  1. Only 1 Wheaten That's so disappointing. VERY disappointing, especially for the judge
  2. I'm glad you raised this point. Sending a loved one who's tormented with pain or malignancy on their way with gentleness, peace and love has got to be OK for us as well as our treasured animals, don't you think?
  3. I think one of the most 'soul destroying' procedures for a vet and staff to perform must be desexing a late term pregnancy, dog or cat. You know, "oh, we were going to get her desexed but the dog/cat next door got to her before we got around to it"
  4. Yes, isn't it funny how you may have had information presented to you you before, but a particular book, author, instructor, person presents that information in such a way that the penny drops. I've had this happen on many occasions. When I was finally recommended to read The Dog In Action after ten years of showing, I could have fallen on my knees in thanks to the person who recommended it to me. It was like a veil had lifted before my eyes. Suddenly I could see what I was looking at. A must read for every exhibitor and breeder IMO
  5. Group 2 BIG Kerry Blue dog (Buckley) AuB Kerry Blue bitch (Buckley) Go Kerries - yay
  6. 5.30pm ABC tv News 24 just said that pets ARE welcome at the Ipswich evacuation centre.
  7. Ellz, Please clear your inbox.
  8. Just another thought - if you have friends whose dogs are fully vaccinated, then ask them to come over to your house to visit. This will also help to minimise exposure to environmental germs.
  9. I wouldn't recognise my car without "pup-kiss" prints all over the insides of the windows! I'm lucky, my OH loves the dogs As Much As I Do and has become a keen Showie to boot!
  10. Ok how about this: Richard, Your guest this morning, the filmaker, Adam Elliot, said, "like a lot of purebred dogs which are in a lot of trouble, seriously, a lot of the purebreds are so inbred they have all sorts of genetic problems." This kind of throw-away generalised statement does substantial harm to registered breeders of purebred dogs who spend $1,000's and lots of time and effort to access every available health test to screen breeding stock for soundness before producing puppies. I suggest that at that point in the interview Mr.Elliot could have been asked whether his two Pugs had been acquired from Breeders registered with their relevant State and national Canine Control bodies. If they were not, but instead were produced by a puppy farm or by an ill-considered backyard breeding, then it is no surprise that unsound dogs were the outcome. Please air this counter statement on your program tomorrow to be fair to the many registered Breeders who are committed to ethical practices. Thank you for your program.
  11. Just confirming that the Cooma KC Show 26th-28th Nov will definitely be held at the Cooma Showground.
  12. I am sorry but that information is false. My cousin has been breeding boxers for 17 years. In that time she has had 2 deaf white boxer and considering there is nearly always 1 white boxer per litter, the deafness ratio is extremely low (less than 1%). Also deaf boxers do yip, bark etc. As for the blue Staffords, there is currently 82 Stafford puppy listing on here, 42 of those are blue/blue lines and the majority of those are all sold on main register. The blues are doing more damage for the breed than any other colour, ie not meeting the standard (and not just the nose), skin issues, temp issues and not to forget the over pricing. When you have novice people who bought a blue pup on main reg and decided to breed with no importance to health, temp, type, only for the money there can never be a good outcome for the breed. Leanne I was only reporting what was directly told to me by one Boxer breeder who has a number of years of experience behind her.
  13. Isn't it true that the genes for white coat in Boxers are also strongly linked to a likelihood for deafness?
  14. Has anybody yet mentioned the grievous situation of white Boxers? White Boxer puppies are usually deaf. Breeders know they are deaf because they don't learn to bark (yip yip) when the other puppies do but instead, just make this horrible yowling noise. That's when the breeders take them for the green dream. So Sad.
  15. It's a "kerry blonde" That is mismarked kerry not a wheaten. In fact, if you look at the wheaten head it's more irish terrier than kerry. I've posted that before along with pictures of black and tan kerries, tri-colour kerries. The irish, wheaten and kerry are closely related, of course. There are a number of mismarked kerries and there's a very good article from Dr Neil O'Sullivan (a geneticist and himself a wheaten breeder) about the genetics of kerries and wheatens (can't find the link). Wheatens are actually genetically sable (hence the brown and black colour they're born with) and only one gene turns them wheaten. It's like having a different dog each month until they're around 18 months to two years. This is an (in)famous photo of incorrectly coloured Kerry Blue Terriers. As Sheridan said, Kerries, SCWTs and Irish are quite closely related but are also distinclty different in coat type, texture, colour, head and body shape and temperament. One of the most amusing questions I've ever been asked about my Kerry Blues is "do they come in any other colours?" Duh, NO. The soft, wavy slatey blue-grey coat is a hallmark of the breed, a distinctive feature which cannot be compromised. Oh and BTW the Kerry standard states that the nose and nails must be black and that the gums and roof of mouth must be darkly pigmented. Every Kerry Blue Terrier has a Black nose.
  16. no, fred comes from the illawarra, a very fine example of the breed Correction: Fred the Scottie went on to RUBIS to a black American Cocker
  17. Would anyone like to hunt up a picture of a Catahoula Leopard Dog and a Murray River Curly Coatedc Retriever (sorry I really don't know how to do pictures yet)
  18. I am not involved with the organisation of this show but since I am a local I thought I could help by giving exhibitors a heads-up on the change of venue. The venue for this weekend's show has been changed from Bemboka sportsground to Nimmitabel Showground due to increasing problems with bindii-type prickles at Bemboka. For exhibitors travelling from Canberra or other parts inland, your journey via Cooma to Nimmitabel will be 20-30 minutes shorter. For exhibitors travelling from coastal regions, your journey will be 20-30 minutes longer and will include going through Bemboka then up the Brown Mountain to Nimmitabel. The Brown Mountain has a steepish grade and 2 or 3 hairpins. The road is well sealed and signage advice is good. There is plentiful unpowered camping at the Nimmitabel Showground and the facilities are good. Powered campsites are available at the Camping Ground in Nimmitabel. The Showground is about 5 min.s drive from the main street and is well grassed. The Nimmitabel Lions Club will be catering for the show and the Nimmitabel Country Club (in the town) will be offering a hot casserole on rice for dinner on the Friday night and a hot roast dinner on the Saturday night. I have suggested that they be prepared to take orders for dinners during the afternoons and deliver them to folk camping at the Showground. For anyone at the Camping Ground, it is right beside the Country Club. This late change of venue must be a big decision for the organisers and the Nimmitabel community are a little unsure of what to expect but the goodwill is plentiful so please do come and ask for anything you need.
