Interesting Read About Vets And Infectious Diseases
Dory the Doted One replied to tdierikx's topic in In The News
In fairness...which is not to say, rightness... Some Vets (especially if it is the business owner) can get REAL cranky with nursing staff if the phone isn't answered within three rings. They don't care if you are doing three things at once. -

Thanks all for liking my name pick. :D I like it cause she could be Willow the Wonder Dog, or Wicked Willow. A nice balance of Naughty and Nice. Plus it's nice and girly too. Malina, one of my previous dogs was very quiet and reserved when she was at the breeders home. She was quiet the first night when I took her home too. I was used to a more boisterous dog, so it was a bit different for me. BUT...LO...Did a good nights sleep transform the Sleeping Beauty!!!! Because the next morning I woke up to the Tasmanian Devil! She became a turbo dog, into everything. Took a long time to teach her calmness and stillness...then it was only the stillness of intense concentration waiting for the command to GO. -

15 Sleeps to Go. And I'm sure his name will magically materialize when you see him for the first time. I've had that happen numerous times and it always seems just right. I'm a little nervous that when my puppy gets here, she's not going to be a "Willow". Not ever named a puppy I've never met before. (And the first person that tries to nickname her "Willsy" is going to get one in the soft bits. ) -

Generally not. I did work with a couple who didn't, but they did take a lot of care in scrubbing...and they were old...oooooooolllllld school Vets. And very rural/back of beyond Vet experience. So not the norm. I know... -
Don't look. Don't see. LOL. Dory is 'fairly' non sheddy. So she needs to be stripped, which takes time. (Hides her guilty face) This season I've been really slack. Whipping a brush through a short, but shedding coat is loads easier and less stress. And while I'm not partial to a really doggy smell ie. dirty dog/wet dog/skin funky dog, 'dog' smell has long been a familiar smell for me. I love burying my nose into Dory's fur.

WELCOME, New Fellow, Will the Wait Ever End.......Prospective Puppy Parents. :D Melina you have no need to worry about bonding with your new baby. It will soon be like he never knew anyone else except you. I've had loads of adult dogs, at various ages and even puppies that were a little older when I got them. Couldn't have asked for a more loyal bunch. And Dory, who was older when I got her, while she is easily bought with food and will now prefer to stay home with my Daughter if I'm going out (major separation anxiety breakthrough there!!!). Is still VERY much my dog. She only chooses to stay with my daughter because she knows I will come back. Because that is her routine. She still follows me everywhere and if I'm home and go to my room and close the door she will sit by the door till I let her in. Even if my daughter calls her. She can stand to be away from me. She does ask to go outside and will stay out there for a few hours at a time. (More separation anxiety breakthrough!!! ) Still don't have an ETA on my puppy. -

I can attest to this! Never forget one dog, who as a puppy always ended up being picked up. Even when I made a concerted effort to pick up a different puppy, some how it was always that little bugger. Can't think of a time I didn't end up with the pup I wanted, even when I had last pick. Every time. :D -

LOL. And yet if you had asked Moose to hop inside, he probably would've looked at you like you were nuts. The dog crate at home gets a steam of visitors from Dory to the cats. Oscar (cat) was snuggled in it for most of the day today. Even Dory gets in there sometimes for the hell of it and the soft blankies. There are going to be out of joint noses soon. Still waiting to hear on an exact arrival day. -

LOL. My plan is not accidents. I've set my goal high. We have a tiny house and slate or wooden floor boards and a couple of very old, no attachment rugs. I have zero interest in TV these days and anticipate I shall be consumed with puppy time. Plus Rotts are super smart and Rottie girls even more super smarter. :D

I've never done it. Not unless the pup was sick. But then I wouldn't accept a sick pup. However, this is the first time I've not physically picked up my puppy. I was reading a socialization schedule that suggested taking your puppy to te vets for a checkup so that its first experience didn't involve trauma. But still involved contact, and the vet experience so that they associate the vet trip in a positive light. I'm lucky in that regard, I work in a clinic and I will be taking my puppy to work with me. I'm a bit excited about all the people she is going to meet. :) -

I just had a look on the Bunnings website...$28.80!!! Loads cheaper than some puppy pens. How sturdy is it? -

Our cats are strictly inside. Busy roads, native wildlife and daughter has been too traumatised in the past when her Dad had outdoor cats...if you know what I mean. I'll look at trays with lids, one of our cats is quite a big cat. He is only a tiny bit shorter than Dory. Tall and lanky, if you ignore the man boobs. So if they have them big enough for him that could be a solution. I'm thinking what will most likely end up happening is closed doors and cats that let us know when they need to go down the other end of the house. They are good for that! In winter we have the lounge area closed off from the rest of the house anyway. It's a cold house, with the lounge being the only room with heating. I had forgotten about cables. We don't have many and the ones we have we are either hidden or can be lifted up with no problems. Eeeee...talking about all this planning is making me excited. I'm getting a puppy, I'm getting a puppy, I'm getting a pup-peeeeeeee. -

I'll be getting a more accurate Time of Arrival on the weekend I hope. :) Still haven't puppy proofed the house yet. My biggest concern is going to be dealing with the cat tray issues. Cats around here have got it easy and Dory is only interested if there is something chewie in the trays. (which usually gets cleaned up quick after 3 yrs of nagging the teenager) I'm imagining a puppy is going to be interested in cat litter clean or used. *sigh* And the cats are lazy. I don't think they will be happy about having to jump barriers to get to trays. (I know I wouldn't!) I'm just going to muddle it all along and deal with problems asm(or if) they arise. Although now that I think of it...you can get nifty, do-hicky things that keep doors ajar, can't you? Big enough for cats...not so big enough for determined puppies. -
He's a bit handsome. Like...a LOT handsome. :D

I'm getting a Rottweiler. :D The wait is getting really hard the closer we get. There were moments when I thought it was all a dream and I got on with my day to day stuff. But after chatting with her Breeder during the week, I started getting excited and nervous all over again. It's been a long time since I've had a puppy. -

Hi Melina, What a wee, little thing he is! How do you resist the temptation of slipping him in a pocket? Happy Belated Birthday to you. I know what it feels like to be forgotten. I share a birthday with my Dad, and one year everyone said happy birthday to him, but I was completely forgotten. It was really disheartening. Even worse when some of them said, "Really? It's your birthday too? Oh, happy birthday." (said with no real feeling, and considering it has been my birthday on the same day as Dad's every year of my life how the hell do they forget? or not know!) We have the same wait. I see lots of black and tan pictures in the near future. :D -

Woohoo! Do you have any pics? ETA: are you planning to go to any show training classes? Sure am! Just not sure where or when they are. It's been a long time. Apparently the litter is so nice, they are having troubles picking which one they want to keep and which one I'll get. :D The only picture of have is when they were a couple of weeks old. Nothing recent. I trust them though, I've known them for awhile. Enough to say Hi and gasbag a bit. I'm supremely confident that I will have a very, very nice puppy. First and foremost I wanted temperament though. So everything else will be bonus. I haven't wanted to pester them too much...I don't even know what her pedigree name is. I'm eyeballing the Royal this year. She will be eligible for Baby Puppy Sweepstakes. :)
