Treatment For Ticks Only (not Fleas)
Everythings Shiny replied to Malamum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We have seen plenty of dogs with flea allergys that owners have never seen a flea on, it only takes one flea to set them off. If the comfortis doesn't do the trick, switch back. Personally, my dog Paige is bad for flea allergies and Comfortis seems to help. Frontline -I never saw a flea, but she was always scratching and pulling hair out. Comfortis kills any fleas so much faster. I use tick collars when going into tick country with my trio now. -
There Are Still Some Awesome Vets Around!
Everythings Shiny replied to noisymina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A lot of vets push the desexing because of BYB, We will send the owner a reminder letter if they are fine with it (We generally ask if they'd like a desexing reminder when they get a vaccination etc) Our clinic, we try to follow up as much as possible but with big practices it is really hard and time gets away from you. We send out condolense (sp?) cards when either a pet is PTS or we hear that they have died recently. It's good if clinics can follow up with patients It makes everyone feel more confident that they care -
Puppy's Muzzle Is Swollen

Could be the cause, hopefully the vet will be able to give you a definate answer -
So we have a few dog breeders that always buy drontal at work. One breeder has done a bit of a clinical trial with two litters of pups. He gave half of the pups in each litter the worming suspension, half of them the drontal small dog and pup tablets. The pups that had the tablets all shat out roundworms the next day. The other pups did not. Second dose (two weeks later) he gave them all the tablets. The ones who had been done previously with the suspension all shat out roundworms. Now the client has come in and asked about this as the tablets and suspension (which are both for puppies) contain a slightly different make up. So I was tasked with speaking to Bayer about why this was the case. Their answer is that the tablets are specifically made for Australian use only (no other country gets the exact same tablets) as we have roundworms that are a little more resiliant to their wormers. Apparently the worming suspension is their "Global" product. Even though they sell more of the suspension here than they do the tablets, they make more money off the tablets. Now what I don't understand is, why make/sell two puppy products in Australia that are different. If they made the tablets for Australian 'standards', couldn't they make the suspension like it too? We have now changed clinic policy that if a breeder asks for our recommendation, we recommend the tablets, it does work out a little dearer, but at least it gets rid of all the worms, unlike the syrup had been. Has anyone else seen/heard this before? I was a little surprised at the outcome (yes I know it wasn't a scientific experiment but it does raise questions when it is in TWO litters, not one) This particular breeder is going to do some more 'trials' over the next few months and let us know how he goes

Horse Found Stabbed, Scalped In Paddock

I feel sick to my stomach. I think when I get home I'll get my boys and give them a big hug each. I'd hate to think of anyone doing that to them -
This is disgusting. How can anyone do this to an animal completely baffles me. RIP Slade

If that dog was presented here, we would recommend starve for 24 hours then try with chicken and rice. There is a lot of gastro going around atm. I know you are wanting to put weight on her, but this maybe the quickest solution.

If a vet can't save ANY rait bait poisonings, I'd be worried about their competency in treating it. We give a very high dosage of Vit K and normally an injection of it before they leave. We have lost 1 in 18 months, that was due to the owner leaving it too long and brought it in when it was bleed so badly there was nothing to be done I wouldn't be staying with that vet unless they had a better track record with this

I do the exact same thing! Also, most premium foods have sizing on their websites (as Nekhbet said for Royal Canin)

For anyone who really stresses about their pets, we always recommend what aussie lover suggested. It does make the procedure dearer, but can help their recovery. You would also need to find out if your vet has done a Tubal ligation before, I know none of my boss's have (but we are out in the country, might be why), just to make sure they have experience with that before hand

That is terribly scary. Even though it attacked the people, I hope the bullet killed it quickly

Piperspal I got an older Kelpie desexed, I had a pre-anaesthetic profile done on him and he was fine. If you were to get him done, I would suggest getting the blood test to make sure there is nothing hiding there to cause any problems. My boy isn't any different and his prostate was quite enlarged when it was removed, I think I made the right choice getting him done, now don't have to worry about much with him

Poll: Most Popular Dog Food?
Everythings Shiny replied to Heidii's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed a mixture of Hills, Supercoat, Pedigree Pal and Chum (one dog in particular loves her chum, only thing the brat will eat lately *sigh*) -
The length makes sense, but the nurse doesn't, she should have said that from the begining lol

How can people do this to defenceless animals. I'm glad people are offering this poor dog a new home

OMG how disgusting are some people. How would they like it if that was done to them. Some people are sick mongrels -
Maybe get one of them to take him in for you then.... at least then you'll know he's okay
