Pound Surrender Fees
Dame Aussie replied to stellnme's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Sorry and flame away if you like but I think when you take on an animal you do so for life. There needs to be some kind of penalty for dumping your dog at the pound, it's not the responsible way to rehome. That would be finding a new home yourself (generic you of course, not directed at anyone) as part of your responsibility for that animal. With that said I can understand why councils implement fees. Yes it's to the detriment of the animals in some cases but that's not the councils fault, it's the fault of a population that cannot seem to take responsibility for their pets. -
Oh look at them in the photo, bless their cotton socks I will have a Pug one day :)

Pound Surrender Fees
Dame Aussie replied to stellnme's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
They have to run the pound somehow. Where I used to work it was around $20. That doesn't cover a skerrick of the cost of rehoming an animal. -
 cute pic :) Lili always waits right outside when I go to the toilet *rolleyes*

Yes, I feel the same. It shouldn't happen but sadly it does, very sad for the animals and the hoarder.

Wherever he came from he's lovely and you sound like a good owner. I'm glad the other pup is with a family member so you won't have to worry about fighting.

I wouldn't desex at all as long as you can keep him contained.

Question Regarding Dog Attacks
Dame Aussie replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have rats and my dogs aren’t allowed near them unless I’m there and they’re in their cage. I would imagine most people wouldn’t value a rat as highly as another dog, but some would, so yes, it is just as bad for the owner. However, having said that, I don’t believe it makes the dog “aggressive” or a “bad” dog. It’s natural behaviour. People generally believe dogs should be friendly with other dogs, but probably not with rats…...I think that’s the main difference. -
I agree.

So happy to hear that Anne, what a relief :)

Ok.. A Pic Of A Gorgeous Girl! September 14
Dame Aussie replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
CKCS? Dane? Not coated though. I would suggest an Aussie too as long as it would be well exercised. Mine can be a total lazy bum but when she wants exercise she lets us know! Ummm.. A larger breed like a Bernese or a St Bernard? -
What Was Your Latest New Purchase For Your Doggy?
Dame Aussie replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
My OH wants to get a skateboard and have Mosley pull him along...... I told him good luck and to go for it  It's a good idea in theory but you have to trust the dog won't drag you into a pond/road/ditch etc  -

I think as long as you make it clear to him what you want, and be patient, you'll be fine :)

Horrific Dog Attack In The Uk - Staffy Kills Pomeranian
Dame Aussie replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
There'd be some pretty strong evidence to that effect, I'm sure. Personally, I'd like to see not just fines but permanent dog ownership bans so that idiots can't do it again. I saw something on the news about a new law coming in that will ban people whose dogs have attacked, from having dogs for up to ten years. Who knows if it will actually be policed though.... I think owners of dogs like this should get jail time. -
Where is he during the day when you aren't there? Does he have access to outside if you aren't around? I do think you're expecting too much at this stage. At 18 weeks he is still a baby and so can't hold on for long. Also, as he is a baby, he is distracted by anything so when you take him out you need to stay there with him until he goes, just keep redirecting his attention and wait till he goes. You just need to keep being consistent but I wouldn't expect an 18 week old to be reliably toilet trained. Sure, some are, but every dog is different, some take longer than others.

A glow in the dark ball, which she has already hidden somewhere, never to be seen again. *rolleyes* -
Good luck at the vets teekay, I hope it's nothing serious. Keep us posted.

I really don't get the attitude some have that breeders are in it for the money, do they even stop to think for one second about the costs involved? If they did, I don't think they'd keep saying it. My purebred Aussie was $600 five years ago. There were eleven pups in the litter. Microchipped/vaccinated/wormed/health tested etc. not much of a profit there.

We are planning on a third dog once we get a bigger place, hopefully in the next 1-2 yrs so will be reading with interest! I don't imagine three would be that much worse than two though and she isn't a puppy so that makes it easier  Diva good point, I sometimes just want to take one dog out but I feel bad leaving the other

OH's parents are going to breed their SBT girl. I've told them I think it's a dumb idea, also asked them how they will deal if there is an emergency...they think it'll all be lovely and fun. Can't do much else.
