Sorry thats too hard for me Im O.K. with sewing straight lines and squares together but if you up the ante even a little bit Im gone. Shaggy quilts are really only that (straight lines and squares), but that's fine. I am a quilter myself, so what did you want as far as donations of fabric? I do have some here with dogs and I think I also have some with paws on if you like, or did you want particular colours? -
Don't worry, Molly has loads of place to get away ... usually my bed. When Toby first came and he got too much she would flatten him with her paw and that would slow him down

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I only keep desexed dogs, so it looks like things will be fine

Thanks dogmad, but we prefer puppies. My mother won't have them older, though it doesn't bother me. We are thinking about it and I have done some searching on the rescues in our area. I'm also going to check with our vets because they sometimes have dumped animals left with them. The right one will find us at the right time ... well that's what seems to happen with most of our other dogs anyway :D

I know I'm not a regular, so I don't want to tread on any toes, but have you thought about a shaggy quilt? They are great for people who are looking for something easy to put together and has very little skill required. I've made a couple myself and they are great. Just an idea :D -
I did hear that the bitches can be a bit that way. We used to have a Silky (Sasha) who really didn't like Molly, our Jack Russell X. They never fought at all, but Sasha made it clear how she felt and Molly knew not to push her luck .. lol .. other than that we've never had any issues.

Thanks for the advice. You are wonderful for rescuing and fostering so many dogs, especially the older dogs. It's heartbreaking to lose them, but they bring so much to your life.

I would love to hear some advice from people more experienced than me with this topic. We have always had at least 3 dogs for as long as I can remember, but only ever one male in the group. We currently have one 3 year old male shitzu X who is an absolute sweetie and not a mean bone in his body, as well as our 11 year old Jack Russell X who is a female and a lovely girl too (both are desexed). We have decided that since we recently lost our little mini foxie (Lucy), that we have room in our family for a rescue dog and wonder whether you would recommend we get a male or a female. A rescue I spoke to recently has said that two males (desexed) are fine together, but I would love to hear what others here think. I would be looking at a small breed because it will be a house dog. Thanks :-)

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. We lost our little girl last Friday and it was quite sudden. I also keep looking out for her, especially since she was blind, and we always checked before we moved. I also had to put two different eye drops in her remaining eye every night (she had glaucoma), and I still go to do that too. It will take some time to get used to her not being there, and I'm sure you're feeling the same way too. Hugs to you and your family

I just wanted to say thank you to those who offered advice to me. Lucy crossed the rainbow bridge this afternoon. We made the decision to put her to sleep when the new vet (I did get a second opinion, as suggested) confirmed a tumor. Thankfully she was in no pain and is now probably running around with Charlie and Sasha happy and free. I am going to miss her so much, but I know we did the right thing for her. Thank you all again.
-
Thanks. She's an indoor dog, so I don't think it would be any grass seeds (unless it's come in on our shoes). She also has other symptoms such as chewing her feet, her ears are quite red at times as well as around her chin and she is a bit itchy around her tummy area. The vet seemed to feel like it was allergy, but I will be going back next week when her antibiotics are finished. She's always been a bit of an allergic dog, but this year seems to have been particularly bad for her.
-
Thanks for taking the time to answer me. I'll keep trying until I find one that works for her. She's perfectly well in every other respect, so hopefully when we get on top of this, she will be OK.
-
Thanks oakway, that's what we are going to do next week. I do think she needs antihistamine again because she seems to have all the symptoms and is otherwise in perfect health. Maybe the Polaramine wasn't the right one for her?
-
Could I please ask some advice? I have a little 11 year old mini foxie who has had the worst allergy and sneezing this year. She developed a lump like swelling on her nose, so we took her to the vet and she is currently on antibotics. This doesn't seem to have helped with the lump very much, and I'm wondering whether to try another antihistamine? She is still sneezing (not as badly as she was though), and we did try Polaramine which didn't really help much. Does anyone have a suggestion that would be better for me to try with her as we have another week of the antibiotics before we go back to the vet? It is making it worse for her as she is blind (glaucoma and has been blind since she was 3 years old) and she is losing direction and bumping into things more than normal. It's breaking my heart seeing her like this and I am in tears at the moment feeling like we will have to put her to sleep if we can't resolve this for her. She is healthy in every other respect, but because she is blind she relies more heavily on her hearing and sense of smell which aren't working for her at the moment. Can someone please help me?

I'm not sure what to suggest, but years ago our GSD ate my mother's orange tree ..... it wasn't fully grown, but piece by piece he gradually ate it until it was at ground level .... she can laugh at it now, but she was furious at the time. What type of bush is it that your dog is eating, and do you know if it is something toxic? It's funny how they do this even though you have given them loads of toys.
-
I got mine from the vet, but you should also be able to buy it online from pet suppliers (my vet sells it online if you have any problems getting it. I don't think you will though) .....
-
Do you have a shady area where you could dig a hole to put a drinking bowl into? It would be great for keeping the water cool in summer, and the dog shouldn't be able to knock it over either.
-
That's great news. Looks like you might have a mess on your hands for a little while though ..

Thank you so much Harminee ... I really appreciate it ...

Keeping everything crossed here for you ... I hope it all goes well ...

Oh Rascal, I'm so sorry. :D I'm sure there are lots of other little ones taking care of him because there are so many wonderful dogs lost here of late (including one of ours). Huge hugs from my family to yours ...
