  1. You forget Blaize's DOR and having trialled her I can tell you it is a ripper And yes, her heelwork is brilliant.
  2. I'm sure she would if you asked. Even better if you had some agility trials to coincide
  3. Great news for Ptolomy and Deb in the obedience and the other WA girls, Nic and Sandra got 1st and 3rd in JDM, 1st and 2nd in ADM and 2nd in ADO with their shelties ;) WA had a good weekend...so far ..Top Open Dog to go :D
  4. Well done Ness. See? My presence was not required
  5. So you won't keep putting things off now?? See, Ptolomy ain't the only nagger
  6. How good is that?? Snazzy is feeling a bit special too...he doesn't like to be outdone
  7. Alex had a few coats stuck in his crate when he flew back from Adelaide:-)
  8. I did!! I hear more congrats are in order for you and Deb! What a weekend you 2 have had! Well done
  9. Don't be embarrassed...just enjoy it We all learn from each other and I enjoyed our training sessions More to come I hope.
  10. I'm thinking you took the right red dog....not many can claim a 200 in Open and a UD win ;)
  11. I trained it same as Ptolomy. My boy anticipates my hand about to touch his toes but you get the idea.
  12. Every dog is different and there are a multitude ways of teaching heeling..I like the hand targeting that I have seen but I’ve never tried it. For a food crazy dog, I’d use food pots and start with them on me. Then I’d progress to putting them on the ground for duration work and also hiding them in spots where my dog hasn’t seen me put them. I would leave my dog in the house..go outside and hide small food pot on sheds or in trees and ask for differing times of heelwork and then jackpot to any food pot that I had hidden. Half the fun was asking the dog “where is your jackpot”!! That is an easy way to start off heelwork after you have highly rewarded the dog in position. Rubystar I think you’ll get a happy dog using that method.
  13. Duration Heelwork has a few stages and stopping food if you haven’t reached that stage would be a no no in my books. I would keep food on you for several sessions then mix it up with rewarding from lots of sources as ness suggested. I would go out while my boy was inside and hide his breakfast in a different spot everyday…I would also alternate with using very small SEALED containers on ME. Just be creative…you can hide small containers in your pocket, bra, even down your pants. There is no set rules on where and when you reward but you must reward…you must reward!! As Sue said to me…imagine taking a picture of what you like..that is when you reward…you will know.
  14. Have you decided where yet......nothing like the car park of a major shopping centre, or the beach - can just imagine setting the box up just on watersedge, then we have next to the duck pond - that should tip them over the edge Well, I have done DOR with Alex with me standing on the river's edge...and yes, he did drop before being sent flying into the river
  15. hey, you had your weekend last weekend...we're having ours soon, lots of fun we'll be having
  16. yes thank you Caffy - nothing like throwing an I-Squeak through the UD ring as I send Scoota to the box and then sending Alex to get it when I tell Moo which jump to go over. You can't beat this sort of distraction work. I actually didn't realise it was an i-squeak you were using - no wonder he was sooooo tempted. We are cheap to rent for distractions Ptolomy Can't wait for our obedience weekend...watch out..I have some doozies planned
  17. I-squeaks are GREAT!! Good for training, great for keeping 2 social Labs' attention on you in a crowded park! ....and good for distraction work
  18. I'm not sure where the fast Alex came from...he sure had something up his butt and we just tuned in to each other and off we went. You don't get many runs like that where you are both in the zone I enjoyed every minute of that run...hang on, it was only 33 secs!!LOL
  19. Go Lexi...didn't take you long to get to Masters
  20. http://susangarrett.wordpress.com/2009/01/...-motivated-dog/ This may help.
