It could be... sounds young, but it's quite possible... if it gets any worse or goes on much longer, i'd be considering having it checked out. The vet could either give some pain meds or maybe take x-rays to check for arthritic change in the bones. My 7 year old kelpie Paige has arthritis in her foreleg, I know that her's is caused because she broke her leg as a youngster when a farm gate fell on her :D ETA she was 4ish when she started getting arthritis

My mother gives hers turkey necks. You can get them at Woolies in the pre packed meat section. Smooch gets half a one nightly (he's a midget kelpie though) So your's will probably be best with a full turkey neck :D

Serenity will vomit every single time she ingests the food she has the intolerance for. Paige however is intermittent, she will either vomit, get the runs or become a monster to do anything with (doesn't want to do anything, gets stroppy), the vet believes that these foods give her stomach pains and thats why she gets funny - she is the nicest dog ever if she's left on the food she can handle.

By the sounds of it I'd be giving it a trim, but not too much as the drain will likely have to be pulled out before the stitches are due out (thats our SOP anyway). The collar would be to stop him scratching his stitches out mostly

Hydralyte - Safe For Dogs?
Everythings Shiny replied to Michelleva's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You CAN give gatorade etc in a pinch - but I personally wouldn't give it to my pets. -
God only knows. Different vets have different methods. We have six vets at my practice, each does almost everything a different way from the others. I'd definitely be sussing it out, there should be some sticking out but... it's hard to say without actually seeing it. Most of the vets here would have a short bit hanging out so it would drain well, but not enough to get all caught up (maybe an inchish???)

I have two girls who can only eat certain brands... they both vomit on certain ones. Maybe the Nutro doesn't sit well in his belly????

depends on the surgeon, and what they are trying to actually achieve

Hydralyte - Safe For Dogs?

Most vets supply it, although I believe pet shops can order it in. I have seen it online on different pet supply websites. -
We use Fido's in most bath dogs at work, the only ones who don't get it are ones who would benefit best from aloveen or another oatmeal type shampoo

They must have changed it since I last got it (mind you that was years ago and that particular bag was rubbish!), the last time I got it, the biscuits were green and red in colour and thats what colour came out the back end! I'm looking at trying them on another brand I saw somewhere (can't for the life of me think of the name though) it is supposed to be colour and preservative free, so the big test for me will be if Paige and Serenity can keep it down, otherwise it's back to the Pal (and yes I know its full of 'bad stuff' as long as my vet says they are healthy I don't care! As long as they aren't vomiting their little bellies up, I'm happy!) We have a very well known German Shepard breeder who comes into work and I asked him this am what he feeds (explained about this thread). Hhe laughed his head off and told me he only feeds them Pedigree Pal - The brood girls all look beautiful everytime they come in so they are obviously going well on it, pups are all healthy as well. So if he's happy enough to use it on his 'expensive' dogs, I think it's good enough for my working dog pets hehe ETA- I think the brand is called Dogpro? Any one here used it?

I think what some people forget at times is that not everyone has the financial ability to feed a premium brand. When I first got my two kelpies D and Paige - I raised them on Pedigree and Supercoat. I was 13 when I got Paige and I had to pay for everything she needed. I would never have been able to afford the premium brands then, I can't afford them now either so my dogs are still on a "cheap" brand - As you can see in my signature, they both look great. Saying that I don't believe in raising a puppy or even giving an adult dog homebrand foods (ie woolies, coles etc) - they DEFINATELY are rubbish. A puppy should be raised on whatever he or she does well on, regardless of whether it's premium or not.

Compulsive Licking And Anti-anxiety Medication
Everythings Shiny replied to kwirky's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My mother has a dog who is a licky compulsive on his back leg, he only does it when no one is paying him any attention - our vet doesn't think behaviour modifying drugs would do anything to help him, but they may in your case. -
The internal stitches would be most likely be the fat and tissue layers, there should be stitches on the outside of the dog (although I think there is a technique to bring them under - haven't seen it done in years though) Hopefully it settles soon!

Sore On Neck/chest

Good to hear! -
I've seen this type of thing a few times through my work. It's most likely a combination of the site prep, clipper rash and possibly a reaction to sutures. A lot of practices do a three layer prep - 1st layer ususally a scrub - We use Chlorohex (done three times which helps remove any dirt etc), then use an alcohol prep (also done three times) and we finish with an iodine prep (I know of many clinics that don't, this is just our protocol) If it's a reaction to the sutures - What colour are they? - Normally we find reactions in Catgut sutures. Neocort should help numb the site a bit - it has a bit of local anaesthetic in it. You may need to ask your vet (which ever one you see) for a painkiller like Metacam to help him deal with the pain after surgery. Some dogs and cats will be depressed after surgery - they've been knocked out, had bits of their insides taken out, can feel bad for them for a while, but the do get better once their routine is back to normal. Whatever you do, do not let him lick that site - he'll only upset it more. Hopefully he starts feeling better soon :D

Pain Relief/anti Inflam

This is a question for your vet - they would know the best thing to use in her specific case :D I wouldn't know where to start on this one ;) -
How Much Protein For Large Breed Puppy?
Everythings Shiny replied to chloeshepherd's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sorry to disagree but none of those are premium quality foods. I wouldn't feed any one of those brands of food to my dogs. Too many grains and fillers. Hills and Eukanuba are premium brands (supercoat isn't I realised after I posted) -
What Size Greenies To Feed My Dog?
Everythings Shiny replied to nadz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Nekhbert - Paige only gets the treats rarely - And yes she is fussy, she is fussy with her dinner as well. I've had her for all of her life and she has ALWAYS been like this - I'm fairly sure I know why she is so fussy - when she was a puppy - the 'breeder' only gave the pups meat pies and other pastries as they we're being weaned - there was no kibble etc there. From the very beginning both her and her brother -which are both working dogs from different litters of pups - are fussy - don't think anyone can change that. her older brother only eat cooked mince and vegies, she will only eat Hills, Pedigree Pal, Supercoat or Chum. Paige will hold out - I was told by several 'experts' that if she wouldn't eat certain foods give her nothing else and she'd eat it when she was hungry (this is before getting serenity or diesal) She didn't eat for a week and was hospitalised due to the fact she was trying to work whilst not replenishing her energy etc from food. I will never ever put her through that again because some person believes they know whats best for MY dog. I have spoken with her vet regarding this and they are quite happy for her to continue like this - she is a happy healthy gorgeous girl who doesn't need to have anything about her changed. -
How Much Protein For Large Breed Puppy?

12 months definately if feeding dry food is the minimum I'd be feeding puppy food for. A lot of premium brands such as Hills, Eukanuba and I think Supercoat now have a large breed puppy range - might be worth looking into. Good luck with your little bundle of joy -
That sounds like sound advise - sounds like she's been through a lot poor girl. fingers crossed for you

What meds is Banshee on? It could be the meds causing it, may not be but if in doubt - might be worth a follow up call with the vet.
