How did Kamal recommend you fix your SFE Pax????
-
Got any suggestions to help stop it again? She was doing so well on articles until last weekend when it all fell apart. I just did a really short session with 2 leathers and a couple of cans on the lounge room floor and she was using her nose most of the time but still did some grabbing. I tried to remove the cans but she resorted back to snatching immediately. Hopefully she remembers what she's supposed to do soon! Are you saying anything for correct or incorrect article? Did you verbally indicate the correct article when you initially taught SD? How did you teach SD??

Seita, any improvement???

Sounds like a very unconfident dog in SD!!! It happens when you start trialling in UD...as Ptolomy has said, something always goes in UD, you fix it, then something else goes I would set her up for success to get her confidence back. Do your SD in a very familiar place and have a party when she gets one article correct. I would do that AFTER I've worked on fixing the picking up of the articles. Just work on picking up one leather, one wood and one metal. Pick up, hold confidently with no mouthing. Do the 2 food game or throw the article out, send her and if she grabs it, whip out your tuggy and let her run in and play...don't worry if she drops the article..you have marked the behaviour you want...a firm pick up. Then vary when you pull out your tuggy...straight away for the pickup, 2 steps in after the pick up etc. Get this going and you'll find she'll get more confident doing SD.

Hey Debazzled whats the chances of conning Caffy into doing UDX with her feral red Splutter ;)

Do you have any rewards in your right hand?? Maybe you need to reward her heavily from left hand while she is in a static position and then reward for a few steps at a time?? Can you heel in a tight left circle? No treats in the right hand. Treats are in the left hand. Tried having them in my mouth, but I am a vego so that was a tad unpleasant! The things we do! Haven't done any tight circles as she is a pup. she did do a quite nice figure of 8 today in class though. She goes wide though and looks at your face but not in the fig8?? I'd still start left circles then ..do them wide and gradually tighten them and keep rewarding when she is in correct position.

Thanks Ptolomy..a great partner to have...the rules are simple, Alex does the weavers and seesaw and Scoota does the other contacts...that's our strategy!!

I would love to have come over for the Melbourne Royal this year BUT the accommodation costs go from $155 per night to $295 per night at show time which just makes it unaffordable add to this flights, car hire, dog airfare, food and entries :D and I could think of 100 other ways to spend $1500 Well, make sure you win our Royal and you'll be rolling in dough

Did you try this??? QUOTE (ness @ 24th May 2010 - 11:42 AM) * UD training/trialling issue which I'd like some thoughts on - issue is seekback - not the finding the article but the presenting the article. At both trials on the weekend Ness came in with the seekback and stood. On Saturday she stood off to one side but close enough to a front that she didn't fail. Sunday she stood at heel. She didn't go around behind me just came in and sort of did a flip finish to end up at heel (well she never even actually came into front embarrass.gif ). She has never pulled it at training so I am lost as to how to go about resolving it. Any ideas?? The SB present was a weak area for Alex. I obviously hadn't rewarded the present enough as I used to click at differing distances and throw food or toy behind me as in the 2 food game. Got great speed on the SB search and return though laugh.gif He ended up running past me in trials eek1.gif So I just tossed his article a short distance and rewarded the present bigtime...that might be all I did in 1 session...and then I made sure I rewarded the finish also. I also intoduced jackpotting lining him up for the box...not actually doing the box but lining up for it. So I built on rewarding him as I went along ..get the picture...one reward led to another. For example at training..Do SB, reward present...he is now anticipating another reward as we head to where line up for the box...line him up..jackpot...end of session. Another thing you should question if she is standing looking at you...do you wait her out to present in training if she stands??? Personally, I wouldn't.

I think Ptolomy knows all about doing UD and Open in one trial...and winning both 'fess up ptolomy

I do like to have a “give” command on the dumbell etc. I want my dog holding on tight to their dumbbell while my hands reach down to it…no mouth opening in anticipation but a nice tight hold until I say “give”. It’s very easy for dumbbells, articles to get dropped as you reach down to take it from the dog. I’ll also proof it by reaching down and pulling my hands back or tapping the dumbbell or just holding both sides of the bell until I give them permission to give it to me. I’ll also reach down but pat the dog’s head instead. Given all the retrieves in Open and UD, it's just one reason why I'm pretty fussy about a "give" command :D

good idea I tried Sequence 1 late yesterday. I found it much harder. the run from the tunnel to the bottom jump at the other end is a killer. LOL, no AF to catch up will help you there . I did video it, but it's really too dark to see (and it was a mess anyway ). I am hoping that my angles are tougher than on the video, I'm pretty sure the spacing is tighter. I'm going to try to measure it out properly today, run it again & hope I don't suck as much . Trim kept checking in as she was unsure...and Shine just did what she thought . I tried Seq2...not as pretty as your girls. I found 12 to 13 tricky and tried it several ways.

Beautiful work RS and Millie

Something to try - ask Mason for a hand touch and reward him with the tug. You then up the number of hand touches before rewarding him. Why do this - because you can take hand touches into an obedience ring and by pairing it with the tug he will expect that at some stage he will be rewarded with his favourite toy. OH and speaking from experience - I ordered this you beaut tug with rabbit fur from clean run. I showed it to Blaize and she went ballistic over it. A few minutes later the phone rang so I took the call outside, came back in 5 minutes later to find the tug in many many pieces! So don't leave it laying around. Just did the hand touches and rewarded with tug, he seemed keen! Woo hoo!!!

Yes, can vouch for a handtouch in the ring. Works great with Snazzy..I paired it with a tug and with food.

Very nice Vickie...your girls knew exactly where they were going on those turns:thumbsup: Think I might try Seq2 with my guys tomorrow...might use an AF though, will give me a chance to catch up to Snazzy

The OC dog got a ripper score ..197! Great work with Scoota..he looked awesome out there I think Snazzy wonders what he'll be doing next..he saw the ring ropes and no agility gear..but he turned on a really nice round..I was really pleased with him :p

Oh bedazzled you never mentioned that in the email!!! Congratulations

Ah, we all know Trim is brilliant but I think that special bond between you and her shows itself in a special way
