So far I have tried- Science Diet- She was on this when I adopted her from the RSPCA. She seemed to do ok on it but after doing some research I wasn't happy paying top dollar for (what I consider) a food full of fillers and crap. Artemis Puppy- She did quite well on this but had a bit of an itchy back on it. She wouldn't scratch herself but if I gave her a scratch on her back (in the centre) her leg would go like mad. Money got tight and on good reviews here I tried... Great Barko- I like that it put a little bit more weight on her BUT she is now reactive itchy nearly all over. She doesn't scratch badly nor have any visual signs but if I scratch her belly/chest/back her leg goes into hypermode scratching at air. I am now looking at going to BARF but have a LOT more research to do so in the meantime I am looking for a dry food that won't make her itchy all over...if I cannot find anything I will go back to the Artemis.

I apologise in advance if this has already been done but I have searched and cannot find anything relevant... Just wondering how much putting together a Barf diet costs you a week/fortnight/month (whichever you can figure it by)? I am moreso interested in those that do their own diets not the pre-purchased barf patty things. Also where do you purchase the majority of your meat/bones? Supermarket, butcher, pet related store etc Thanks in advance

Preventing Resource Guarding
Pailin replied to Just Midol's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have not actively worked to do anything to prevent it as, in my opinion, if my pooch sees me as the leader/pack leader then resource guarding shouldn't even become an issue. I am really strict with her not entering doorways before me or unless invited, not jumping on the couches unless I invite her to, her walking beside or behind me and the pram, and all that sort of jazz. She is an amazing pup and extremely well behaved. We have also taught a strict "leave it" command so that if she is eating at any time I can tell her to leave it and she will sit and look to me, I can take her food if necessary but I really don't need to and don't do it a lot. I quite like the idea of adding better things in to their bowl theory. Will keep that in mind if ever needed though I hope it won't be lol. -
Wing K9 & Katz Kitchen do free delivery to the Melbourne metro area, they offer an excellent service and I can highly recommend them. K9 & Katz Kitchen website ETA Oops someone's already posted. I also recommend the above^^. I get Artemis through them and they even pay half of the postage costs to Brisbane. Quick easy and reliable!

Baby sunscreen. My vet said that anything I put on my baby is suitable for my dog. It works well and she has never been burnt so far.

Agree completely. Anything with a remotely blocky head is a staffy or amstaff, any dog with a red nose is a pitbull and anything largish and black and tan is a rottie. Stoopid. Statistics should ONLY be made with actual purebreeds. Anything that is not purebred should be listed as a crossbred, mixed breed or mutt and then they would see from the stats that majority of the statistics would land in the mixed breed section and they should then be trying to decrease the amount of X breds out there by putting stricter laws into play with regards to backyard breeders, desexing and puppy farmers. THEn the bloody idiots may actually see a decline in the dog attacks statistics. Mandatory course on dog ownership wouldn't go astray either.

See that is the thing though....it starts and stays rough with those two. The moment they see one another they get started. It doesn't slowly escalate so it is either full on or not at all. Lolly does seem to differentiate between different dogs and different play....She doesn't harrass my Mum's old mini foxy at all (he's grumpy) and she leaves him well enough alone. She is also very submissive and gentle in playing with my Mum's Staffy bitch who is very dominant. Oh and it is always supervised. So I would be better off not socialising them? Or controlling it more (as in both leashed)? Any other suggestions?

OMG that is so awesome!! You are fantastic Harminee! I cannot believe how quickly you managed to do that What program do you use?

My pup is approximately 5-6months old at the moment and I sometimes go and visit my sister and take her with so that she can have a play with my sister's dog. I figure the more socialisation she gets with other dogs, and especially family dogs that she will be around in the future, the better BUT.... My sister's dog is a Neopolitan Mastiff and is about 4yrs old. She is a beautiful big girl but obviously quite a bit larger than Lolly and they play REALLY rough. Lolly enjoys it the whole time and there has been only one incident where Lolly has yelped and Suede (the mastiff) backed of immediately only to have Lolly launch straight back in. There has never been any blood shed nor growling that wasn't play orientated and the only injury that has ever come of it is a slight bald patch on the side of Lolly's neck from where it appears one of Suede's claws has caught her. It only removed the hair though...the skin was not broken at all. Lolly is the main perpetrator in the whole thing though and if Suede stops and lays down for a rest then Lolly will jump on her and get it started again... Lolly doesn't bite at all and majority of the play is just jumping all over one another and wrestling- a lot of paws flying etc... If Lolly is enjoying it should I just let them have fun and play? Will any of the described effect Lolly in a negative way? TIA

Oh that's so sad . RIP sweet . May you forever fly free

Hi everyone, Was wondering if someone might help to make me a signature? Pretty please  ?!! Here is a link to the photos There is a flower picture in there that I would like included if possible, it has meaning to me. I had a fiddle with Photoshop myself but I have absolute NO creativity and was really struggling with the program . I would really appreciate any help. TIA ETA- Her name is Lolly btw.

Is that a serious suggestion?? I have never heard of such a thing. Isn't that a bit ummm.....extreme? I would imagine it would be uncomfortable on the dog to not have the range of movement in their ears that they should.

Phew! Thank you all! It's nice to know she won't look quite so lopsided forever lol! Wouldn't have mattered either way really but it's nice to know . DeltaCharlie- What breed is Missy? She's gorgeous!

And here's the last one .

And no I am not one of those OTT people who walk their dogs in prams . We had all fone for a walk and I hadn't collapsed the pram when we got back so Lolly decided that it would be a comfortable place to sleep....

Lolly has one ear, her right one, that actually folds onto her head. It is a constant thing and looks really cute atm and freaking hilarious sometimes . I am just wondering if it will correct itself as she matures? It is mainly just when she perks her ears up IYKWIM?

Thank god! I really need that freezer and cannot afford to replace it at the moment. Luckily the sparky that is coming is a family friend so if it can be done it shouldn't cost me a lot . I'll ask him when I can get a hold of him....I just really needed reassurance that it was fixable because I couldn't find anything when I googled it. Thank you .
-
Yeah so do I . We were definitely very lucky that it was unplugged, especially since I was considering running an extension cord through a window to plug it in but hadn't got around to it yet.

My *darling* puppy has decided that she doesn't already have enough to chew on and decided to chew completely through my outdoor freezer power cord  . Luckily it wasn't on as I was getting an electrician out to install an outdoor power point.... So I have two questions; 1. Does anyone know if the power cord can be replaced? She chewed it completely off and left about 20cm of cord still attached. I need it to get all of the raw meats and bones to freeze for her so the little duffa did herself a disservice in the long run . 2. Is there anything that I can do to discourage chewing? She is a big chewer (sp?) and has plenty of toys and crap to chew on. She also gets lots of bones, chicken necks ect. She gets lots of attention as I am a stay at home mum and the kids and I (toddler and baby) spend majority of the day outside. I socialise her with my mother's 2 dogs and my sisters dog and take her to the nearby park every couple of days or for a short walk to the local shop. Any advice would be great! ETA- She is a 9 week old (although I think she may be a little older) mix breed from the RSPCA. They had her down as a staffy cross and I think there is a bit of bull terrier thrown in. She is a big girl though which is what makes me think she is older than 9 weeks.....either that or she has a bigger breed in her.
