What a good dog! As for her....jail is too kind.

Scumbag. I agree with T. ETA: dogs used to come into the shelter with terribly tight collars all the time tight as in cutting into the skin. I think people put them on and then doggy goes into the yard never to be noticed again.

We use drop it too, very handy command. Glad to hear you're seeing some progress, she's lovely

Obedience Club Has Agreed To Titre Testing
Dame Aussie replied to a topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It's the idea that if the dog already has immunity, which can be found out with the titre test, why keep pumping it full of unneeded chemicals? It may be cheaper but it isn't in the best interest of the dog. That's the way I see it anyway. Oh and yes it does need to be repeated. I see you point, I don't vaccinate every year either but I live in the country and My obedience school don't required annual vacs. I am yet to start competing. My reason for asking is I just had a girl who ended up having a split season and was blood tested 6-7 times within the 5 weeks and now she hates going to the vet. She a great girl and wont fight but seems depressed as soon as we walk in there, done a couple of social visits during this period but that hasn't helped her. I am now opting out of the ultrasound conformation so I don't stress her during the pregnancy. Oh, poor munchkin -
Taser. Capsicum, spray. Something non deadly?

Yes, I was working for a big chain of clinics and I can tell you now the pay was terrible! I usually gravitate toward the more family owned clinics as I find they have more experience and are more personable and friendly with the animals.
-
Yeah, you have to research prices and get a few quotes until you find one you think is reasonable I think. When we moved we tried three or four different clinics and have now settled with one that had the best hours, prices and vets for us,

I'd try calling if I got no response. It is unfortunate they haven't replied, I thought we wanted people to buy pups from ethical breeders, can't do much if they ignore you! As others have said maybe you mentioning protection gave them the wrong idea. If you really like their dogs I'd call and explain what you mean. Other than that the info you've given sounds great. Good luck, let us know how you go! :)

Anyone Associated With Rescue At Renbury?
Dame Aussie replied to mita's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
As someone who has worked in a pound, it can be dangerous to label a dog you aren't sure of. I used to get people calling and describing their dog as "brown". Thats it.... Should the pound say yes, there is a brown dog here and give the owner false hope? The owner shouldn't be just calling, they need to go in and look. -

I found my Aussie online and then visited the breeder to pick her up. -
Nawwww. I like the same one you do, he looks like he's about to howl the black background is great for his coloring. He looks just like my girl did at that age but she's a red Merle :)

Rip Joey Our Sweet Little Man 4th Sept 2013
Dame Aussie replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Oh Jules I'm so sorry to hear this. RIP Joey, you were much loved. -
Does anyone know if police in Victoria have access to tasers or capsicum spray? It would seem more sensible to use something non deadly to repel an oncoming dog? But I don't know if they are allowed to use them?

How interesting, I didn't even realise you could be allergic to it! Sorry I'm no help, what a pain. I am allergic to certain grass and come up in hives, they're no kinda fun

I think it makes people feel heroic and virtuous. Whether that bears any resemblance to the reality appears irrelevant. Good for getting dogs rescued I guess, which is great, but to me just another way some people use dogs to address their own emotional deficits. Might need to crack out my flame suit, but I have seen it play out in ways that are not good for the dog. Yeah I believe it's this too. They like feeling as though they saved the dog, they like telling people they saved the dog etc. On its own there's nothing wrong with that and they should feel proud they have given a dog a good home. It's when they become really obsessed with the idea the dog was abused that seems a bit wrong.

My....how Different We Look Without Our Long Hair
Dame Aussie replied to Marion 01's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Hehe look at them! My Dad has a Pom he shaves in summer, she looks like a little mini dingo -
When I was working at a shelter, quite often people would adopt a dog and be convinced it was abused, whether it's behaviour indicated that or not. I think people believe that abandoned/rescue dogs are always neglected or abused but I don't think it's the case at all and I have seen, as others have said, abused dogsthat showed no signs and well looked after dogs who you would swear have been beaten. So in saying all that, I agree there's not much point worrying about what has happened to a dog, but just working with the dog and it's current behaviours.

Why You Shouldn't Shave Your Long Coated Dog
Dame Aussie replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep, Aussies arent mainly from cold climates as far as I know, and they have a double coat. -
