I have seen many GSDs who aren't DA, and are very happy to play with my dogs. I have also seen potentially DA GSDs and I avoid them. I would be very worried if being DA was the breed standard for GSDs. And to not see DA as a problem seriously worries me. If my dogs were that reactive, they would always be muzzed in public to keep other people and animals safe. Yes, there are owners who don't understand leash laws. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't take responsibility for our own dogs. DA can be managed. It's not a reason to PTS. But it would be ignorant to assume that it's not a problem.

Watch this YouTube video: Dying man gets his last wish Very touching and such a lovely dog.

Always read the fine print. So maybe you can tie a dog to a pole but it's still an offence if it bites someone. And if the dog escaped the tether, that's still an offence too - ie unsecured dog. That note applies to section 16 which relates to dog attacks. Even if your dog is on leash (which is considered effective control) you will still be liable if your dog bites someone else. However, for the purposes of this Act, a tethered dog is considered under effective control.
-
Not according to the act it isn't. Leash has to be attached to dog and held by the owner or responsible person. Yes it is, accortding to section 13, subsection (5), subpara (f) of the Companion Animals Act which provides exclusions to the subsection (1) you just quoted: I've put the relevant section in bold.

From the website: Right!!! Time to get some stuffed toys!!! Or move to a deserted island!!! Must be written by someone who seriously hates dogs.

I have read plenty of posts here from people with a lot of experience with dogs who have had issues with dogs barking. It should be accepted that there are some dogs who are chronic barkers. With tougher laws regarding barking, debarking should also be made more accessible to poeple who can provide a notice from a dog trainer that the dog is a chronic barker. Also, councils jumping on dog owners without requiring proof of barking from the complainant will only result in harrassment of dog owners by dog haters. People who complain about dogs barking aren't always reasonable. There have been enough posts here about barking complaints during the night when the dogs were safely tucked inside!!

Looking For Thread About The Best Cars For Dogs

This My dogs love the Outback. I also have a Forrester but they don't like it as much as they like the Outback. It's more roomy, easier for the dogs to jump in and drives like a dream!!! -
Man And Gsd Attacked By 3 Apbts, Opens Fire
Odin-Genie replied to sandgrubber's topic in In The News
If the report is accurate then I think the GSD owner was justified in shooting the attacking dogs. Even if his life wasn't in danger, his dog's life certainly was. -
This one looks really good. Do they have air conditioning for really hot days?
-
The private enclosures/suites are quite expensive. I'll have to plan well in advance when I leave them there. But so far that's the only place I've found where I'll be comfortable leaving my dogs. They have their own room with a proper queen size or single bed and access to their own grassy courtyard. That's what they are used to at home
-
I have used it and both of my dogs loved it. The private suites are better (the gold and the platinum ones). In the other boarding areas two dogs share a kennel but three kennels share a courtyard that they have free access to. I wasn't comfortable with that arrangement for my dogs. I definitely don't want my dogs to have unsupervised all day access to four other strange dogs.

What Would Be The "right" Thing To Do?

Hi Leelaa17, I'm sorry to hear that Jenna got attacked. I would stay away from such crazies. If anyone asked me that question, I would get out of the dog park asap. It's not worth putting your dog in such a situation. -

Totally agree Corvus. No matter what psychology/conditioning has resulted in this behaviour, this staffy x is an aggressive dog who should not be allowed off leash where there are other dogs. -

That's right. You will rarely see a dog who seriously attacked another dog back in the same dog park. When my dog was attacked and I told the owners I'll report their dog to the council, these poeple stopped going to this dog park. However, I heard from some friends who were with me at the time that these owners are now frequenting another dog park Sometimes people just don't understand that their dog is not suitable for dog parks. -

JoeK you need to get your facts right if you think that a dog who growls and tells off another dog who gets into its face is fear aggressive. The husky's reaction was perfectly normal. Bitches growl and tell off their puppies all the times. Most dogs don't see it as aggression. Most dogs would understand that the other dog is telling them off and walk away. -

Complaining about aggressions in off leash dog parks? Stop taking your dogs to the dog park if it bothers you because guess what, it is unreasonable to expect others to be responsible. Complaining about off leash dogs rushing your dogs while they walk? Stop taking your dogs for a walk if it bothers you because guess what, it is unreasonable to expect others to be responsible. Complaining about roaming dogs breaking into your backyard and attacking your dogs. Get real. Stop keeping your dogs in the backyard since it is unreasonable to expect other owners to be responsible. That's where this kind of logic leads. Seriously, for those who complain about people reporting dog park incidents, imagine how many times the forum users go to the dog parks and how many dog fight topics are started. It won't even be 1%. There are as many topics about dogs getting attacked while on a walk as there are about dog parks. Should people stop walking their dogs? We should all be able to use dog parks and responsibly manage our dogs. And we should also take the responsibility of reporting those who bring in aggressive dogs. Most dogs at the dog parks are good tempered dogs, even if they are not perfectly trained. I don't mind them. My dogs don't mind them. There are only a few trouble dogs, and from the OPs report, this staffy x was one of them. And no, going to a dog park is not like driving without a seat belt because you've never had an accident. Going to a dog park is like driving every day, knowing full well that road accidents happen and you need to take reasonable care to ensure your safety. -

I think that is simplifying the situation and taking away the responsibility from the dog owners. People need to control their dogs. And dogs running up to other dogs and invading their space by bumping into them is not acceptable behaviour. I don't think the husky was at fault at all. Telling other dogs off by growling is normal dog behaviour. It usually doesn't result in a serious dog fight unless the instigator (the staff x in this instance) doesn't heed the warning and wants to have a fight. A dog that can seriously bite another dog with so little provocation is an aggressive dogs. This is not 'dogs will be dogs' behaviour!!! And this dog should not be off leash. I take my dogs to dog parks and watch all interaction closely. If an irresponsible owner or a badly behaved dog/strange dog approaches the park, I leave. But my dogs have had some great plays at the dog park with their buddies, including a staffy x who also comes to my home to play with them. So I won't blame the breed. -
Smh Article: Desperately Seeking A Little Dog Lost
Odin-Genie replied to Panto's topic in In The News
I would go to any extent to find my dogs if they were ever stolen and will not stop till they were found. Lovely story, but it also provides a very good reason not to leave dogs unattended in public places. I am also surprised that the police didn't help. Legally, dogs are property and if a person reports a stolen property the police is supposed to look into it. -
Mine usually get a bath every two weeks with a sulphate free dog shampoo, and get a sponge bath every time they return from the dog park. They are highly energetic dogs who like to wrestle with each other and sometime topple over in the backyard/parks. Since they sleep in my bedroom and sneak up on the bed for cuddles early in the mornings, they need to be clean all the time. But they have great shiny coats.

I instantly bonded with my elkhound the moment I first saw him with the rest of the litter at the breeder's place. He had to be our dog!!! And the bond grew stronger each day, each year, even though he was quite difficult and high maintenance as a puppy. And the bond has continued to grow. He is my very special dog. With my goldy, it took longer. I always cared for her when she came home as a puppy but the strong bond wasn't there. The bond really happened when she was around six months even though she was a comparatively low maintenance puppy. Now of course she is my little princess
-
I have been going for three years now and haven't seen a single aggressive incident. However, it does get crowded and you can't expect your dog to not be crowded by other dogs. However, no dog rushes at another dog (at least I haven't seen any). They just walk side by side or sit side by side. If your dog is likely to react to such a situation it is best not to take them. For me and my dogs the Million Paws Walk at Homebush has always been a fun time. All dogs are on lead at all times.

Good point. My GR climbed over my wooden fence last week. So I kept her at my sister's place while I got the entire fencing changed. I have now put 6 ft colour bond fencing and there is no way she can climb those.

I don't know, but I guess it could be possible. Maybe that combined with the plastic bowl ??? (I think you said something about that in your first post.) It needn't be just one thing. But one way to find out will be to take note how her nose goes the next time around you use the AC for a stretch. But of course you need to get her nose back to normal first anyway. Update on the nose. I've been putting paw paw cream and it's healing really well. The cracks are all gone. The skin is still rough but looks significantly better. Thank you so much for the advice.
