  1. Yes they should advertise. Thirty years ago if you wanted a purebred dog you went to the the Trading Post or the Sat Age. My family got poodles back then and I learned much from a local breeder who used to advertise her kennel via a sign on her property. Forward to today and poodles and the various cross breeders/byb breeders are in vogue. Papers are full of them. If regd breeders didnt advertise what hope has the public got in knowing about how to acquire a well bred poodle? PRA, patellas, myths (aka the 'teacup toy"), knowledge about genetic health testing... yes some people may still go and buy the $600 crossbred (some people will never be educated) but there needs to be an opportunity to stem the flow of people being unknowingly sucked in. Im constantly surprised by people who contemplate buying an overpriced pet shop "purebred" for $900 when if they knew the options they could make a much better choice. I think it is important to promote how to acquire a purebred and what support you should expect from the breeder.
  2. All in favor of humanely killing feral pests which pose a threat to the natural environment. I would believe the photo was taken to outline the effective training of a dog to track such pests. Emotively, the photo to me however is in bad taste : cats are still viewed as a companion animal and though this is deemed a feral animal dead it appears no different to a domestic pet and thus it makes it disturbing.... if he was hunting a strayed dog that was deemed feral Id feel the same.
  3. ..its obvious...its a dog...it might have a scissor bite...and if it gets near anything that tastes like chicken it most likely gets the dreadded "lockjaw" No doubting it ...its a long hair pitbull (bet you paid heaps its a rare color)
  4. My two enjoy a queen size bed...if im lucky they share :p They have foam beds in their crates.
  5. Havent vets in the past been associated with puppy farms????
  6. As on the nine msn website. This dog has battled cancer three times.here
  7. Saw Dr Harry on ch 7 Sunrise touting this new scheme. No link for the story yet, most likely later today.
  8. I had a Dobermann bitch who was a bit of a princess...she once pulled up really lame and I was so concerned I took her to work (vet nurse) and all indications on exam suggested a possible broken toe...x rays followed and showed the most perfect healthy foot you could hope to see. The diff diagnosis was bruising? It settled in a few days. She finally managed to get back on all fours. Then one day as I watched she she accidently, whilst eating stood on a piece of dry food, yep you guessed it 48 hrs of limping. Thankfully she grew out of this.
  9. I must say that the fact people who can run a profitable puppy farm (like that in qld) can do so with what it seems an implied tolerance form governing dog bodies who collect fees is disappointing. Does that mean code of ethics is there as a guideline and not a rule? Surely if such a blatant disregard for such rules goes unnoticed then how relevant is the governing body in seeing those rules are adhered to? I am in favor of governing dog bodies for dog breeders but I would like to think that such questionable breeders would be at best removed from membership/investigated. I think it is sad currently it seems that there is no follow up on such things, what hope have the public got in working out a reputable breeder if they claim membership to a governing dog body? Perhaps a new system needs to be established in which red flags would signal something is not right & warrants some investigation. A form of feedback, export review & public feedback.
  10. MY thoughts on this. When I got Luci we bonded straight off...she is my heart dog. Yes this sounds sweet but there are reasons behind this relationship. Notions of "bonding" are to me addressing a bigger problem when people put human emotion on dogs. Of course Luci bonded to me...she was the sole dog in the household...we did obedience class, socialisation lessons & included her in all our activities. Fast forward to when we got our second dog Rosie. We did not( as you describe) bond straight away. Primarily this was because Rosie identified with our first dog before she identified with us. Luci already knew how to behave as a member of the household...Rosies task was all the more harder as she had to not only learn as Luci had learned she had to develop a relationship with Luci as well. Factor in the fact that despite human expectations (flawed)...each dog (even if raised the same) is going to have a different personality. Cut the second dog some slack. The important thing is to as the responsible dog owner rise to the challenge having decided on a second dog. Make extra effort to realise the second dog needs extra involvement. Use solo time to discover where the dog needs development. Sometimes it is as easy as working out what pushes dog number 2's buttons, what it likes...why it is different from the first dog and embrace those differences. Or you could just sit back and say "we just didnt bond" and let it join the ranks of so many other dogs that are discarded for being unlikable for no other reason but of wrongly based human emotion. I enjoy having a multi dog household because of the experience of enjoying two canine personalities...both delightfully different

  12. That last shot (non sharpened) I see the grid squares clearly Kirislin! Looks like you have a translucent 5mm grid over the image....
  13. Awwwww that lizard is so cute kja :D ....my sillhouettes on the door usually have eight legs Like your door visitors much more! Cute capture.
  14. Ok catch up... Trying my hand at something different....picked up a pencil for the first time since High school. Bug I saw sitting in the head of a dandelion near my backdoor. I was actually trying to photograph a ladybird...but thought this curious bug was shot worthy! My daughter entered 2 shots in a photo comp I entered. Her first time....got a second! So pleased she is developing an interest in something mum does! Now she wants to get new camera (hers malfunctions alot)
  15. Very brave selfie there Huga! Love it. Annie I just love your Forrest............I think he is beautiful. (Yes hios nose did remind me also of a Borzoi)He is original! Slowly catching up with everyones pics...will post mine once i work out what week is which...been busy with doing baptism pics & shows.
  16. Socks. My Rosie loves socks. She is nicknamed Dobbie because she always has a sock either in her mouth or nearby. And she collects any objects as long as they are pink. I can understand the first facination, but not the second. Last Christmas she was given pink fluffy socks. You can imagine the shop assistant who served e face when she tried to tell me why these socks were so good...only to be told there were going to my dog!
  17. Thanks guys...I gained a third place in child portraiture in the comp with picture 2.
  18. A resident who has now been evicted from my house. He broke the rules by deciding to wander down lower than the top of the door frames. This is him sitting at eye level on the bathroom door frame. He kept raising his front legs every time I walked past (how unsociable!) so this lil eight leg visitor now lives outside again. CC I love your gecko, wish we got them down in Melbourne...they are much cuter than Huntsmens.
  19. Thanks for the replys so far. My take: I like the second one because of the eye contact factor. I like the lil ones ambition to be a driver. He is proud of himself! On first viewing I liked the first one but I admit to me it represents a defiant child, which riles me up a little (ie none of my kids would poke their tongue out) That being said it has a naughty cute factor. But thus far my concern would be if the naughtiness is so to distract from actually "liking" the photo eg... under critique.
  20. Love the pictures! So cute! ...you have very well behaved dogs...or you are very fast!!! My dogs would be off as soon as I took my hands off...leaving a soapy trail down the hallway and out the back door!
