  1. Crossed fingers for you Lhok. I'm sure your Missy is happy to know you'll have some puppy love again.
  2. He he. I run our puppy classes. Although told the boss that someone else can take over while I focus on my pup. Also FINALLY found a club to train with. Sooooo looking forward to it. Just need a puppy now! Although.....there are still toys and bowls and a collar..... Dory isn't into toys. Hope the puppy is, because I've seen a lot I want. (Note...I...want LOL)
  3. Yay...more puppies to come. :) I've been scouting out obedience clubs, its been quite interesting to see and meet so many other people who are also scouting out clubs for their future puppies. BEFORE they get their puppies.
  4. Pics? Congrats! I hope it will fly by for you. I'm waiting for first photos this weekend.
  5. This is done more often than you think. I know of many breeders who have left an option open for an undesexed bitch in a Pet home to come back and have a litter if the new owner wishes. Some even show dogs that live full time in family homes, in my opinion there isn't much difference between a well cared for house dog and a Show dog. At least I believe there shouldn't be. :) I am curious as to why a pet owner would agree to keep a dog under these conditions - is it very common? On the surface it would appear that it only benefits the breeder - what benefit to the pet owner. Unless they are getting the dog for free and the breeder is picking up all vet expenses etc its hard to understand why anyone would do it? Or someone with a genuine love for the breed and wants to help contribute in some way.
  6. Hi emery. I haven't got pics yet, the pups are only days old. You're teasing me with pics of yours! You have a beautiful dog there. For 6 mths his holding it very nicely together. :) I'd same I'm jealous, but it's more like impatient. 7 weeks is going to feel like an Age.
  7. We haz a puppy with our name on it!!! So all being well in 6 to 8 weeks there will be a puppy pic bonanza (providing the little ratbag will sit still...and Dory stops fussing with it). Poor cats, they don't know what is about to hit. We are getting a Rottie. Looking forward to doing obedience with a dog that doesn't chuck a tanty cos you asked it to do something.
  8. I socked a Housemates cat that tried to knick off with my bacon. (I must be food aggressive. ) My daughter socked a Seagull that tried to knick off with her fish and chips. (It's hereditary! ) Fun aside. We have a dog and cat household. One of the cats is a very growly feral when she has chicken neck or wing and Dory is annoying when there is any food around. Dory body blocks if it is low value or up high to keep competition away. If it's her food in her bowl, we all leave her alone. I can take food from her if I absolutely have to, but I don't try to just cause I can. I don't want it to escalate beyond what we have. We do approach her bowl, but only when we are putting some more good stuff in there for her. Dory used to be quite okay with people and other animals near her food bowl. I can't pinpoint when it all changed or even why. So even despite things seeming to be fine, things can change and change without any obvious (to us numpties) reason. I was surprised at the change and more than a little disappointed that my otherwise fine with food beastie, became a beast with food. But I didn't get too bent out of shape, we just changed and adapted. And she isn't allowed to get away with the behaviour...because we just don't bother her when she eats. And she's fed away from the cats. (Because the kitten is silly and doesn't understand the concept of personal space. ;) )
  9. I briefly toyed with calling a dog Bradley. It was an idea universally disliked by everyone bar me.
  10. Don't know much about that. Aren't they in full support of banning petshops from selling all animals, even goldfish? Or is that another group? I still don't know! They wouldn't answer my questions, just got all huffy and angry and stormed off. Their petition had nothing on it to indicate what was actually written within their 'Oscar's Law' proposal. Just that you supported Oscar's Law. Couldn't even tell me where I could go to find out what it actually entailed. They had websites, but I couldn't find a thing that looked like a piece of proposed legislation, just a whole lot of stuff about the evils of puppy farms. And nothing to differentiate between a puppy farm and a responsible breeder. They might have something now...I don't know, haven't looked any further. I've been warned off Oscar's law by many people I trust. I've decided not to touch it. I don't think I'll be going there either. It all seems a little too murky and 'foot in the door-ish' for more restrictive, draconian laws to 'slip' in there.

  12. Ooooh....it's a surprise Jules! I don't want to mozz myself, till I know for sure I have a puppy with my name on it. But I've met with a breeder, saw some weeeeeeeny puppies and got totally loved on by their adult dogs. We are madly crossing fingers and waiting impatiently. LOL. Bit excited. Haven't had a puppy for a lot of years. And can't wait to get back into some serious training/trialling.
  13. Then there was the time an Oscar's Law advocate accused me of being against them because I wanted to know what I was actually signing before I signed it. I just wanted to know what exactly was in their proposed legislation. I'm not supporting anything unless I know what the heck it is I'm putting my name to. Is that so bad?
  14. I was called all sorts of unsavoury things because I don't believe in mandatory de-sexing. Their point of view is if you didn't believe in mandatory de-sexing then you were part of the over population problem and contributed to animals being killed in pounds. Despite the fact that all our pets are de-sexed (or soon to be) recycled pets. Go Figure.
  15. Look at the FEET on Indie!!! Congrats on the new puppy. :) BTW.... I'm waiting to hear if I have a puppy. *fingers crossed*
  16. We've had tail wagging in dreams. Also running, howling, woofing, poking out of tongue and suckling. The best thing she does when she's asleep? Snuggling. :)
  17. Ok. If that is how you (meaning you) read it. I'm not going to get in an endless argument. I know what meant. Thank you to those who took it in the vein it was meant. A question. Not a judgement.
  18. Where does Socialising Dogs mean they have to meet every random stranger's dog while out walking? Dont impose your idea of socialising dogs on every stranger you meet in the street. Where did I say that? Where did I do that? I said I had no problem with what others do. I asked what others did. I said what I do. I said if it was you (not you in particular, just a general you) had the problem dog get out the way and don't abuse others. Where did I say, do as I do?
  19. why do they have to socilaize with strange dogs? the only other dogs mine even see are the ones at dog shows, the occasional greyhound at the slipping track or my daughter's dog. I avoid other dogs when out walking like the plague. Any new dog is going to be 'stranger' to your dog before they meet. Even if they are known to you. But I get what you mean. My question was a genuine one, not a bitchy, nit pick. Dory's very socialable, she loves meeting new dogs. She's also not over the top and happy to have a quick sniff then move on. I see so many paranoid owners walking their dogs. They almost flinch every time they see another dog. It's quite sad. Dogs need a social life too. I feel like I need to carry a sign that says, "Yes. She's friendly. Yes, they can say Hello. " not just so Dory can continue her socialization, but so other dogs can actually get some. How else can they learn? Not all dogs on walks are uncontrolled monsters. Trust me. Around where I live it's too far the other way. Dogs need a social life? They are dogs. All mine need to do is walk past other dogs without acting like a dick, and they do. ETA mine are not DA so don't assume every owner that likes to keep their dogs away from others have dogs with problems. I just want to keep mine that way. And I am very aware of how things would go down if my dogs did react to another's rudeness. Not very well and not in my dogs favour. Don't we tell people to SOCIALISE there dogs? I assumed (incorrectly it would seem), that that would include other dogs. (Unless your dog obviously doesn't enjoy it then it, then no it wouldn't).
  20. My DA dog is perfectly under control. I still cross the road because other dogs aren't, but it isn't always possible due to cars. I think you're assuming that DA dogs are lunging, snarly etc and that isn't the case. Mine walk next to me and look to me when they need direction. I'm not making that assumption at all. I'm aware that's not always the case because my own DA dogs were kept under firm control. If I had a DA dog, couldn't cross the road and the approaching dog was not under control I would ask the owner to wait. That said. I would've crossed the road long before when it was possible (eg busy roads), because if I have a DA dog I'm always watching ahead of me. Yep. I've been caught unawares too. Then I body block till I can get the hell out of there. That's been a rare occasion.
  21. Who are you responding to? On it's own that post doesnt make sense. Wasn't responding to a particular person because I have no problem with others points if view. It's a general discussion.
  22. I've had reactive dogs, I've had dogs attacked. I fully understand where everyone is coming from and the desire to vent when one comes across such situations. Despite my own experiences I still let Dory be sociable on walk under certain conditions. But only because she's so good and I'm watching what goes on. And only if its ok with the other dog/owner. Previous dogs I've owned have been DA. I respected others and crossed the road or kept my dogs focus firmly on me. I didn't get shitty. I got out of the way cos MY dog was the problem.
  23. PS. I'm curious! I don't let Dory race up to other dogs. What you do is fine by me. But if someone balled me out because Dory wasn't walking military next to me when I dared walk past them, I'd be pretty pissed and annoyed. If your dogs that bad with others or people are that scared. Cross the road. That's what I do.
