I had no idea dogs could be allergic to chicken but you are the second person in two days to suspect it!!!! A lady at the dog park I go to has an 18 month old beagle and she has spent an absolute fortune on trying to find out what causes her dog's itchiness and dry and flaky skin (inlcuding sending samples to America). After seeing three specialists she took her off chicken and everything has cleared up - she has taken her off all medications and steroid injections. Good luck with it becandcharh - I hope it as simple as monitoring her diet for you too. Yup I was surprised too. I had thought beef was quite frequently the culprit. We havent tried her on that so it may also be a problem too. Process of elimination will tell us, Thanks again

Thanks guys. Vet did say that it would clear up quicker with anti-biotics. Just not something I want to unless necessary. Will finish this course though as I do value his judgement and will be sure take the dogs myself next time so I can drill them with all of my questions. Thanks for all of your input. On a good note, we have discovered that her allergies are food related and thankfully not something in our yard. That was going to be a PITA to figure out. She was strickly on roo and totally stopped itching. We just introduced only chicken to her diet and she is back itching agian like before.

Update on the little patient. Well vet says its not a bad case however he did give her 5 days worth of anti-biotics. I usually like to take the dogs to the vet as OH never asks the questions I would and I probably would have questioned if this was necessary. We changed vets so many times until I was happy with this guy and really feel the dogs are in good hands. Like myself I dont like taking antibiotics if I can do it the natural way. Thoughts?? You wouldnt know anything was wrong with her, she is boucing around like the usual nutbag she is. I looked for Manuka honey at a few supermarkets but as suspected they only had the cheap stuff.

Thanks PF and thanks for the heads up erny. Wow, must be magic honey!

you can ask at a pharmacy, or some bigger supermarkets, but a health food store would be helpful get one with a high UMF rating.... it will help kill any nasties, and soothe the throat :)It's not cheap :D Great, thanks for that. I'm a tight arse when it comes to me but the dogs get whatever they need straight away!

Great thanks Pers. Very helpful. We wanted to see the vet about allergies also so will still take her along as it wont hurt. Im a little bit of a worry wart Where do you get manuka honey from?

This morning Asha woke up making a honking noise and seemed to be trying to cough something up. She has been with OH all day and hasnt stopped. I have done a bit of reading and it sounds like kennel cough. She was at the dog park with a bunch of other dogs yesterday. Does it catch that quickly?? OH is taking her to the vet at 3 just to check her out. I just read that it lasts a few weeks and a lot of people dont take them to the vet as it just goes away?? On the phone the vet said they may need to put her on antibiotics. What are other dolers experiences? Thanks

I need to get the pooches one of these and was wondering where people have found them affordable and good quaility? I know I have seen them at places like Petstock but imagine they are a bit pricey there. Thought I could try the markets but thought there might be some good websites?? Thanks

Feedback Wanted Re Decent Food For Skin/allergies?
becandcharch replied to Loungefly's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Our rescue girl was quite itchy when we got her. Vet suggested Roo for 8 weeks and then if she stopped itching introduce other meats one at a time. All itching stopped and we have had her on only chicken for just 3 days and she has totally started itching again. -

I thought I would share some shots I have taken at the local park this weekend. The light yesterday was much better so you will see the difference from yesterday to todays shots. Asha is a freak jumper. We have wondered what she is X'ed with and I think it must be kangaroo They almost never actually catch the ball but in the last shot she finally got one!! Yesterday Tai Chi in the park.. Eek!! Shadow!! FAIL!!

What To Do About Chewing/eating Her Bed
becandcharch replied to becandcharch's topic in General Dog Discussion
She gets an hour every morning. She is totally exhausted by the end of it. Walks didnt seem to tire her enough so I power walk half and end at the park for the other. We play fetch or she plays with some of the other dogs. She needs to run to get worn out. We alternate so if its my husbands turn then he has just started taking her for runs. As I mentioned I dont ever leave them with bones they are always supervised. Will keep you posted -
What To Do About Chewing/eating Her Bed

THIS is a great idea. I could still get some old blankets and put them down as well. Thanks Astred :D tlc not really. I have caught her once chewing the corner of her bed first thing in the morning whilst she was waiting for us to get up (they sleep beside our bed) I think its just fun for her. She does like to find socks on the bedroom floor and carry them outside to destroy. Its one way to keep the house clean, just dont leave our crap lying around!
