  1. Hi I've got a 16 week old staffie - around 6.5kg's who needs some "firming up" and "consistency" in the poo department. It's been suggested (THANKS!!) that I get him on boiled chicken and rice for a while to get his belly back to normal and then start slowly introducing kibble (I'm waiting for my Orijen supply to arrive). I'm just not sure of quantities? Would it be around 50g chicken / 100g rice?? I'm really not too sure and don't want him to end up too constipated as a result of innacurate feeding. I've also heard that pumpkin is great too. I feed him twice a day. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  2. The one I know of down south charges $30 for a consult.
  3. I would be really inclined to give your pup boiled chicken breast (no skin) and boiled rice for a number of days until everything is looking better. Then start to add orijen very slowly i.e. first few meals just 5 or 6 pieces of kibble and see how he goes. Giving him orijen straight off will probably just give you the same results (runny poo). I would also do drontal worming (from the Vet not the supermarket) 2 doses a fortnight apart in case it's Giardia. Mel. Thank you so much for the advice, I certainly will take it on board. How many grams of boiled chicken and rice would you suggest???? I feed him twice a day. And I also wormed him "advocate" on the 2nd, he's due again on the 2nd of next month. Should I give him a drontal anyway just in case it is giardia? Or would that be totally overdoing it?
  4. I live in the South of Adelaide and know there's a vet in Christies Beach - I can PM you his details if you like, who is a standard chiro but also consults for animals after hours twice a week. He was sooo great with my rottie - even trying to take x-rays unsedated to diagnose his condition.
  5. I've just ordered a small bag of the puppy Orijen for my 16 week old staffie who since I got him has had a BAAAAAD rear end. (runny / sometimes diarreah / sometimes hard / sometimes just constantly dripping / lots of wind) A lot of the same sxs as a lot of the pp have. I'm sure the constant changing of diet has a lot to do with it as well as him being ultra sensitive. Supercoat gives him wind and runny inconsistent poo's, Pedigree Natural (I know, but less protein so I thought it was worth a go) was the same and he was eating it, I tried adding turkey mince and this too has given him the splatters. So fingers crossed the Orijen works and I can move on from this new "poo obsession" I have and we can be a happy family!!
  6. I'm so sorry that you and your beloved dog have to go through this. I know it's "life" and we all do in the end but it doesn't make it any easier. My 9 1/2 yr old Rottie passed away (euthanased) mid July this year due to bone cancer. He simply started limping and then the vet noticed the lump on his shoulder blade. He was in great spirits for many many weeks, eating and being his normal self. He stayed strong and "normal" for around 13 weeks and then had a very rapid decline. The lump grew quite fast and in the end was bigger than a tennis ball. He stopped eating and lost a lot of weight 6kg in the end (when he never fluctuated in his weight his entire life). His decline was only about a week and we are just so grateful that we were able to put an end to his pain and be there with him at the very end. I'm still very, very emotional over his loss (hence crying while writing this) and want you to know that I can totally 100% relate to your situation. Much hugs to you and your puppy X
  7. my 14 week old staffie has been doing this for a couple of weeks now too, I just thought he was being really good and doing all his business outside That was till I smelt his breath and caught him in the act. I've been assuming its because it's going through him too fast for him to get all the nutrients so he has to have a 2nd attempt!!!
