  1. We love Dory because.... She is a take anywhere kinda gal who is very dog savvy, she makes friends of almost everyone. She wraps people around her paws and is an expert at scamming treats and cuddles when it suits her. She is a great cuddler! I looooooooooe her Happy Wag. It always brings a smile of joy and love to my face. She is protective and quite devoted to me. She's rather cheeky. Whenever you want or need a bit of love she's ready to leap into your lap and give you more love than you thought you needed and often more than you wanted! She's always there....unless raiding the cat box (fortunately not too often).
  2. My unique house situation means I get to witness my neighbour's dog quite closely. When they first moved in he was a rather enthusiastic greeter when they came home. He still is when it's Miss 8, because she greets him in an excited fashion and then spurs him on. When Mum comes home...totally different story. I get the feeling she's just not that interested in the dog. She never speaks to him when she comes home, walks right past him there is no acknowledgement....even when he greets her in "super cute, here's my snuggy in my mouth, don't you love me...please...please...love me fashion". So when she comes home now he just looks up, maybe approaches with a tentative wag, but otherwise with no enthusiasm. He acknowledges her, but that is about it. I think it's kinda sad...his poor little dejected face. Great from an obedience perspective. But she doesn't even give him a pat, even when he is so good about his greeting now.
  3. I've come across quite a few people who thought that if they desexed their dog it would calm him down. You mention training to them, their eyes will glaze over because they think that desexing them should fix the problem up. ...not saying your wrong...
  4. I thought breeders had to do the change of ownership.
  5. Dory can be a Licker. Thankfully we have moderated it significantly from when we first got her. She was an Class A Nose Miner, when we first got her. Now she uses it to toy with people...the licking...not the nose mining. If I have 'abanadoned' her for any reason ie. left her at home with the Daughter while I did some errands, she licks like a mad thing. Or if I have gotten out of the car and then back in. She also licks when she wants her dinner and last cuddles for the night. I voted Yes, but not cuts and scratches. But we usually don't get a choice of where she licks us.
  6. I got mugged by a bus load of Japanese Tourists who wanted to touch, hold and take pictures of my daughter. She was a very blonde and blue eyed baby then. I was shocked when they tried to take her out of my arms. But I have a very strong grip. lol And to keep it on topic.....I told pictures fine....holding, "no no. No hold". They seemed ok with that. I had never experienced anything like it before and was quite baffled by it.
  7. Personally I would arrange my holidays so that I could be with my bitch every step of the way and have the funds available to accommodate my traveling expenses. I would not be comfortable leaving her with anyone at such a vulnerable occasion.
  8. Like!!!!!!! I'm disappointed if people don't want to pat my puppies. I want them to be able to deal with kinds of people in a kinds of situations. How can they if their whole environment is so strictly controlled??? Where is the fun and spontenaeity in that??? PLUS I want everyone to be as besotted with my puppy as I am.
  9. Do you guys who are groomers have consent forms signed by owners stipulating what is wanted? And a Clause to cover the unexpected? I worked at a clinic that did this because we got sick of the mind changers who would claim that's not what they wanted. Even though we would take the dog and client through an extensive check for mats and especially if they wanted, what they had last time.
  10. I was talking about greyhounds for a pet the other day. Didn't enter my head you could ask for a specific colour. I thought you'd have a choice of what is available and would go with the personality that would suit the household rather than a colour preference. Guess I'm a dill.
  11. I think Greys look impressive no matter the colour. I did see a very pale fawn colour that I thought was really lovely. And I'm not particularly partial to the blue as colours go. Personality tends to be the key for favourites. Dorys only come in one colour, and it's pretty popular. :D
  12. No cute puppy pics of Dory as she is a Rescue....however... Dory Then (not long after I got her) And Dory Now (I think she might be even more comfortable with us now)
  13. We like to let Dory think she has us trained. ;) When she gets what she wants it's usually after she's done something for me. Even just a little something like sit, beg, high 5. She does get cuddles when she 'asks' for them, but if I'm busy or not in the mood then she is rebuffed and she just wanders off till I'm ready. Otherwise she'd be a total pest 24/7.
  14. Friend of mine has had dogs, always outside dogs. I asked him why he bothered to have them, because he hardly went out there except a quick pat. He said we just had a different upbringing in belief about pets. Which isn't true. My parents aren't really pet orientated and haven't considered them as part of the family either I just told him I felt sorry for him, because he was sooooooooo missing out. (oh, and you can consciously move past your upbringing, if you chose to).
  15. Dory cuddles. Every morning, everyday. Which are valued all the more and indulged at every opportunity since her surgery to remove cancer. Cos we could have her for another 12 years or 12 months, we just don't know. We love Dory cuddles. They are the cuddliest and the snuggliest.
  16. I don't think a lot of people treat cats as serious pets. They are cute as kittens and worth love and attention, less so as adults especially those that have independent characters. They are also cheap and easy to replace should it get lost or broken. Many don't value cats. You see this by the fact that many do not worm, flea treat or vaccinate the cat. But they will with the dog. They only desex because they don't want to have to deal with kittens. (they're are many people that do, but I don't think they are the majority). Dogs, I think is a little bit more multi tiered in its problem. Many of the suggested options apply. I think education is a verylarge key to helping ease the problem. ETA....stupid phone with tiny buttons. Stupid big fat fingers.
  17. We had a NSW bred Cairn Terrier come into work today. I played with his coat for ages because it felt just like Dory's (who we quesstimate to be a cairn x staffy). He was only 4kg smaller than her, but coat texture was her, tail carriage was like her. I was in awe. Even had a similar expression. Not the same as Bruno's doppelgänger, but kinda cool for me. Glad the face fur wasn't the same, tho!
  18. Dory comes everywhere possible with me, including work. I did vote 1 - 3 hours tho. Because I try to create some separation from time to time, especially as Summer hots up and you just can't leave her in the car. She is starting to spend more time outside on her own.
  19. Sh-perks Maltease she shitzoos (I know...not a breed)
  20. Does anyone know where you can source these products in Australia? Waiora natural cell defense or z-naturals zeolites? The webpages I've been on seem way too convoluted for my simple brain. Hate starting on a page that says "Australia" then redirects to a US page then tells me I have to email to get an idea on how much it costs to ship...BAH....can't be fagged.
  21. LOL. I changed my life to suit the dog I have. She's not perfect, but we wouldn't change a thing because it's who she is. Dory...of unknown parentage... But quesstimations have her as a Cairn Terrier x Staffy. Affectionate Loyal Easygoing Adaptable Trainable Having character is important too. I love Rottweilers. Maybe at a future time.
  22. Get better soon Trevor! I hope he wasn't trying to do too much.
  23. Dory has been given the okay. Although we have to work out a restraint for her as she can't wear a collar just yet.
