There Are Benefits To Shopping In Country Towns :)
redangel replied to persephone's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Ahhhhh so the dog was looking after his potential crackling of the future. Very cute pics Pers. -
Thanks for the info: Im in the nikon demographic atm. This will give me something to play with. Interesting you are not the first person to say that. I always research/play/hire before I decide to purchase (cant afford to buy a lens that wont be used)
-
Thanks Huga for the review...I am aiming to purchase lenses when I can afford them to suit fx ( all in the dream that one day I will own an fx camera.)
-
I reallty would like a lens to do casual pics of friends at family get togethers..I have a 50mm 1.4 but i was thinking maybe a prime 35mm would be a better ticket. I really struggle with getting all faces in focus. Knowing its most likely technique I also want to take a group of four or more people without having to be too far back from them. Would love some help...examples would be nice. Currently saving for a 24-70mm but thought maybe a cheaper lens in the interim so I dont miss out on too many memories whilst I save!
-
Awesome pics as usual Huga. What did you upgrade from??? I was looking at the d700 as the d800 is way to megapixel rich, more than i think I need. Looking to move from dx to fx....is the difference noticable aside from the low iso benefits?

Inquest Into Death Of Ayen Chol To Examine Council Policies On Identif
redangel replied to tybrax's topic in In The News
The media may be focussed on the dog but thankfully, the Coroner will be focussed on Ayen Chol. Rest in peace little one. Agreed. As for the determination of breed in such an inquest ...focusing on breed and not deed is what the issue is for BSL..but for this inquest I hope that the focus is on the fact that a family has lost a child, a little girl her life and what reasoable steps need to be taken so this doesnt happen again to any other family. -
The loss of a great companion is very hard, only compounded when it is a result of a tragic accident. So sorry to hear of your loss. It appears both you and Mitzi have touched many hearts, she will be remembered by all of them. Remember her & the blessing she was ...rip Mitzi

Issue With New Toy Poodle
redangel replied to HugoDoogoEbblePebble's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would be training her to be left in a crate as it seems like she may have been used to this. Reason being is that I once purchased a toy poodle from a kennel that ran up to thirty dogs together and like your dog she was very freaked out when left to a big wide house all alone. I discovered this when on return from her maiden alone time I was confronted with diarrhea right through my house: the poor thing was terrified. By crate training I gave her a restricted space to be in and in some way it was her cave and gave her security. I also had to get her used to being left alone, first short periods building up to longer ones, ie 10 minutes to start with. I personally dont think leaving her outdoors is a wise thing, too many variable factors and noises. If she is really frightened and gets out of the yard she will most certainly end up perished. As she has been house raised is there a reason you want her to be an outdoor dog? Most toy poodles I believe are generally house dwelling...you have taken her from the security of a large pack, she is basically unsocialised and timid and you have put further stress on her by expecting her to be an outside dog. If it is due to soiling, I recommend again to consider crating her to develop some toileting training. Gradually with socialization, training and the confidence she develops she will come out of her shell a bit more. I agree a dog behaviorist is well worth pursuing here. -
An Interesting Article From Canada
redangel replied to Perry's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had never heard of crating until I joined DOL. I now have two crate trained dogs. Having owned dogs for over 35yrs I am much in favor of it. My dogs are with me free to roam when I am home, sleep on my bed with me. They are crated when lots of visitors are here, tradesman working or when I feel a disturbance to the house routine. It has definitely given me piece of mind safety wise. Luci has learnt to take her favorite bone and shut the crate door (like she is confined) so that my other dog Rosie doesnt disturb her! Each dog has put its favorite things in its crate..its like their own den. My dogs will often choose solitude in their crate if things get too busy in the main run of the house. Where kids are concerned my kids respect to leave the dogs alone when they go to their crates as this is their special place. It has been a great assistance having a crate trained dog for when through medical reasons the dog needs confinement, the dog is not as anxious as a dog used to free roam 100% of the time. -
I used to give my poodles pigs ears as a treat...they lasted about the same time as your boxer puppy. I now give them venision ears...much bigger, has a chunky knot base and lasts for at least 2 hrs. About the same price as pig ears.

When I took Luci to Obedience she would get the bad habit of sitting forward of me so she could look around the dog at my right more easily. I used to correct her and fell into the habit of going "excuse me"..result shed correct her pose. "Excuse me" is a word used here to let Luci know she needs to change a behavior. But when done in public it doesnt just work on Luci: I get people around me looking at each other wondering who did something wrong! I forget people listen to what im saying....Im only speaking to my dog.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I have lost a dog to this condition, so sudden, so quick. You are left blindsided. RIP Skoota

People Breeding Dogs With Papered Pets With 'prefix'
redangel replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agreed Asal. If people are looking to cash in on a breed or designer crossbreed...they look for the cheapest animal they can find that resembles the breed they are trying to farm, papers being irrelevant. That being said though, if one is not available I no doubt they will purchase a higher priced dog if it is the only option. A Limited registered one is as good as any...I dont necessarily think if it is not mains registered it means it will definitely not be bred from. Only those wanting to promote breed standard would respect what limited papers outline. I guess they see it (cost)as a temporary loss when they can in turn churn out pups of questionable breeding as they do no health testing...or if that doesnt work stud a dog out to other people doing the same. How as a breeder do you get to know a potential puppy buyer? You dont work that out in a single phone call or email. Its more than being able to afford a dog. Yes those two dogs look like poodles. The pups look cute Being cute doesnt really cut it in my opinion when you are looking to buy a companion for 15yrs. If thats how you go about getting a dog your really needing to reconsider doing some research. Do they have/carry pra? who knows. Do they have healthy mouths? who knows. Maybe be one of the dogs has a patella issue. Will you have support or comeback should your puppy get sick? I guess some breeds are harder to get...some have long waiting lists or breeders are reluctant to sell to certain prospective buyers for various reasons. Notably those breeds that are used for designer cross breeds. We do live in a world where instant gratification seems to be considered a right...I want..therefore I shall have.. Do the homework, make enquiries and learn about the breed. Attend shows. Just because a pup is limited register doesnt mean that automatically mean the rules change in selecting a placement. -
Id like to own: Standard Poodle, Bull Mastiff, Whippet, Iggy, oh and an imported toy poodle from the kennel of my choice.

When I first moved out of home i had a back landing some 6ft off the ground that looked over a steep incline. My dobe used to jump off this landing, hit the ground running and make it to the back fence to bark at ther crows in seconds flat.We did put a rail up, she cleared that too...occasionally she would use the stairs. One day a visitor let my very excited dobe out the back door (another bird) but was unaware my 3month old toy poodle was loose...she too followed the dobe out and before I knew it I reached the door only to catch a glimpse of my fluffy bub disappearing over the edge. I screamed, flew down the stairs relieved to see a fluffly pup happily covered in freshly cut grass...thankfully she had fallen into one of the lawnmower mans grass collection bags. She looked at me as to say ...what??????????!!! Congrats on having a rubber dog....scary moment Im sure.
