Oh my gosh how inspiring. .... and I think I have a little crush on him!

Of course, but you don't realise what some people are like when they lose their pets. Not all pet owners care for them like you or me. Hence why it has become an optional thing and cards are only sent to those we know would appreciate it. I'm sure each and every DOL member would be one of those. I think it makes it more special.
-
Where i work it is not policy to send them. I've questioned the partners about it and they feel that while some appreciate it, others see it as a 'routine' thing and it loses meaning (feedback from when our clinic used to!!) So now we have cards available if we feel particular close to clients and know that they would appreciate it then we send them a card with those vets and nurses that had a lot to do with their pet in its final years. It is also special to receive cards and gifts from clients when their pets have been through tough times, big surgeries, or after years and years at our vet. A very special card was from someone that was previously not a client but our clinic was open later, they brought their Dane in to be PTS and appreciated the care given. It is lovely to get positive feedback.

Hi all, currently attatching the trailer to a tow truck, we've lost a wheel. We're heading from Melbourne to Brisbane for the Samoyed National on Saturday with 6 dogs on board (all safe happy and well, just a bit confused!) Just after any info on places anywhere from Tweed Heads to Brisbane that might be able to help us to fix the trailer, we'llbe making the three day journey back home next Wednesday. Thanks in advance!! ETA obviously would be best if it could be tomorrow or in brisbane if later than that.

Suspected Gunman On The Loose In Melb Cbd
Bindii replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I live in almost what could be referred to as the stix (well maybe not these days, the city is spreading) and a lady was stabbed and set alight by her partner at a petrol station two weeks ago about 10 minutes from where I live. There are mad people everywhere... -
Diy Hydrobath/drying Near Werribee And/or Showgrounds?
Bindii replied to Tassie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Many petrol stations have DIY hydrobaths (like a dollar a minute) but I don't know about that area, there's 3 within about 5 mins of me that I can think of, they're all the same brand, i'm on the other side of the city but I'd assume it would be the same over that way? I guess someone local would be able to give a better answer :D -

If you learn yourself how to do a basic exam and you know what is normal you can by pass the vet visit as long as if you do pick something up which is out of whack you take em off for a check up. I don't vaccinate anything past its first year booster - which I give them myself. While i agree with this to an extent, it is important to stress that you are very experienced. The average joe blow, perhaps not on this forum, or perhaps just passing by, should have yearly check ups. No i dont see my own doctor once a year, but I see my dentist once, sometimes twice if i remember. And I do see my doctor to get I a papsmear every 2 years (goodie!) There are things that should be "maintained" things like teeth which i don't understand. And things that may not cause me any pain, but should be checked. Dogs don't always make it obvious when they are ill and unless you are very experienced, or to some degree trained in the area perhaps a check up with a professional is good. A dogs life is much shorter than ours, so one year in their life is like seven passing in ours not just "doggy years" but literally, they of course to age faster than us.

Hear, hear! A dog is a carnivore, with a carnivore's digestive system, a carnivore's teeth. You can't say your dog is an omnivore when it's scientifically proven that they're not. Yes, of course they will eat fruit, vegetables and grain if that's what we feed them - just as we can eat processed food and sugary junk, even though it is not good for our bodies and will likely cause issues in the future. My own dog will graze on the apples and plums that fall from my trees - he loves the sugary sweetness. His body uses none of it - it all comes out the other end, looking quite similar to when it went in. Tell me. What will happen if i feed my rabbit meat? Dogs are not *obligate carnivores* (like a ferret or a cat) but they are carnivores! Meaning that they can digest vegetable matter too (unlike the ferret or the cat) Is your dog a wild dog? Wow! Even though my Samoyed is one of the most closely related domesticated breeds to a wolf, he has over years and years of eating the scrap food of his people developed teeth to grind vegetable matter. I said this in a post yesterday, I'm just so amazed at how many people think their own dogs are so unevolved! Who are they getting this information from? People on dog forums? or scientific research found somewhere other than the internet?

And I'm tagging along!! :D So so so so so excited!!!!

Funny habits or quirks: Sits in his show trolley or crate with his nose squashed up against it, sometimes causing his teeth to show and look super goofy! What's their personality like? Independent but an absoloute smoocher when he knows it's appropriate.. the perfect balance. Do they get along well with other dogs? That, above. It's scientific fact that the domesticated dog has evolved as such to have teeth that ground vegetables as they - for years and years and years - were fed the scrap food of their humans. Which included vegetables. For some reason now there's this myth that our domesticated dogs can't digest it anymore they're going backwards!! Meh, believe what you want! And that's a vet myth! Most vets know nothing about our breeds! (except the diseases they get!) Trust me :D Another one relevant to my breed- that all Samoyeds bark all day at nothing. eh?
-
I have heard that if the roof of the mouth is black it means they are a pure breed Me too!!! :) I forgot that until you mention it haha.

Just wondering if there will be one for June.. anyone know? A friend wants to give it a go. Cheers

Of All The Cheaper Dry Dogfoods Which Is The Best?
Bindii replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We dont sell dog food through work (except for prescription stuff and it's not on 'display') But most of the vets and nurses do a bulk order for themselves to get supercoat, they're all really happy with it, all have happy healthy shiney dogs.... and I like seeing the Samoyed puppy on the puppy packets! -
Not a Samoyed fan  But thank you extra special much for the compliment then He's 100% house dog as I plan to always have my Sammies! Makes it easy to keep them white. Even when he spends his day times outside playing in the dirt, it brushes out easily. The yellow staining comes from those on concrete that urinate, it dries, and then they lie on the concrete. Those that live in grass/dirt yards generally come up sparkling white after a bath. Also remember that some Samoyeds are biscuit or have biscuit colouring (often more so as they age, say, over 7 years) and that might appear "dirty" but is actually something that is part of the breed and is becoming increasingly rare due to the concept that they should all be snow white! ... or so i've been told! All I know is that I, myself, have an inside dog who is pure white

Yay!! Fletchie photos in all my favourite threads! Had an awesome day today (sorry for those who have already read it elsewhere) going Reserve Dog Challenge with 40 Samoyeds entered! *plus* a young man who behaved himself! edit: Thank you Sammy!! LOL yup body slamming was good (glad to hear it wasn't just Fletcher's bad influence!)

Bulla Autumn Extravaganza... Results :)
Bindii replied to capanash's topic in General Dog Discussion
i think it just needed to be explained better somewhere... in the entries, in the gazette, in the catalogue.. just somewhere. People were still confused about what was happening until it happened (announced via loudspeakers). I agree though, it was nice to have the running commentary on winners etc and seeing groups and breeds we don't normally get a chance to see. I absoloutely loved having Group 1,2,3 and 4. It's nice to see who would be "next," IYKWIM. Maybe if it had have all been explained better from the start then exhibitors would have appreciated it more. Maybe next year will run more smoothly (for exhibitors) now that the idea is better understood... I'm a new exhibitor (almost my first birthday!) but i got the impression this had not been done before at a 'normal' show. -
Bulla Autumn Extravaganza... Results :)
Bindii replied to capanash's topic in General Dog Discussion
Seemed to be a more relaxed feel having the show run as usual today! We had just about 40 Samoyeds entered yesterday and today and I had a really fun weekend! The weather managed to hold on for us and will hopefully rain all week until we have bathed the fluffies for next weekend. Fletcher was a BRAT yesterday and it was beyond ridiculous and embarrassing. Today he pulled himself together for RDCC which I was so happy about with so many entered. He didn't put a foot wrong, maybe I took the wrong dog in yesterday!? GROUP 6 BIG - Alaskan Malamute - "Gambler" (Junior) RUBIG - Samoyed - "Aussie" (Open) Then I went home Well done to all the winners this weekend -
You'll have to come say hi Evolving!

Could have also been Protech.
