Cardiac Specialist Vet

Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre in Glen Waverley Melbourne at was very helpful to me re cardiac examination/testing. They were very comprehensive and informative, welcomed all enquiries/concerns that I had. -
Hi my old girl who is pushing 15 has been steadily losing her sight due to cataracts. Yesterday she lost her sight completely- 100% blind. She was fine in all other respects, responding to me, eating dinner and interacting with her doggy companion. This morning she has some vision back. Well at least she sees larger objects....like me LOL Her cataracts have progressed in the last few years. Has anyone had experience with old dogs going blind??? Is this the way I can expect her condition to progress??? How can I prepare her for the eventual? What experiences have you had coping with a vision impaired furkid? Having faced costly surgery and having to nurse her through intensive care a year ago I dont want to let something small like blindness rob her of life quality in the time we have left. I lost her mother aged 18 2 yrs ago.

Heres hoping for a favorable report. I have an oldie at home (14yrs) who was intensive care 2 weeks after a pyometra last year. The vet said I was lucky to pick it up as the signs werent so obvious (I was vet nursing bf kids) I even had to convince the vet to surgery as the tox/bloods came up neg. Once in surgery it was 'one of the worst he'd seen for a while". In retrospect she had been slowing down for a few weeks pre diagnosis. Her daily activities were more labored- I put it down to age/cold weather, as she has several fused vertebrae. Now back from surgery she is living life to the max....she is the loudest barker in the house- after no bark in 14yrs we thought she was mute. Its so nice to say will someone tell Mimi to SHUT UP! Her mum made 18 so we hope she will stay strong. All the best for the results. Get well Texas!

Ruger, I wasnt sure if the cheap lens supported af. Remember I am so a beginner! Rubiton I have attached an example of an action shot I took, on af/sport. I am very critical of focus, though I like this shot (grass flying off heels) For the rest there were some hit n miss. I see the shots done of playing dogs and want to know how they are achieved, they seem so clear. When originally shopping for camera-all the reps were pushing the cont.shot sports feature of canons. Am I restricted as a nikon owner/ or is there a technique I need to grasp? My only knowledge extends to panning/ predicting where the action will go.

I am still learning about lens...I understand the fstop ratings, but what can I expect re:glass. I know there is ed glass, G glass etc... all my lens are vr af. To get these in low fstop is $$$. I often man focus...so should I jump to a mf lens or wait for a splash of $$$ for af lens???

Do you line the crate with paper??? If so the puppy might be associating the paper with something ok to pee on. My youngest is nearly 4 mths and she also pee'd in her crate on any bedding...injury to insult if she could access the other dogs crates she'd pee on theirs too I must say it came to a stage where I didnt change her bedding as soon as pee'd on it. I did this for a 36hr period ...little Miss spoilt was like no clean bed!!!!! She stopped this habit from that moment, she learnt you pee on your bed you may get to sleep on it.

Now I know what the last view a mouse might see in this world . Great shots

Newfsie...........im just like...WOW! Its like as was said above....a different world! Nasa spends mega $$$ to look for signs on life and you take a pic of a foreign world...obviously inhabited by newfoundlands...well what other named breed would achieve such discovery!! Benji...lovely and im booking my ticket!!! Everyone is doing great shots. And many new people are contributing. Gotta love it

Hi ...as Clyde recommended I used fake turf. When I was crate training my puppy I used initially puppy pee pads adjacent to the crate, then used a wire underbed storage unit with artifical grass set on it to get her more confident leading to wee time outside when she developed more 'holding ' power!

May no one have to ever have to say goodbye to their dog under such circumstances, let alone 2. May your healing continue, yourheartfelt tributes read. They have left but they leave with you the joy of having had such special times. Blessings to your family.

I have learnt so much about editing since first joinng this forum.... Ive enjoyed watching everyone develop /share their techniques. What about having a 'to do tutorial thread"? I appreciate that the monthly challenge is great in developing skills but how about some short small challenges about a certain technique...eg oroton, how best to sharpen an image, curves etc..or maybe terms such as as found in editing programs? Anyway just an idea...sort of like a workshop.

Thanks for the imput. The older girl has been doing obedience for just over a year. She has passed the first 2 levels and is approaching off lead work. She has walked to and from school with the kids, I take her many places. She has not had a 'bad 'experience with people. She does enjoy other peoples company as long as they get past the initial pat. She is very confident on lead but loose in the house she is nervy when people visit.

I have two poodles. !5mths and 4 mths. I live a quiet life, we have only a handful of visitors. When people come to the house the older dog backs and charges around....she will not go up and greet people. All the barking and fuss...I crate her to bring me some peace... after a time she will approach guests, though warily. Today we went for our normal walk and encountered a teenager who was obviously fearful of dogs (ie she screamed) my older dog decided she was going to bark and fuss....I scolded her and walked away from the focus, she cowered and followed me gingerly. I am seeking to understand how to break this (she is very affectionate once she gets the initial pat) as I do not want this behaviour and definitely do not want to younger dog to pattern her. These are the 6 & 7th poodles I have owned- I have never had this problem, my other dogs would have cuddled anyone any time of day.
