It's such a pain isn't it! Do any taxis in your area allow dogs? I know some do in mine, some don't though.

I agree with Erny, there is no need to take a dog with CC to a vet unless it develops a secondary bacterial infection. If your dog has a nasal discharge, is very lethargic or off its food a visit to a vet may be necessary, but the vast majority of dogs recover in less then a week with no veterinary intervention. This is my experience too. It bothers the owners a lot more than the dogs I think

Yes I'm quite familiar with the "I am a brat - pander to my needs" bark

I've had loads of people say that Lili my Aussie is too skinny. I tell them that she is 22kg, perfect weight for a female Aussie. A lot of people don't realise that most dogs are a bit overweight!

Yep, after working in a shelter, I realised it can come out of nowhere, one minute the dog is fine, the next **HONK** If you are going to take him to the vet maybe call them before hand so they can move him into a room quickly to try and avoid spreading it. I know it sounds scary but ours have had it and it went away with a little bit of honey and Benadryl Good luck!

Recurring Conjunctivitis?
Dame Aussie replied to Dame Aussie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well we went to the vet last night, he checked for any scratches etc and all was good there. He seems to think it is just irritation to dust etc, the weather in Melbourne has been pretty hot lately and our backyard is a dust pit We asked about ingrown eyelashes and he says its a possibility but very unlikely as this is affecting both eyes. We have some eye drops so will see how we go with them! Thanks for all your advice -

I don't know much about Entropion to be honest, it doesn't look like the eyelid is folded over though, just swollen. -

Yeah it could be, we're going to the vet to get it checked out, I just hope this time it doesn't come back! -
Recurring Conjunctivitis?

Ah ok, his teeth are pretty good, he's under 18 months old, the vet seemed happy with them. The picture below is just what his eye looks like. -

Hi Guys, I feel as though I may aswell be paying my vets mortgage.... About 2 weeks ago we took Mosley (Anatolian Shepherd) to the vet as one of his eyes seemed a bit irritated. The vet had a look and said she could see a tiny scratch so he had cream and anti-inflammatories and all was well. Until.....a couple of days later his OTHER eye started playing up. We cleaned it with salt water and put some cream in and it also cleared up almost overnight. Well last night I noticed that it's happened again!!! It really just looks like very mild conjunctivitis to me. There isn't any gunk and it doesn't seem to be bothering him too much but the bottom is a bit pink and swollen. Does this sound like conjunctivitis? I'm going to see the vet again, but I am worried that even if we keep treating it, it will keep coming back!! Can it be caused by allergies to a plant or dust or something?? He does have a penchant for rolling around in the dirt My other dog hasn't shown the same symptoms and they are both in good health. Any ideas??

Can You Have Multiple Dogs Without One That
Dame Aussie replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hard to tell with our two. Mosley is twice Lilis weight but she definitely bosses him around. Having said that though, if it's in regard to bones/food, Mosley can turn into "Cave Dog" quite quickly. A bit OT I know but can I ask people with two or more dogs, what's the best way to stop the resource guarding behaviour?? -
Thanks everyone, I like the idea of the latex gloves!! I usually use the roller things but they would be cheaper! I think I'll get that glass of wine and start brushin!!!

Can't Even Walk Down My Street!
Dame Aussie replied to Crazy Daisy's topic in General Dog Discussion
God that sounds just like where I used to live I don't mind dogs barking their heads off but there was a Border Collie in our old street that would stand up on the fence (which it could easily have jumped over, but thankfully never did) and growl, bark and snarl at us....that's not cool.... As long as the dogs can't get to you then I don't have an issue. -
Sounds good to me

Can you tell them you need to go home for another reason, someone has had an accident or is not well? I know its dodgy but at least they might let you leave...
-
Very interesting. It seems ludicrous that if The AVA are saying they should be done every 3 years that vets are not complying with this. It's all about money. I only do my animals every 3 years

Can Dogs Recognise Different Breeds?
Dame Aussie replied to mongo1's topic in General Dog Discussion
Interesting question, I've asked my OH what he thinks about this before! I don't think they go into detail when they think of other dogs but I do think they have preferences. For example when Lili was at Puppy Preschool her best mate was a Border Collie cross. She's an Aussie. When she sees little dogs she doesn't want anything to do with them but if she sees any kind of working/herding dog she chases them round like a maniac. My boy Mosley (Anatolian Shepherd) loves EVERY DOG EVER BORN -
Well I'm glad it isn't just Lili! I'll get some footage tonight and post it up
