an issue just more interesting. I've never seen a puppy/ dog as vocal as him. He will whine when he wants something, doesn't like something or really loves something. The cat just makes him miserable cause he goes into places he can't reach lol He is a gsd, wondering if he will always be so talkative lol he settles well at night but does wake up and whine when he rolls over so can make for a sleepless night, always sounds like he is going to want to go out. am I the only one with a vocal puppy?

My dad told me once when I was little while standing in a pet store that he did not believe in buying animals. That always stuck with me. Weather it was in general or he meant pet stores I associate it with pet stores.
-
I also hate when people ask where I got my puppy, I don't mind telling friends etc I would tell people here and everyone will know at dog shows but I feel like they expect me to say a pet store and I'm tired of the pet store conversations, I try to stay away from them, not cause I like them, just tired of it.

Artemis Large Breed Puppy Food Guide
loveretrievers replied to blackpol's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My breeder told me if they were still hungry give them more as puppies, I don't know either, seems like our puppy could eat all the the time lol -
Lol I'm not a people person really, makes it hard when you have a puppy and everyone has something to say andva pat needed. I put up with it cause I need to socialize him. Really got to me the other day this girl looked in our German shepherds pups ear at his tattoonand said good he is desexed andvwalked off. I was thinking wtf??? Lol but I said nothing. I plan to show him but no point in saying anything, people then ask if he is on main register well duh, then look at me cause I have a female mix I'm going to breed. I just smile and keep going. Everyone has an opinion.

They have buy one get one free of the small bags at zoo products in Claremont.

We got our puppy just over a week ago. Gsd puppy. He was on natural balance dog food and lamb mince. He was pooing all the time and very runny. I changed him to chicken mince and vets all natural and wormed him. He's put on weight and poos have firmed up and now only about 2 day day. Does anyone here feed this to their puppies? I had always planned to give him mostly raw diet but also some dry food, I guess now I'm nervous about him getting enough nutrition from this mix. I also don't know want to upset his stomach again with a kibble. Should I add fish oil to his diet or will sardines be enough? His breeder also recommended glucosamine for his joints from 8 wks, what amount should he get and where to get it? Thanks Jess

They have them on ebay in different sizes and free shipping.

Not a good month to ask, with purchase price of puppy, crate, toys, food plus what I've bought our other dog it's well over 2000. lol OMG I don't tell my friends. With our older dog we probably spent about 100 a month and that would only be food. She never liked playing with dog toys. We feed raw and I find it's a lot cheaper. Puppy might up the cost for me cause he loves toys and my other dog never played with toys lol. Not to mention what I spent on the bird yesterday and I will make another trip to city farmers today for a couple things I forgot yesterday.
