  1. *sigh* Well that's a shame. I would've thought if it was a Cross Breed or Unregistered it should have been desexed anyway, and didn't think that would have been a hurdle. I wonder if it is a possiblity that could be pursued as a small ray of hope for some people who have Rescues or active participants in obedience and agility with their cross breeds. ANKC seem willing to allow Judges to contribute to the ID 'Standard' of what a Pitbull or its cross may be. Why can't they stand up for those that aren't, but some not quite experienced council worker might deem IS. Especially if they already are registered as an Associate with the ANKC.
  2. So, as I'm driving to work I'm still thinking about all this BSL and how the hell do you prove that your dog is not a Pitbull when it doesn't have registration papers or is a crossbreed. I've never had a dog registered with ANKC as an associate dog before, so I put it to you guys. Do they issue paperwork for these dogs stating their breed/cross breed? And if they do, would this be deemed acceptable by councils as proof of Breed? Would having an assessment by an ANKC judge qualified to judge Amstaffs etc, then a Stat Dec signed by the Judge, presented to a Vet (willing to id the dog and sign their name to it), be an acceptable proof of Breed?
  3. Well, I'm just speechless. I knew it was extreme prejudice, but I didn't realize it was THAT extreme. So you could have a dozen people on your side saying, we saw them mate, we saw her whelp, we saw them raised and we saw this person purchase this puppy, here are our sworn declarations...which in most circumstances would constitute adequate evidence of the facts there in... Along comes a council 'official'...with 5 minutes training, who probably doesn't know a dogs pad from a notebook. And your evidence isn't good enough. I would like to say more...but I'd just be really incoherent.
  4. What do they accept as proof of parentage? If you bought a cross breed from a backyard, would a stat dec signed by the 'breeder' be sufficient?
  5. Neither Dory nor the Cat play with toys on their own. The cat likes the rings from the milk bottle, pens and hair ties. Buy him a nice cat nip infused toy, or something with feathers dangling from it...meh... Dory, no interest at all. Unless you are going to play catch me if you can or tug. I'm actually envious of you guys who have dogs that play with toys.
  6. I use a harness and an old chain walking lead clipped to the childseat fastening point on the back sill, for Dory. I've found this works for us because she likes to chew the seat belts to get free. The harness helps stop her from getting tangled in the lead and the lead gives her the ability to use the back seat comfortably without her becoming a risk to us or herself. Plus, when the car is parked she likes to sit on the back shelf so she can watch everything. Thankgoodness she doesn't do it while we are moving. She tried it...once...until I braked a little too hard. ;)
  7. I'm actually never endingly AMAZED that a lot of pet owners are in complete denial that their pet may have arthritis or pain. They come in limping badly, stiff as heck and the owner say..."Oh, he's just a little bit slow. But I don't think he is in any pain". "He gets up a little bit stiff, hobbles around...but I think he is okay." "Here's done something to his paw and limping...but I don't think he is in pain". "He snaps when I try to touch him here....do you think he is in pain?" etc etc etc.... You could ask the right question...but sometimes people don't want to see and will be quite clever at rationalising it some how. Especially if they think it is going to cost them extra dollars for pain meds or supplements on an ongoing basis.
  8. Agree here too. Dory comes to work with me everyday. This week we had to fill a shift on Thursday, a day I do not usually work. Her behaviour right from when I got up to get ready was interesting. She was a little confused. I was very surprised that she didn't twig when I put my uniform on. It was only when we got to work that she realised. Then every Friday at 11.30am she starts to sook and whine....cos it is time to go home...Dory's version of TGIF. We don't feed her at a set time, and as a result she never begs for dinner. She will tell us when she wants it though and that time varies quite markedly.
  9. Got mine yesterday. Very Happy!! Daughter has already scoped the recipes too. :D
  10. I don't know if they feel guilty or not, but they sure know how to elicit guilt in US. Me: "Dory, you have to wait here". Dory: Ears down, Tail down, Head down, slinks off to the couch with 'sad' face. Me: *feeling totally guilty* Oh...alright, Come on. Dory: Happy, Happy, Happy Dance. Behaviour...Rewarded....
  11. Did the books end up costing more to produce? I'm happy to meet the shortfall also.
  12. Rottie? Very trainable, usually quiet and will only alert if there is something of concern.
  13. Prongs are also very good for people who may have impaired physical abilities and strong stubborn headed dogs. And before you go into...they shouldn't have got that dog if they couldn't hold it. The injury occured AFTER they had got the dog. Without the prong collar the dog would have had a very reduced lifestyle and many more problems from the lack of stimulation.
  14. Seek sponsorship from organisations with a vested interest in opposing breed bans? eg. Vets, Petshops, Interested Pet Owners, Delta Society...Government ( ). Raise enough funds you could conceivably run your own ad campaign.
  15. Is there going to be a little dog meet this Sunday? If so, is Dory allowed to come?
  16. Nothing like keeping the hysteria low key.
  17. In the back of my mind I was wondering what the ulterior motive was and felt that some of the questions were very misleading or calculated to get an answer of a specific nature. But I might be a bit paranoid.
  18. Okay....How come they don't identfy by using a novel approach. You know...TEMPERAMENT TESTING. Why even bother with identify 'dangerous dogs' by breed or ownership by certain population demographics. Because as we know...it's deed not breed. Has anyone ever approach pollies or councils with this approach to identification?
  19. Yes I am in one of these councils, can only register an entire dog if VCA registered Not saying that is a bad thing. But how does that work for BYB and Cross-Breeders and people who own and breed rare breeds that aren't currently recognised by the VCA? Or is there some kind of exemption for them? I find it intriguing.
  20. Or perhaps the warning came too quick for the brain to register and get you out the way? That would definately look like a "no warning" attack. I've been in this position before, it's like just as you think..."Oh Crap", You barely have time to dodge it and that's with you being aware of the dog in question. As a kid I got bitten by a neighbours dog for what appeared no reason. I had been in their yard heaps of times, but most of the time that was with one of the resident kids. This time I went out there (the days of outside toilets) on my own. No sooner had I stepped out the door than WHAMMO this dog nailed me on the shin. There was no posturing of the body, but it was sure giving me the evil eye, which I recognised only AFTER I had gotten bitten. I think that dog hated me, because it did seem to target me. After that I never went in that yard without one of the family members and even then that dog would stalk me with the evil eyes. It would quite literally stalk me, never growled or barked..just stalked. To everyone else it looked like it was just 'following me around'. After awhile, I just chose not to go there at all. I think it would be a very rare dog that wouldn't tell you you had overstepped their boundariess, it's just sometimes the signals can be very subtle and easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking at or for.
  21. No, I wouldn't. In order for me to reeeally dislike someone, as in..."I really don't like So and So". There would have to be an obvious clash of values. Even if they did tick all the right boxes. Too much leeway for things to get truly nasty if not everything went to plan. And I find it difficult to talk to people I truly dislike under the best of circumstances. Let alone if something bad was to happen.
  22. Bedtime. When I first invite Dory up, she snuggled up close and gives a quick lick and I give her head a rub and kiss on the nose followed by tummy rub. But the best bit is when she snuggles up against the small of my back and I can feel her body heat soothing my usually very sore back. Helps ease my back no end and is a very comforting feeling too.
  23. Dory suffers through it. We have to hand strip Most of her coat so I don't really blame her. She tolerates a bath, but would really rather not. Now. Cuddles and tummy rubs with smoochies, thats different.
