To everyone who participates whereever and whenever in the photo forum, to those who encourage and to all who take the time out to help "newbies" learn new things. This is a friendly forum, it is fun to watch the creative ideas presented that make for compulsive viewing. Speaking of compulsions...what photographer truly ever puts down a camera when that next great shot may be just waiting to be taken! Lighten up fellas... its all good. Now if you really want to think about something concerning...tell me how to stop exploring lightroom/PS I need sleep!!!!

Thanks so much.

Now that I am mainly shooting in RAW I am on a learning "curve". When editing photos initially off the camera, then in PS. For a newbie, is there a set rule in the order one adjusts settings...does altering one setting mean you may have to revisit an earlier setting??? As for cropping...what is preferable a crop off the camera, or a post edit crop? Yes I know I need to do some courses...but watching all your wondeful work Im constantly saving for equipment/glass LOL

Awesome. Yeah for sleepins!

When is the best time to take photos outside? What are the "ideal" conditions...explain your "made to order" photo day

In my experience working as a vet nurse I had more to fear from those white fluffies than the larger breeds...personally any dog should not be left unattended with a child...and from my experience it seems the wrong people get the wrong breed-or certain breeds attract the wrong sorta people. Unfortunate but true legislation is a way of protecting some people from themselves or other people from other peoples careless ways. Either way duty of care rests in the induvidual and excessive reactions (either way) are ott. Btw I thought the picture was sweet... Disclaimer: Drawing on dogs should not be encouraged

Yes that would be interesting...poodle hair is definitely an infinite commodity. Any fluffy bits from my furkids sometimes gets pinched by the feathered locals...our neighbourhood nest are lined with it...they see it as a resource!

Confirmation Problem With Front Legs Update Post 23
redangel replied to mplsv's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I rescued a dobe puppy once that was so malnourished her main diet was pebbles from the driveway She knuckled over and her front legs were "bending". Having done vet nursing for some years I wouldnt consider anything short of getting an orthopedic specialist consult....I mean 14yrs is a long time to live with something that with the right advice may have been easily corrected. Specialists see the worst and so a single consultation would provide more insight and experience to offer a best fit solution in your situation...than say in general practice. This dobe ended up having splints on her front legs for a spell, followed by physio...at maturity you would have never known how she started -
He is fed chicken/vege mix with flax and grain, fish with vege and grain, occasional petloaf, roo mince with veges. Dry food is evo...avail as he pleases. Oh and the occasional roast beef/table food. He has a morning /evening walk with play activity (fetch) as exercise. He loves to jump and moves faster than any rabbit I know!

It is a toy poodle. I good coverage where you want to just feel the ribcage when you pass your hand over the dog is ok..but this dog is light....you can feel the dogs induvidual ribs when holding it and the lower backbone/hip joint are visibly protruding. The vet agrees he is light on but all is perfect physically. There is just no substance to this dog which is notable in other examples of the breed. He is fed morning/night with food avail all day...he eats like a bird also. Was hoping for a calorie high/low amount suggestion perhaps.

]My friend has a 12mth old entire male toy breed. He has a tendency to be food fussy, has excellent coat and is average active. When you pick him up he is light..like a a bird. He has no "body" his hip/backbone is clearly felt. How do you put weight on an otherwise heathy young dog? His owner is concerned of the perception people get when they give him a pat...she has tried some methods but to no avail..

As a newbie...can you please explain why.....

What Am I Looking At For Nikon Lens ?
redangel replied to redangel's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Thanks for the info.. so the nikon lens is non zoom, the tamron is a zoom. Is there a nikon equal with zoom? Any advantage to aim for this ability over the standard non zoom lens? Tamron Lenses...should I go there nikon ppl...or aim to stay with nikkor lenses? -
I am loving the nifty 50 shots in photo forum. I love the way it freezes action...those whippet shots are just amazing! What do I look for in a nikon equivelant? Reviews (for canon) ive seen say its good for full length portraits..in practice is this a preferred lens to say the 18-55vr. Whats the expected damage to the hip pocket?

The d lighting made the pic more workable thank you. Played with some curves and its better than before. So much tol earn....

Thank you for the ideas. I have a week or so off work I will try the tricks youve suggested....maybe I can teach this old dog new tricks. Being 14 she is not so easily distracted, but we will work with the camera bag and move up. Royall...Love the pic of your puppy herding....bet he doesnt run from lightening!
-
Just a question...my 14yr old dog has a fear of lightning. Ever since she saw the flash on my camera she has decided lightening is not of nature but of nikon. Thus even the sight of my camera bag is enough to make her flee in fright In your experience have you seen this behaviour before. Am I destined to never get a phot of my lovely old lady?

My birthday is next month and Im thinking of getting a new lens....yep strictly DYI in the present department. I have the d90with the kit lens 18-55 3.5-5.6 and the 55-200 1.4-5.6. Im a total newbie, like to take people/animal shots with a desire to take action pics of furkids having fun. So then where should I go? At one stage I was considering getting the 18-200 just because I dislike changing/carrying lenses. I guess I just want something im going to use to death, not sit in my camera bag. Any suggestions of settings to capture furkids at play is much appreciated, as to now all I have ever taken is stills.

I am a RAW convert....started out in neutral though. Have a d90 absolutely love it (though I need to learn much) cannot compare as its my first stepup from a point and shoot.
-
Yes... I am using a nikon d90. Duh! I never considered that.....sometimes I think too hard on some things. Thanks

Congratulations on the delivery of your new Nikon camera

When taking indoor shots (or in areas covered in) I find when using flash if my dog hasits face slightly turned from the camera I get one half of the dog's face in shadow. It really affects her expression as only half her face is well lit. Can I photoshop save such pictures or is it a lighting issue that I need attend to? I dont have a professional light kit. Any ideas? If someone would like to show me how it can be improved pm me and ill send a copy of the pic.

Can anyone explain to me the difference between lightroom and photoshop. Do these programs compliment each other orare they two seperate editing programs? How do they rate as editing programs? At present I use Paintshop Pro2 but I am considering purchasing another program. Thanks
