  1. Congratulations! :p Early mornings, long drives and lots of coffee are part of the deal
  2. It's best to take your dog to a store to have the Doggles fitted. And then, if you're sneaky, you can buy that size online somewhere Jack doesn't wear his much, other than to amuse me. But here's a handy hint ... they cut down his peripheral vision a fair bit. So when I want to put drops in his ears, I pop the Doggles on (then click and treat), do the first ear (click and treat), second ear (click and treat), throw a squeaky toy (click and treat) then remove the Doggles with a final click and treat. And some more retrieval games with a squeaky toy. He seems to look forward to having his Doggles on now, rather than associating them with ear drops as I feared he would! ETA: The K9 Optix that indi_dog mentioned are made by Doggles too, but are more like a fashionable wrap-around pair of sunglasses so don't offer as much protection as the original Doggles.
  3. Rest easy, old girl. I'm so sorry for your loss, Allerzeit.
  4. Ooh, a warm shower and blow-dry sounds great. Can I come over, too? I'm so glad to hear that Ollie dog is still defying the odds and enjoying life to the full. Perhaps he's a little too full, given his gas problem I can picture that waggy tail, letting you all know that he's a fighter
  5. Poor, poor Bodie He sounded like a wonderful dog, and his owners are true angels for helping make his life a happy one despite his many fears. Rest in peace, Bodie. There is nothing to be afraid of.
  6. Thanks, PAX. Sounds like it's worth downloading from home tonight dogdude ... give her time. Although I gave up on teaching my husband to drive our manual well, and solved the problem by buying an automatic.
  7. I can't open that one at work because of the bandwidth that YouTube tends to chew up ... what's it about?
  8. Oh no I'm so sorry, Aine. Hugs to you and your sheps. Remember the happy times and the many goofy shepherd moments Rest in peace, Stryker.

    Daisy

... and another sweet soul will be waiting for us in doggy heaven. Keep working that mob, Daisy.
  10. Oh, what a wonderful way to go. Rest in peace, Thomas
  11. Rest in peace, sweet Page. Your angelic features are forever etched in our memories. Thinking of you, Ambervale, and of Page's family and everyone whose lives she touched.
  12. I'm sorry Abby had to say goodbye so soon, but she knew her time had come. Rest easy, sweet girl -- a credit to her breed
  13. I'm glad you added that parenthetical statement I was just thinking "but Jack has just turned seven and is still a silly goose!" As I type this, he's leaping around the backyard, flipping a two-week old remnant of a marrowbone in the air and chasing after it ;) At times, I wish I had adopted an "easy" dog for my first pet (other than family dogs). But having a stubborn boofhead of a dog who was initially dog-aggressive has taught me so much, and continues to do so. On Saturday, the dog who wouldn't go near water and wouldn't retrieve anything a year ago was splashing about at Molonglo Gorge, bringing his Aussie Dog thong back to me time after time. That's enough of a small victory to make me sit here and grin like a git ;) Now, to teach him to swim ...
  14. Thinking of Page and all those whose lives she has touched. Be strong, little angel.
  15. Thanks for the update, Ambervale. There is no doubt Page is a very special little girl, and Jet/Pete came into her life at the right time. If she is getting ready to make her journey, thank DoG Jet is right beside her :D
  16. I said we would give it a go next time, Vickie. By then Jack will hopefully understand that sheep are not for rounding up and then just chasing. He really doesn't know how to move them yet ... 'tis early days and he's an older boy (7yo) without too many smarts ;) But, yes, it will help with future dog(s)
  17. Hooray for Trim and Vickie My brother-in-law has a farm near Inverell and offered for Jack to help in the yards when they started shearing early in the New Year but I chickened out ... I think he would be more of a hindrance than a help! But when we eventually add a working dog to our doggie family (way down the track), we'll be up for some real sheepwork for sure. That's just great! ;)
  18. Rest in peace, "littlies". Banshee must have known Didi's time was coming, too. Amazing to be ready to go so close to one another. Run free, smoochers.
  19. Jarrah and Jonty are such gooood dogggs. But Ebony isn't taking the group stay seriously

    Lola

Ohhh, rest in peace little Lola. I hope your daughter takes it OK, Trish. It won't be easy, but with luck a puppy will choose her soon and help her heart heal
  23. Ollie, it's your Mum's birthday. Bounce back, little man!!!
  24. Welcome, Kate and Kiah. Sorry that your first posts are so upsetting here on DOL Kiah looks like a gorgeous old soul. Fingers and paws are crossed here in hope of good news. As others have said, any number of ailments can affect a dog at this age. Here's hoping it's treatable so Kiah's quality of life can continue
