Thanks everyone, some good leads to follow up on
-
Hi everyone, I've been feeding my boy Ziwipeak and he's doing great on it. But lately I can't seem to find it anywhere, the site I usually get it from (Natural Petstore) has been out of stock of the 5kg bags for a while, the other site I use (Bowhouse) is also out, it's not even on the Petforce website anymore. And I have never actually seen it in any pet shops. So has anyone seen it in any pet shops around sydney or on another website that I haven't checked? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Fady

Just wondering if getting a dog de-sexed will have an effect on his muscle tone. My vet has told me it won't, but it's hard to believe that losing all that testosterone will have no impact at all. What have everyones experiences been?

I'm using Ziwipeak for treats and sometimes for meals, my boy loves them, but they might be a bit small for you, and pretty expensive too.
-
My boy was exactly like this, he would walk a few houses down and then stop, wouldnt even pay attention to treats, the only direction he would go is back home. He looked scared so I just gave him a few weeks, he's now around 5 months and loves his walks.

I get them from the fishmonger, around $4-$6 a kg I think.

I give my boy whitebait or pilchards once a week, he loves em.

Thanks for the informative responses guys anita - I think that last comment was made in regards to uncertain situations, not everyday or instinctive decisions. Cheers, Fady

I was reading the aggression and natural protection thread and there was a bit of discussion on obedience and leadership and some great points were raised about dogs only listening to their owners because they know they will get treats etc, and also about dogs using obedience to control their owners. It seems obedience =/= leadership, far from it. So here are a few questions: What is the difference? (I think I already know, but just to make it clear and for others that read) How do you know if your dog respects you as a leader? How do you earn your dogs respect as a leader? It was also said that the only dangerous dog is the one that makes up its own mind- How do you stop a dog from making up its own mind? Feel free to answer any or all the questions, I'm sure theres more I had in my head before, but they're gone now, so any info/opinions on the topic are appreciated. As a side note, my boy Tyson (5 months old) listens to me whether Ive got treats or not (probably because he thinks I do) but when there are lots of people and excitement he wont listen to the more difficult commands (eg he will sit but wont roll over). I know he's still a pup but Id like to know these things from now so I can instill it from a young age, I'm currently using TOT and NILIF, though I should probably re-read both of them. Cheers, Fady

The brand from the chicken strip thread IS a well known brand and it not sold in the $2 shops. They have a HUGE range of products (not only treats). -
Ava / Sydney Uni Warning On Dog Food

It sounds like the same product mentioned in this thread: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=152445 I think it's ridiculous that instead of pulling the product when they find out there is a problem with it, they threaten legal action against those trying to help. Have any importers/manufacturers admitted to their foods being irradiated (apart from Orijen obviously)?
-
The only grain free food not stocked by Pets Hell is Artemis Fresh Mix Maximal Dog. Poochmad - I would contact Judith on [email protected] , also it is not irradiated and my understanding can be feed to puppy/adult. Also do be aware that it does not contain Beet Pulp - a substance found in most dog foods to make stools firm, so a change to it may take the dog's digestive system a little while to get use to. edit 4sp What about ZiwiPeak?

Eagle Pack has grains. Sometimes the only difference between puppy and adult foods is the size of the pieces, check the ingredients of the ones you had in mind they could be the same. Cheers, Fady
