The staff aren't the problem. Why would people work in this industry seeing the worst of people, dealing with heartbreaking situations every day, for crap money if they didn't care? Simple. They wouldn't. Sick of seeing staff blamed for management and societies stuff ups. I don't agree with over medicating everything, it needs to be done responsibly, but plenty of good dog owners have dogs on anti anxiety drugs and we don't judge them for it. If it helps a dog get rehomed then what's the issue?

We feed turkey legs and wings without issues :) You could freeze them first to slow the dogs down and make them chew properly if you're worried but we've fed them both frozen and fresh with no dramas.

My dogs are companions. We don't compete in sports or show so it's not really important in that sense. However, I am interested in their backgrounds and have researched and read a lot on them. I also chose them based on some of the traits they possess so it does play a part in my choice of breed. I don't try and train against their natural instincts. I accept Mosley will bark/protect and Lili wants to chase everything

Brave Little Girl Thalia Standley Tells How Dog Ate Her Arm
Dame Aussie replied to DakotaJ's topic in In The News
so is your dog in an escape proof yard? Concrete flooring so it can't dig and a roof over head so it can't climb, with a padlock on the gate. Cause that's the only way to fully prevent things like this happening.... honestly and in a nutshell: the backyard is currently safe, but there is room for improvement. Are you happy now? So if it isn't perfect (i.e. there's room for improvement as there was in this case) you're taking the risk your dog could do this exact thing to a child. So why do you expect any more from other dog owners? -
Brave Little Girl Thalia Standley Tells How Dog Ate Her Arm

As someone has said earlier the limb was not chewed off (that is media exaggeration) it was amputated at the hospital because of the irreparable damage to ligaments and tendons. That's it though, we cant trust anything the media say. -

That hole is simply not big enough for a Mal to get enough of its muzzle out and then open its mouth wide enough to take hold of and chew a girls arm. The only possible way for this to happen would appear to be if the child stuck her hand through. I'm not saying she did, just that the gap is tiny. I also question how a child would not pass out if a limb was literally being chewed off. The original article said it was amputated too. It's horrible yes, but personally I won't make any judgements here as the two articles contradict each other too much for us to have a clear understanding of what actually happened. -
Yep. I also explain things to them in long sentences which they obviously don't understand

I see no issue with this but as HW said if it's really hot I'd have pup inside. A dog door is a great idea too.

Five-Year-Old Girl Was Bitten By Dog Inside Bunnings Store
Dame Aussie replied to Two Best Dogs!'s topic in In The News
There were 2 dogs and the other was getting the pat I thought Yes, that's what I said. I'm assuming both dogs belonged to the same person? When I have kids wanting to pat my dogs I let them pat Poppy but not Amber. Yeah we don't allow kids to pat Lili but Mosley is fine. -
This. My boy can get excited around other dogs sometimes and we usually just say sorry he loves other dogs and there's no issue :)

I don't think it's worth it personally and prefer to put away extra money for the dogs and keep a credit card in case of emergencies.

Clipping Double Coated Breeds
Dame Aussie replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think if the dog is noticeably happier/more comfortable then go for it. My only worry is the way it grows back but it seems that's quite variable. some seem to grow back fine, others a bit wild. I've heard a lot of Aussie owners say that their dogs coats changed when they were desexed too. -

Not to mention she looks adorable Don :D -
Omg she's so frikken cute in her little rainbow coat

He looks just like a wolf

I don't show or breed but if I wanted a guaranteed show quality dog I'd be looking for a young adult that I knew would be successful. There's just no guarantees with pups unfortunately.

Clipping Double Coated Breeds
Dame Aussie replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Personally I'd never clip a double coated dog. Both our guys have double coats and do fine in summer as they're brushed regularly. I do agree that its better to be clipped than a matted mess though. I also think Poms look adorable clipped. My Dad used to clip his and she looked like a mini dingo -
Dog Butt Wiggle Behaviour Question
Dame Aussie replied to Two Best Dogs!'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep my bob tailed Aussie is a butt wiggle champion. She will stick her butt out and look back at me with a stupid smile and wiggle away till I scratch her butt  and yes it's a happy, playful thing :) -
Yep agree. If I leave food in their reach, they'll eat it! They know I don't want them to but they don't care  Pulling apart cactuses is fun!
-
Its interesting. My Aussie is red merle and when we first got her she almost looked white. All the red markings on her body took a few months to come in fully.
-
I have no issue with good breeders making a profit. There are also lots of hidden costs in breeding and doing it well. I admit I do recoil occasionally at the price of certain breeds!
-
 it's like he knows that they're cheap. Must destroy the expensive ones only!!
-
The only beds my destructo dog hasn't killed are the rectangle cheapo Hessian ones. He could destroy them but doesn't for some reason?!
-
Yeah it's funny, despite all the warnings to change foods over slowly, we've never had an issue with changing dry foods over frequently

No way little bastards.
