  1. Back in 07, most of our property was under water from the flooding. SES came to evacuate us, luckily they also helped evac the pets. They didn't want to grab my pet ducks however as 'they can swim' but I got severely hysterical and as I had a fractured arm, was in casts, bandages and slings, they relented very quickly, as I started scurrying around in their pen to get them out. Luckily our last bit of dry land never went under, and the water even started receeding, but the SES kept trying to move us. We moved our horses onto the float (that was a fight and a half with 2 half broken in babies and a show horse who decided that he wasn't going on for the first time ever!) and sent them up onto the corner near our house. Cows were tied up to trucks (no cattle trucks were available or able to get through) and all our prize breeding budgies were in cages on the neighbours tip truck. I'm glad I shouldn't have to go through that for a fair while (previous flood here was in 1955, so I should in theory have another 50 years lmao)
  2. My last kelpie, Tiny, saved my backside many a times. She stopped me stepping on snakes (in long grass in our pastures etc), from been bitten by a few aggressive dogs and she has also stopped both myself and one of my ponies from hitting rabbit holes.
  3. I'd be seeing a vet as it's quite possible it will get worse even with antibiotics if it doesn't come out.
  4. Foreign body surgeries are always interesting. I've seen toys, socks, undies, lollipop and paddlepod sticks etc. Always different lol
  5. My bf is a highway patrol cowboy, he confirms it is law since july that dogs must be restrained.
  6. Aloveen or Fido's here, depending on what i'm using it for.
  7. I'm smooch's daughter. Definitely sounds like FCE. Depending on severity he may make a full recovery, or not. Definitely get to a vet asap. Good luck!
  8. Video Here Was on msn today when this link came up. Does anyone know anything about this?
  9. I had a terrible incident where the neighbours dog got into my yard and killed my ducks. They retrieved their dog, but left my babies there and didn't tell us
  10. My Smokey Kelpies are always picked on for looking 'old'. It really annoys me as my youngest girl is only 2! The other thing that gets up my nose is people telling me my dogs are 'fawn' kelpies. THEY AREN'T! I have one fawn cross smokey that has the more fawn colouring, but the other two are definitely smokeys. Because they're colouring is so rare, some rude people call them rat dogs :D
  11. Tempus Fugit - Most of those kids want to do that. Hell I used to do that. Most of the kids on those calves are country kids wanting to be professional bull riders when they grow up. At least kids at rodeo events are made to wear helmets with the cage thingy on the front and have professional rodeo clowns there to help them and protect them.
  12. Wasn't it fortunate that your boy only had to undergo blood tests for you to find out the initial diagnosis was incorrect. Maybe if he'd had to undergo something more radical, you might want some answers as well. I still want answers, don't worry. D was days away from starting chemo as no operation could save him if it was what was initially diagnosed. If your able to, find out which lab it was sent to and do some checking around to see if there was other complaints about their results. Might be a way to see if something is going on there. ETA - Hopefully everything is going to be alright in the end
  13. Mila's Mum - I had a similar scare when my boy D got incredibly sick. I rushed him to my work and we ran every test under the sun and two lots of lab tests said he has severe lymphoma and another blood cancer (having a mind blank atm of the name). I then had to make the decision of whether to start treatment, or let him go. My boss was not convinced that was the cause, so he asked for more tests. All came back fine, just mild anemia, we were all stumped, so we sent more bloods, and again came back clear. Do I blame anyone? No, do we know what happened? Another big no. Either way, everyone in the veterinary industry are human, mistakes will happen and I think people need to remember that.
  14. Florinef- states for human use only by the tga I have seen lots of dogs prescribed this, I am not aware that its banned???
  15. Not to me personally, but has happened to a client of ours. ETA - I had a one sided fight that would have ended up with the non fighter dead as well, if we hadn't stepped in.
  16. Nothing but a pointless post of no help to OP what so ever! and that Is according to who??? You!...... But off course half a dozen examples of the breed Is enough for you make such a harsh judgment on them! an ENTIRE breed!! I find Tapferhund's comments regarding AmBulls inflammatory. So do I, I may not be there biggest fan, but I would never generalise like that. It's like saying all German people are Nazi's, or some other rubbish. I have seen so many nasty dogs in almost every breed of dog throughout my career. I had fostered a cattle dog x pointer who ended up almost killing one of my dogs months after we took her on. Dogs are unpredictable, as a people. I think the safest thing with these two dogs is, seperate [PERMANENTLY] and see a behavioralist. A GOOD behaviouralist will be able to give you a good idea.
  17. I only use Proheart injection. It's so easy and with my oldest kelpie, its one less tablet she has to be given.
  18. I don't think popantel does hookworms (but I may be wrong) as a lot of greyhound trainers around here get hookshots if them worm with popantel? As I said I could very well be wrong, but that is what I have been told.
  19. Agreed with previous posters. We would never recommend to fly a dog with the runs. I'd be talking to the vet to get something to bind him up a little.
  20. For me I find they work. The other pro for comfortis is thats its water fast cuz it's ingested rather than a top spot
