  1. Yeah, I haven't had trouble, and like you say it's best to avoid the "bloated" packs But obviously others find it a bit dry
  2. Like some other BARF feeders here, it's Jack's "take-away" food if we go away for a long weekend. I freeze it and pop it in the esky for the trip. He loves it. Given what others have mentioned and experienced, I'd be cautious about feeding the full-size "balls" to smaller dogs without perhaps making the pieces smaller, and maybe adding some homemade stock or egg to moisten it.
  3. Karen put her up on the BADSA herding list for you, Muttly Here's hoping she generates some interest that translates into adoption.
  4. ;) I reckon the bloke who clicker-trained the squirrels in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory must be pretty good :D :D I haven't made it to any clicker-training seminars yet ... will keep my eyes peeled for suggestions here
  5. ^^ That's how I've been teaching Jack "what's in your eye", CTD. You must have posted that somewhere else, because I wouldn't have thought of it myself :D
  6. Good luck to all the DOL doggies and handlers!
  7. I found that it helped Jack immensely, in combination with social walks with ARFers and get-togethers with dogs he knew. When he came home from the pound at age 4, nearly three years ago (where does the time go? ) he was so protective of me on walks that we couldn't pass a driveway with a dog behind the gate without Jack barking. Through consistent training, establishing and enforcing the pack structure and non-threatening experiences, he improved greatly. Adding a clicker to our training regime was the next step to improvement. He still hates every husky and mal he sees on-sight, though. I have no idea why And he wasn't too keen on a white shepherd we saw at the Million Paws Walk, either. Our club didn't have the yellow-ribbon rule, but it was small enough that the instructors knew that Jack didn't like dogs in his face. Controlled greetings were fine. As you say, the smaller numbers in winter could work in your favour. But I'd be guided by the behaviourist first and foremost. Can they perhaps attend the first night with you, to assess the options? You want to set Micha up for success :D
  8. What a lovely lad Are there no Brittany breeders with a list of people looking to find a slightly older pup? He sounds brilliant.
  9. You didn't have the instructor that told you she "hates small white fluffies" some time ago, did you? I can't comment on whether you were unfairly treated, but certainly a dog who is being yanked around and having repeated instructions should lose points accordingly. Jack and I never got beyond Advanced, and our club was a lot more relaxed than yours, but we were only allowed to issue a command once. It sounds as though this particular instructor/assessor was allowing repeated instructions. That shouldn't be necessary at Advanced level.
  10. HI POOCHIE AND WELCOME TO DOL :D! WHY ARE WE SHOUTING? I've heard good things about the Furminator, but I now have a Mars Coat King thanks to Samadii here on DOL who was selling hers. And it's awesome for my dog's double coat. It really can depend on the breed and their fur type -- what sort of coat(s) are you thinking of using it on?
  11. You all sound a tad excited! Safe travels and clean runs to you all Take lots of pics, won't you?
  12. Good luck with this, Sally. It sounds like you're on the path to helping this dog know its place in your pack. Keep us posted. There's no quick fix, but the rewards of a good canine companion are great
  13. Ewww. Welcome back to Darwin, LM. It's horrid that these nasty creatures have spread so far so quickly ;) I hope Lilly is put off by the experience.
  14. There are a couple of Belgians here in the Canberra region doing herding at the Bungendore club Have fun with the test, CTD. From what I've heard, it's a breeze.
  15. If the delivery man is agreeable, it can't hurt to have him casually fling a liver treat in Barney's general direction when he arrives. Jack was like that with the man who came around to check our Electoral Roll listings, and with my neighbour's 21yo son. Not with anyone else so far ... Does the Lite 'N' Easy man wear a particular uniform -- a hat, noisy keys on his belt, long jacket that flaps about, does he wear a strong aftershave ... ? I'm clutching at straws here
  16. You sound like you're on top of all this, aniangel, and your knowledge will be a great comfort to Pix Pix, I'm sort of relieved that it doesn't sound as bad as it could be at this stage, and definitely pleased that Kaeleigh is happy within herself. Fingers crossed that the tumour grows about as well as my drought-stricken garden.
  17. Happy tears of fond memories, I hope
  18. I was cleaning up old files in my computer and found this pic, which I hope you don't mind me sharing. It's happy Rosie to a tee, taken in November 2004 by Nicole Hewitt for the ARF Christmas cards' photo shoot
  19. Flowers from your "DOL fiends"? I hope that gave you a giggle Thanks for sharing some more pics of Rosie. She was a special soul.
  20. Sending healing vibes for your girl, Pix. I hope the x-rays bring good news.
  21. to you all, BMR. Rest in peace, Rosie. May your sweet face shine down on us all :p
