My ridgeback is on Eaglepack Hollistic Large breed adult now & doing great, previously used Nutrience & Royal Canin & had to feed almost twice as much as Eaglepack.
-
I tried my ridgeback on roo meat from the butcher & she would not touch it, the cats liked it though.

He's so gorgeous... but he totally knows it! hehehe He is beautiful, I am a sucker for a ridgeback. ;) I have to agree mental stimulation is good too, practice siting, fetch, coming when called.

My ridgeback is on large breed adult EP (holistic) & have also used the duck one when I could not get the other, I have previously used Royal Canin & Nutrience & found she eats about half the EP as the other two & small poos & she settles down alot quicker after eating it too.

My ridgeback Holly had similar symptoms to this earlier this year, the vet thinks she was bitten by a bee or a wasp. Hope he is better soon.

Your Dog's Unusual Food Preferences
ridgiemum replied to poodlefan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My ridgeback eats almost anything, she loves fruit though, strawberries, nectarines, peaches, mandarin, kiwi fruit, anything we are eating she likes to try too. She ate brocolli & snow peas off the floor the other day. -
Preferred Premium And Super Premiums?
ridgiemum replied to stormie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Eaglepack is what my ridgeback has, had some supply problems, could not get large breed adult food. -
I hope they are better tasting (for the dog) than the tablets, I used to have to wrap them up with a piece of ham or something similiar or my ridgeback Holly would spit it out.
-
My ridgeback loves brocolli, she hoovers around the kitchen when we are cooking it.

1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) 2nd time ridgeback owner. 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? Someone with more knowledge than me can answer this one. 3. How common is it in Australia? Not very common. 4. What is the average lifespan? 10-12 years 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Depends on the dog, 1st ridgeback (very lazy, couch potato/lap dog), 2nd ridgeback (very playful, loves long walks/lap dog). 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? 30 mins daily (2nd ridgeback, wouldn't worry if you missed a day & just have games in the backyard), 1st ridgeback (zoomies in the backyard was enough). 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Maybe, it was our first dog as a adult owner, had other dogs as kids. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Sometimes, they prefer to be with other animals & their owners (could not be an outside all the time dog). 9. How much grooming is required? Very little, brush once a week. 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? Probably, whippy tail & zoomies could knock small children over, sometimes they are unaware of their size. 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? Dermoid sinus, hip/elbow problems. 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) As above, research the breed, visit dogs shows, see breeders dogs.

Has Your Dog Ever Choked On A Raw Bone?
ridgiemum replied to puppymum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My previous ridgeback Zoe got a raw lamb shank bone stuck on her teeth, got home one day & she was drooling everywhere, had to rush to the vets to get it off (I could not get it off stuck fast) -
I love these, what a wonderful idea

This is the one (Gt Western Highway) we take our ridgeback Holly to, can recommend them very highly.
-
We used to be able to buy kangaroo tails from Coles for our previous ridgeback, but they don't seem to be around anymore, that was about 5 years ago.
-
I would not recommend this one, my ridgie got her foot stuck in this one & could not get it off herself.
-
Seems like good advice, I was given similar advice from my breeder, my ridgeback is nearly 11 months old.

My girl had the same thing happen about 2 years ago, I gave her a antihistamine tablet and the lumps went, but it was quite bizarre to see her covered in all these lumps, I guessed it was from a bite when I saw her like this. She has never had this happen since, so it was just a one off. Thanks anniejac, it is just a bit scary when it happens, you feel very helpless. Holly is all okay now.

We had to rush Holly (our ridgeback) to the vet yesterday afternoon , I got home from work & saw what looked like a couple of insect bites on her head, but about 1/2 hr later, she had lumps all over her head, face & front legs, her face & eyes were all swollen too. The vet thinks she was bitten by wasps or some type of insect, had 2 shots & the swelling & lumps seem to calm down immediately. Seems like an allergic reaction to the bites. She slept alot last night. So fingers crossed all will be okay now. She seems back to her normal self this morning. Has anyone had this happen before???

Kibble Thread - What Do You Feed, What Result/s?
ridgiemum replied to poochmad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Nutrience (large breed puppy) - had to feed twice as much as other foods & huge poos, ridgie hungry all the time. Eagle Pack (Holistic large breed puppy) - fantastic, feed half the amount & ridgie looks great, coat shiny & smaller poos :D -
I have just changed to Eagle Pack (Holistic) & feed half as much as I used to & my ridgie loves it (smaller poos too). :D
-
That's funny my ridgie destroyed the tuffie toys up to a 9, but the cuz balls are still in one piece.

Where Can I Buy Calnat From In Sydney?
ridgiemum replied to littlebear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Try Petbarn, I have seen it there in the Blacktown store. -
Yeah, I wish there were swimming spots in Western Sydney too, especially today, supposed to be 38 degrees

In my Woolies, it's in the frozen foods section, not the petfood section - so it's in the freezers with other frozen petfood just a bit fuerther down from the ice cream  I don't think they are available over here? I've looked a few times and not found them. Edited to add I'm in NSW I found these at our local IGA in NSW & my ridgie loves them.
