I once lost a much valued puppy through medical mismanagement....I followed it through with documentation and a post mortem. With these in hand and confronting the vet I did not pay the bill. All dealings were reasonable. Would I have another animal treated by the same vet...no. Would I condemn the veterinary profession because of his/her actions...no. All such cases are individual in nature and cannot be generalized. People are often free to judge that a vet didnt do a complete provision of service...but like in the case of the OP the vet did offer a more capable service (in way of a referral) path/workup & manpower in the form of a 24hr clinic ,which in the OP word was refused. On the other hand I have heard & seen people ask for "all to be done" to save their pet... sometimes in the face of a situation where the pet has died and the pathology/treatment bill has been drawn that they believe the vet has 'ripped them off". Apparently such costs are only considered payable when a pet survives its illness. Maybe communication in all the situations is the key...perhaps sometime in stressful situations decisions are not made with enough clarity and followup is required.

To condemn all vets because of one is hardly rational....Granted it seems like you were not treated with compassion by your description, but to decide that the WHOLE veterinary profession totally sickens you? Really???? One person doesn't truly reflect a whole profession now does it? I am sorry that you have a bad memory of Percys last moments....from experience most euthanasia's are much more peaceful (trust me Ive seen a few) I might add that sometimes the pet can pick up the apprehension & fear from its distressed owner, especially when in unfamiliar surroundings. To say your pet will never go to a vet is not only borne of emotive overload it is downright irresponsible. Good luck trying to treat the many conditions that may occur on your own knowledge alone! Sure it is not necessary to visit a vet for every itch or sneeze but lets face it thats like you saying you wouldnt visit a Dr for the rest of your life because you met a Dr once, didnt like him/her and on that decided the whole profession was bad. I personally couldnt condemn a loved companion a death in my arms because I think it would be preferable to medical intervention. I have been witness to some very peaceful euthanasias...and have witnessed some awful prolonged "natural" deaths (which were anything but peaceful) Maybe now is the time before your pet gets sick to visit some prospective clinics and meet under a less stressful situation and build up a bit of a relationship.... I hope you spoke to the breeder of the pup and let them know that the dog passed under unusual circumstances...seeing you purchased another maltese (you obviously love the breed)did you go back to the same breeder? Perhaps your breeder can recommend a vet???

The Strangest Thing Just Happened Here
redangel replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not really..I had a stalker (long story) and he kept on trying to get to windows & fusebox. So I cris crossed the frontyard with fishing wire connected to hollow tins/pots. The next night he got all caught up in the wire (invisible in the dark) the dogs went nuts and the neighbours next door were disturbed as well! No more! -
Great news!!!

I hope you find your beautiful boy soon....fireworks are distressing to dogs & their owners alike.

Yes maybe thats an idea. I know lots of ppl are committed to one day a week pic topics...but I think different ideas will expand how we think of things. It would be nice to see this up and running again...its easy to take a pic of something of choice but trying to keep within a subject/topic adds that bit of challenge. Maybe there isnt any interest other than us??

Does she eat homework: there will be quite a demand for the services of a dog with such skill!!

I shot taken outside my back door. I can fully sympathise with KumaAkita as i have been fighting a bout of pneumonia for a bit shy of a week now Camphor/Eucalyptus wraps have been my mainstay as I fight a fluidy chest...poor miss Rosie (who wont leave my side) has a permanent nose drip. Luci is much more reserved she visits me but looks at me from her bed as if to say I love you but... great shots ...love the bike shadow on the wall (oh and the leadlighting) bookwrangler.
