  1. Thanks for the explanation. I do have a remote for the camera..never even seen the light of day outside the box.... Ive always kept it there so my friends don't ask why I am not in the photos someones got to push the shutter! ( they know Im shocking at setting my clock radio alarm so timer is out!)
  2. My contribution for today...I liked the texture of the wood in this pic.
  3. I have always trusted my poodles, especially little Rosie. Today she is officially a chicken killer. Im shocked, but it goes to show you any breed is capable. Turn away now if you are fond of poultry. This is Rosie and her victim...silently she walks back after her successful kill See how she almost has empathy for her victim Here she is aware of our presence, must remember to stand downwind!!!!! She decides to move away from where we are, taking her catch with her She burys her chook prize for later All pack members help with the burial... Poor chooky
  4. I have been advised good practice is to use the 'mirror lock up' feature when doing macro shots....unfortunately the D90 does not have this feature. Any feedback on the importance of this feature...and perhaps the next model I should look towards with this feature when considering upgrade. Im having fun with my d90 & macro shots, but im looking for my next thing to save for. Ive got a year ahead of me now
  5. ok...Im in. My camera has been lonely of late.
  6. Since puppies I have taken my dog out on NYE and they get fussed and food treats as they watch the fireworks. Their tails wag and they look to the sky every NYE, they are more fussed by the kids blowing noisemakers.
  7. Ok...Im convinced...I will join the rebel class....count me in, (Luci & Rosie) Or maybe ill just play lens lotto! One photo a week...sounds like a plan....good training for joining the elite force of the 365 project in the future :)
  8. Congrats...now im not so lonely at the nikon club LOL. Looking forward to pics Carebear
  9. I love my d90. Yes you are right...it will auto focus af lenses. I like the usability of the d90.. the settings and such are well placed ergonomically. Ignore the hd movie ability: its a party trick thing...it is manual focus only and if you are serious about video you would buy a video camera. Sites like http://www.dpreview.com allow you to compare side by side the tech details of both cameras as well as reviews, maybe worth a look.
  10. Ok, here are my test shots....all done by me in such excitement I forgot to switch on the IS LOL The one bug that didnt bite me The tiniest snail (cos I couldnt find any!) Testing the bokeh Tiny bug...where are the big bugs when you looking for em????? Trying it as a portrait Sorry for the flood..I promise not to repost pics for a while LOL Ah loving Christmas!
  11. Was blessed by the Christmas spirit...now have me a Nikkor 105mm Lens. :p Out of the box, started snapping everything....then calmed down and discovered I had the image stabilization off Think ill have to invest in a wrist brace LOL. So all five shots I took yesterday were IS off but still happy with them for starters.
  12. I agree with the poster above, offer cash compensation to demonstrate is it not about one upmanship but that you desire the dogs to live with you. A cash payment now may offset anything more expensive in the future. I also agree to take the dogs asap...otherwise he could contend you 'abandoned' them...especially when you have no knowledge when the repairs to the new house will be done. Yes I agree for the dogs that they are best kept together. I hope all goes well and this is settled without too much argument.
  13. In a country where manslaughter plead on the killing of your new wife gets you only 18mths Id say this counts as a victory for those campaigning for tougher penalties for animal abuse. Judges comments were very accurate.
  14. Merry Christmas Troy. A wonderful year in DOL.
  15. Thanks food for thought here.... thanks Kirislin for the demo pics.
  16. Thanks for the offer Kirislin! Im not far from Knox. I have played with both (not side by side tho) and thus wanted a better understanding of them directly compared. Your answer and the ones before your post have helped me get this point of view. I cant get a 100mm macro...Nikon doesnt have one so I am stuck with the decidedly more expensive 105mm. I have played with my friends Canon 100mm and well though I loved it...im team Nikon here so deeper into my pocket I go....
  17. Thanks...I will be using it for macro & portraiture. I understood about the compression factor but when it comes down to it I just wanted in laymans terms that I am not doubling up (ie versatility wise) as I am trying to get a range of lenses that give me good choices should I join the camera group next year.
  18. Can someone explain to me of these 2 lens 50mm 1.4 and 105mm 2.8 What one can do what the other one cant? Trying to rationalise a purchase LOL to myself. Aside from the macro capabilities of the 105mm.
  19. Wow I now know how they got that saying 'seeing spots before your eyes".
  20. Thank you for the replies. LOL PC I learnt all about reflections taking some Christmas tree shots (glass balls reflective) for my Christmas cards this year! The idea would be to get an all over shot of the bike then specific angles, showing badging, wheels and instrumentation...thus a collage effect. Being vintage the bike is matt...not hi gloss like the lovely modern ones.
  21. As a favor to a friend I am going out to shoot piccys of a vintage motorbike. It is located in a storage where Id prefer not to change lenses...I have a 70-200, kit 18-55 and a 50mm prime....what should I go armed with? Thinking of making a collage. Would be grateful for input here, thanks.
