  1. Cool! We will come anyways, but will check with Boss about Dory participation.
  2. When Dory used to lick a lot we would tell her, gently, 'no licks' if she stopped she got a soothing, slow stroke on her head. If she ignored us we would get up and move away or push her away. She hardly licks now, unless invited or she is very relaxed and feeling smoogie. Which is bedtime before switching off the light. Most of our friends also got into the habit of telling her no licks and were gentle but firm. She was never yelled at, probably cos I would've torn them a new one! They would also walk away if she persisted. She got the hint. People pat and cuddle you longer when you don't lick. Dory lurvs her pats and cuddles.
  3. It does depend on what police station you go to. I've found some can be non receptive to some 'crimes' because they see it all the time and make pre-judgements. Even though they aren't meant to. Perhaps try a different station? Or call the 13 number, I've had great responses from them on various issues.
  4. Don't know where you are, but there is a leash length maximum here in Adelaide. I think it is no longer than a meter?
  5. Interesting discussion! For me.... In a fenced park I'd be peeved to have an aggro dog whether it is on or off lead. To me it invites trouble. Every dog in the place would be drawn to you. And whether we like it or not, most dogs ther have no recall. I'd also be wondering why you'd have such a dog there in the first place. In an unfenced park, I'd be peeved to get bombarded by rude dogs with zero recall or over enthusiastic greeting behaviour. Wouldn't be worried about on lead aggro dogs unless not well controlled or managed. I'd expect that other park users would respect the space around an on lead dog.
  6. Dory is so good. The worst thing she has eaten.... Cat Poo and Bees.
  7. Dory I always read that as Dory the dotted one - I thought you had a dalmation Bad reading skills me.-- I call my younger dog (real name Diesel) Weasels because he can fit through surprisingly small spaces for his size (he's long like a weasel), and he's just generally a bit sneaky and rascally. I have about 10 nicknames for each of my dogs though Poor little foxdog gets called 'rough butt' a lot because she has a stripe of coarse hair down her back - but I don't think that would make an appropriate username... That's okay. People often think she is a boy too. I love the names Fox and Weasel.
  8. Dory is my Dog...and she is very Doted (spoilt, ruined...LOVED) On. So... Dory The Doted One
  9. Better count us in! Keenly await time and place. It's a Sunday?
  10. Where abouts to you guys go? I would be interested. Not sure how interested Dory would be! Though she does chase rabbits given half a chance. And Bees. She loves Bees.
  11. Mostly. Dory's happy wags are usually worth it. Her constant desire to stop and pee on everything is not. (We won't even talk about the fact that she MUST bust at least one Nug, even if she has already been twice in the day). The other thing is I'm trying to get my fitness back up, so it is actually less that Dory bothers me and more the fact that I tire out about half way through and feel like I'm gonna die, then have to constantly give her the shuffle on because I want to get home before I collapse.
  12. I saw Dory on Petrescue...saw a scruffy little red dog with a very sweet face and thought she was really cute and therefore probably already taken. I checked up on her for about 2 weeks, umming and aahhing...when friends of mine told me to ring. I did so, thinking she was probably either taken or in the process of being taken. NOPE! Went and met her and then I just 'knew' she was going to be my dog. Leema told me all of Dory's down sides (as well as good!) and she ticked all my boxes. For both Good and Bad Habits. Plus she gave good cuddles to boot. :D She was the perfect thing for that time in my life and still is.
  13. Done also. Only trouble is for some questions....Once a Day....was still too few.
  14. I've been fronted twice by roos. Once while in the car, it was hopping down the centre of the road. I slowed down hoping it would move off the road, but it kept on down the road till it stopped turned and charged the car! It then finally veered off the road and hopped off into the bush. Second time was in the yard, I went out to have a quick squizz as it was a bit of a novelty for me. I didn't even get that close to it, when it reared up on it's hind legs. I was almost cr@pping myself because I wasn't sure what my best plan of retreat was going to be. Standstill or run. Considering that damn thing would've moved faster than me. Luckily it decided I wasn't that much of a threat afterall and it hopped the fence and disappeared.
  15. Dory loves to scoot her butt. She's wormed, had her anal glands checked with great regularity...we figure she just LOVES to scratch her butt by scooting across the floor. We have watched her start at the top of the yard....scooooooot all the way to the bottom, get up, walk back to the top of the yard and do it again. She also likes to do it with an audience....dog park is always a winner. And watching her on the mat is hilarious...she is very skilled at cornering.
  16. We are a Solo Dog household! We toss around the idea of a getting another dog, but I don't think this will be happening for a little while.
  17. I prefer girls. Mostly because I have found them to be a bit more attentive to me and not always looking around for fun and entertainment. Plus the Pee factor, less inclined to want to mark. That said. I've also had very attentive boy dogs, who were very chilled out lads and didn't give a hoot about other boy dogs or girl dogs. And I've had girl dogs (DORY!!!), who want to pee on everything. Thankfully she does not try this inside, but sometimes taking her for a walk can be a start/stop affair. But I also like the fact that you can give girl dogs tummy rubs without having to worry about wet willies.
  18. Yay! happy to hear that Earl is out of the woods and well on the way to being on the mend. Have a GREAT Holiday!! And I'm sure he will be so spoilt rotten while you are away, so there is no need to feel guilty.
  19. What everyone else has already said. I hope Earl pulls through it all like the Champ that he is. Hoping for some good news soon.
  20. Well, I wasn't thinking of shutting a barn door, but perhaps giving hope to those that are stuck with things as they are now. Owners of Rescues, etc You know. The responsible ones. A responsible owner of a 'suspect' (to council) breed, who wanted to save their dogs life, Would probably already have it desexed or would be willing to save its live at the expense of reproductive parts. And why shouldn't someone with a dog on Associate Register who has particpated in ANKC events, trained their dog etc. Not expect to get some kind of protection for their dog from an organisation that has been taking their money over the years?
