Steve I have no idea what dogs were involved or if the conditions were sub standard....I was commenting on the article that said the person allegedly was running a puppy farm (it isnt proven)

Im so sorry to hear of your loss of Stevie. How totally shattering to have to say goodbye, my heart goers out to you & your family. Please take comfort in knowing that for her short life you did everything to enrich it with love & experiences she may have never had to opportunity to enjoy had she not found a carer in you.

:) Been following this thread & I am so pleased that the patients are making good progress. I do not live in a tick area but I can only imagine the stress of having these pesky things around all the time.

"Oscars Law" hasnt been adopted as far as I know...it is a proposed policy is it not? Unlikely that the owner has been charged under "Oscars law"

Thanks. More dental exercise will be encouraged. You have a puppy with lovely teeth (all there) and then teething starts....such an important development in puppy's life.

Keeping check on a toy breed puppy as it develops adult teeth as I have seen retained canines and I wanted to be attended to promptly should it arise. However, this puppy has thrown me a curve ball...retained four on the bottom, adult teeth just starting to erupt behind....never seen it before (unless you count a shark) pup is 5 mths of age. Am I being a bit too zealous at keeping watch? At what stage would you consider it "abnormal" and get the teeth out? Is there a risk to getting them removed..ie timing wise as to the developing teeth?

Would My Dog Have Rocks In His Stomach?
redangel replied to booge's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When I was nursing there was a whole litter of 3 mth old Dobermann pups with rickets that came to the clinic with distended stomachs. Yep full of stones/topping. Pups did pass the stones. Their compromised diet was what lead to the stone eating. Thankfully pups were surrendered & mum desexed. I adopted one of the worst affected pups, after months in casts & careful diet choices she lived to 14yrs of age. :) I would be vigilant if I saw/considered that my dog has eaten something abnormal as blockages can and do occur. -
I would be concerned about a foreign body in the mouth..has your friend checked carefully around the mouth & gums & the roof of the mouth (inc case something has bridged itself on the upper jaw) Must say Ive never seen a pup cry with teething..only me when they have chosen to chew on something I treasure. I would seek vet advise as others have recommended. Hope it goes well.

I have two kids and this weekend I went out and about for a look-see for Christmas gifts for them. After the shoe stores (LOL)I saw plenty of potential gifts for the kids & friends but came home with a nice new leash & some fancy collars for the dogs. Fail. No wonder my dogs greet me at the door to check out the shopping bags.

Love that clip! Alkhe...thats a priceless picture :)

Do they have kids? Some of the best colds and illnesses I caught from kids. Hope your relatives are up with their worming! Seriously if someone who is visiting has a genuine fear about dogs I will limit the dogs access by way of a gate to make them more comfortable, but if they simply dislike dogs...well the adage of "its my house" applies.

treasure hunt sounds fun...lots of scope..but all ideas sound like fun

High Liver Enzymes In Dogs
redangel replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just picked up a friends dog from the vet who had a high billirubin in current bloods & thus had ultrasounds done today. Liver looked overall even in ultrasound, though there were a few "gritty" looking areas the vet has put down to age. No obvious tumors. Has a fasting/fed blood tests as well...test results in a week or so. This dog has a history of pancreatitis which has been treated with a low fat diet,as liver diet is high protein the question is to control the fattiness....a drug is to prescribed post blood results...apologies I cant remember the name. This thread is very interesting. Thanks for the post. I am interested to see the results the OP is having with the new regime, I hope all goes well. -
Sorry to hear of your loss. He was indeed a special boy, lovely tribute.

Just beautiful Kirislin. I love what you have done. Last year I went to the watergardens up in the hills & I loved it immensely, had a lovely lunch among the lotus & lilies.

Puppy Sniffer - Santa's Little Helper Is Injured
redangel replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh thats awful news...I hope Puppy Sniffer is not in too much discomfort & the medicos on hand can help get her back to fixed asap. Such an unfortunate thing to happen with the silly season coming up, please send my best wishes. -
Yes one of my poodles had what seemed a simple skin lump removed when she was being desexed, she was about four years old. The vet thought on excision the lump looked unusual: yellow/grey in some spots, dense and the deeper tissue looked unexpected. Pathology results came back all margins good, complete and it was determined to be a haemangioma. From that point on I kept vigil on her skin & every year the vet examined her for anything unusual by feel....she lived to the ripe old age of 18 with little issue. No further lumps were ever found. Her sun exposure was not abnormally high (inside dog) but she was a cream/apricot color. I would be vigilant to keep check on any new lumps/bumps as you are already, seek vet advice on anything unusual. From my experience Id say I wouldnt be stressing yet...but every case is different. Are the lesions looking the same as the one before or is it possibly the start of a contact allergy..some other issue?

been trying to get a puppy shot on the move...but I either get a tail in frame (too late) or puppy insists on changing direction when seeing the camera or trying to run into the lens for a lick. Im loving all these shots though, gives me hope ;)
