  1. Me too kiwioz....one owner of a beautiful Briard near kissed me!!! I think he was so over the "what cross is that game"
  2. When will people learn that dog ownership is a responsibility that requires them to adequately control, socialise and train their dogs to be well adjusted companion animals. Personally I would like to see people who refuse to acknowledge this and have had an animal who have attacked unprovoked be restricted from ownership/purchase of dogs unless stringent requirements are met.

    Fang

Sorry to hear you have lost your much loved Fang. There are no muzzles in heaven, may he be at peace now.
  4. Pixiemeg they are just lovely pics. Just love the one of the kids hanging over the fence. GapVic I adore your 40's feel photos. Awesome editing and composition! MonetnDiva That picture of Ruby is soooo smoochable! Evolving Nice headstudy of Quinn...is he related to your two? KJA Love puppy on rock, his expression looks a bit guarded as the water comes in LOL Did I read right that puppy might have a permanent hme coming up??? Huga there are no bounds to your imagination! Got to love lolas pose in that pic, very animated. Dwynwen I just love Ferris wheels! Rosie is away at the moment so Luci is slowly getting used to being the sole dog. Shes truly a velcro dog at the moment. She has stopped looking for Rosie but every once in a while she looks up at me ans if to ask "are you not concerned there's a dog missing???" Heartfelt
  5. Thank you for the replies. The dog was a pup purchased from me some 16yrs ago. He has suffered small strokes of late and is reaching the "time". Over his lifetime his owner and I have become very close friends. I was not only blessed with a very good owner but gained a wonderful friend as well. I have been there to help out when he has been unwell, have boarded him when his owner went overseas and I feel its only natural that I help at this time which I know can be very stressful. I shall be following up these suggestions.
  6. I have friends whose dog is nearing the end of his days. I have looked into pet cremation on their behalf...prices seem pretty well equal between companies. Can anyone guide me here who have used these services in Melbourne?
  7. If i have treats in my pocket and im chatting to another dog owner and the dog seems interested in my treats I would ask the owner first then hand the owner the treat to give their dog as I believe dogs should learn to take food from only the owners hand. That being said I have to fess up that at obedience school I was guilty of giving a treat sneakily to a fellow members dog because she was of the opinion it was vegetarian like she was. Ugh! Needless to say her dog and i became very good friends!
  8. Oh Tlc I didnt realise Cooper has had surgery. I wish him a speedy recovery. When my dogs are like what you described with that it usually means they have an upset tummy and that im going to have a methane outburst (or worse) very soon....frequent loos stops. Not that I mind..better out than in. My dogs have a similar reaction when they eat some types of fish & manage to steal a dim sim from the kids.
  9. Thanks for sharing your photographic adventure!
  10. I am totally freaked out by emus..my friends family has an emu farm which she has promised me a trip to to try and get me past my fears. Nice piccys of dinosaur birds :)

  12. LOL @ land sharks  The term in this house is "Jaws Warz"
  13. Dobecrazy why is it Dobe breeders see it as "preserving their breed standard"...do you know of other breed people feeling similar with their breeds?? Is is the odd Dobe breeder of a more general consensus amongst breeders of the breed? Are there any issues ringside with people who have non docked examples of the breed??
  14. All sorted Thank you
  15. When i see pictures like your new charge Anniek I feel sad that people would let a dog get into that state. My dogs think cruelty is having to go out onto wet grass to pee! I so hope he thrives and finds a loving home. Greyhounds are so easy to love. Amos has a blessing in you. Wow Flaves..growing fast!!! Interesting moon halo Kja...I love moon shots Dwynwen: Very powerful shot...we need to be grateful for the paradise we have. Love the shot of Nemo: I like the shot composition too. Evolving: How smoooochable is Pink! Lappie Dogfan your Joey is one very cheeky bird! Question: is he purple or blue (he looks blue on my screen)
  16. Well Easter has briought a bit of a chill to this house with colder weather in Melbourne. here Miss Luci is snuggled on my sons bed rugged in her housecoat. It always seems to get cooler when I clip my girls it seems Added pic: Yesterday I attended a baptism to do piccys: this lil well behaved one was waiting for his master to get baptised. I just love border collies..couldnt resist taking a quick piccy
  17. Having owned a two docked breeds (Dobes & Poodles) I am now getting used to the non docked appearance. I have also noted in the Dobermanns (correct me if I am wrong) that are still not impNZ and docked. Is this unusual? Would these dogs require addition certification?
  18. Awwwwwwwwww what a face! Love the slobber!!
  19. I have just spent a few hours cutting and trimming the coat of the lower life forms I live with commonly called poodles. They have just enjoyed a fish & vegetable mix for dinner. Currently these lower life forms are sitting beside me at the computer begging for some of the cheezels I am eating. Tonight they will most likely go to sleep on my bed. They enjoy many perks of being house dwelling dogs. Tomorrow they will probably go outside when i hang out the washing and find some bird poo to roll in. Yes they are highly regarded in the dog world as intelligent but lets face it they are dogs! I need not explain to the dog people why they roll in bird poo. Dont think my kids would be caught dead doing the same... No behaviorist would condone promoting a dog as a pseudo child. Quite frankly I dont see the OP as a person who cares to agree with any authority on a subject....they seem to hold themselves as a sum of all knowledge based on owning a dog for under a year and having lost it under questionable circumstances which frankly they created by deciding they knew best. The OP has made it clear that they are not affected by grief. Well personally I am......grief that a poor dog has been rescued into a situation where it seems should ill health befall it it will not be taken for treatment by a professional it so deserves. I pray that this dog doesnt suffer a cruciate or a fracture in its life or such.
  20. Love it..expression says it all!
  21. Great post Whippetsmum. I am blessed with a vet as good as yours. When I first started seeing him with my pets I had an older dog facing a poor prognosis. I discussed with him at length the options. He took all the time to listen and talk. Having worked in the veterinary field he encouraged me to seek a second opinion with my former employer. That nailed it for me...this guy was going to be my vet! Fast forward about 8yrs and I had my 9yr old dog critically sick after some life saving surgery. I was updated twice a day on her progress and given pretty much unrestricted access to her in clinic to nurse her & administer medications & such. ..Mon through to Sunday. All the staff were very supportive and helpful. Yes there are great clinics out there with awesome staff. I hope the OP finds the vet that suits his/her needs...more so for the new dogs sake than her own. I note that the OP didnt answer the question as to whether she purchased the new maltese from the same breeder as her first. Dare I suggest as she is still not over losing her first dog that it fits that the puppy was emotively purchased from a petshop window or byb. I would think given the history a breeder would be dubious as to whether the prospective owner was ready to handle a new addition. I hope that the OP hears something in these pages and reconsiders the stance on vets. Wise words have been shared here on the bad effects of treating dogs like pseudo childs, may she see why change is needed.
