  1. Just catching up on the thread, great news to hear the lil dog has lost some weight. Two things come to mind....little dogs cannot open fridges or prepare their meals......and human emotions cannot be attributed to dogs. It might shock the OP that in their vatied diet, my dogs have a fast day occasionally. In the wild dogs didnt eat regularly, again it is a human behaviour attributed to dogs. I wish the OP all the best. Hopefully this loss will be the start of many happy weigh ins.
  2. Thanks guys......I removed the broken filter, wrapped my baby and took it down to the manager of the camera shop. He cleaned the minute pieces of glass from the thread of the lens, and inspected the camera/mirror inside. Then we tested it out- it seems fine! No noise,no visible damage...he says the filter was the best insurance I had- it had don its job well. The prime lens having metal thread/body metal thread has obviously taken the brunt of the impact. it was nose down when I found it. He asked with a cheeky smile....will that be another filter youd be after!!!!!!!! Apparently he finds filters a hard sell- people budget for a camera and then think he is just milking them when he suggests filters- go figure. Anyway im feeling better after the painkiller and coffees. I cannot tell you how muchof a fright I got seeing my precious camera flying from my hands in slow motion-just awful. Anyway I am optimistic it is ok.
  3. Bitches can be exactly that. In past years I had a group of 6 bitches all living together, eating together off the same plate sharing the same space. However these bitches were originally three......each had a daughter which I kept and as they were born of the group were raised in the hierachy they were born in to. At one stage I tried to get a foster of the same breed into the group......fail. She fought, peed on beds guarded me..... eventually she fit in (closely supervised) but troubles began again when the alpha bitch died at 18. Aged 13 she decided she wanted to assume top rank......my troubles began again. Currently I have a 2yrold bitch and a 13mth old bitch, unrelated. The older girl is the alphadog but doesnt always act like an alpha- when this happens the younger bitch will assert herself at the opportunity. They have in the last 3 months settled down, they eat happily from the same plate alpha dog first, then younger dog second. The only spats threatened I have is when they are on the bed- position nearest me is prime spot. We have had one big spat (I awoke to 2 fighting dogs on top of me) but nowdays they have their spots and my dominance sees them respect eachother. I NEVER leave them together alone. They are crated seperately when I am at work. The kids are under strict instruction NOT to have them out together as they do not respect the kids authority (or lack of) and I am sure they would try to fight. In my opinion as the dogs need their behaviours looked at, as the head of the pack we need to look at our own behaviours as we might inadvertenly not have made our pack position clear or encouraged a challenge between the two bitches by our actions. I hope it all settles for you, it is upsetting to see such behaviours between 2 loved pets.
  4. Forgot about I Tokkie...... I is for "I really love my husband"
  5. Im sitting here in tears- I tripped over a cord and dropped my d90. It had my 50mm 1.4 on it. On inspection the hoya filter was cracked- visibly everthing else sems ok but I going to get it serviced and looked at because who knows what has happened. Depressed is a word for it-I feel like I have let my best friend down.

  11. My current dog looks soo much like a dog I owned for 18 yrs I sometimes call her by that dogs name. I feel ashamed but it happens.
  12. Worth a listen? Seems like im a night early tomorrow nights viewing. Sry everyone.
  13. If I get home and my dog is in the " lying on the back, eyes rolled four legs in air frozen position" I know somethings up...
  14. Ill add that we all do whatever we can to keep our dogs safe in the time of attack...desperate measures have to be taken to avoid things much worse- my fathers wife once threw their min poodle over a fence to avoid the jaws of a GSD intent on eating him. He was winded badly and was sore for a few days but this dog had killed before and the consequence could have been soo much worse. Hoping for a positive vet visit.
  15. OmG....Kirslin. I feel sick....poor Penny. My heart is aching for you right now... :D to you at this time. I live my fantasy of one day owning a whippet through your wonderful doggies. They have become like extended family members to me....I pray your Penny is fine.
  16. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=851444 There seems to be a bit of talk here about the 50d focus issues/ and in related topics on the forum....maybe you are not alone with issues????
  17. Sad ending for any dog. Granted it was mercifully quick. I hope the driver was ok (tragic and upsetting) and good on you for stopping. My mother once hit 5 dogs at once- all running from a hose held by a stupid owner whose dog was in season (and loose) Horrible, but thankfully mum took 4 of the dogs to the vet all of which survived
  18. Well I hope you get a good hearing. I am not a fan of the placement of the controls of the canon, I am happy with my nikons layout. I found focus frustrating on the 50d and I can only sympathise when youve spent the cash and not getting the function you require.
  19. What focus issue were you having- I found getting a good focus on her camera in auto very frustrating= ok in manual though. I put it down to being a nikon owner!
  20. I had some playtime with my friends canon...a d50. My camera is a d90 Nikon. I noticed her pre flash is the same as the unit flash- my Nikon has a seperate preflash. (Does that make sense?) Anyway I found it 'strobed' which I found annoying, and makes a crackly (like an electrical short) noise...is that normal????? It is her first canon camera.
  21. My issue is getting good moving dog shots in focus- I can get them crisp in the 50mm- but very hit n miss with the 200 lens...it dowsnt seem to have the same "zip". I am happy to appreciate that is me- but I thought the 2.8 would be a good option. Thank you for the replies. Interesting feedback on the 90mm...always good to listen to a view where there is no market bias!
  22. Ok then... I love the crispness of the 50 1.4 when taking action shots. I agree its a great lens. What I would love is the ability to have an ability to get crisp shots (some action) without getting too close to the subjects. As for macro...I was attracted to the Tamron 90mm 2.8. I wanted to have a good macro in hand for when I need a closer shot- I am currently looking at joining a camera group and so want to have a range of lens to play with. Cost is sort of an option- I guess like the 50mm 1.4 I want to get as much fun as possible without going into the 2k range. Which is another reason why I was looking at the tamron macro.
  23. Im not a judge of picking pointer puppies but NO.2 would have my name all over it!!!!!! I want a whippie....stamp stamp.........I want one now!!!!!!!....well one day anyway
