I agree with everything that has been said. Some people don't realise how well dogs cope. Good to hear the dog has wonderful owners
-
Yep. I've seen puppies who have had a leg amputated and honestly they're up and about a day or two later. They adjust so well

We are really interested in taking Lili somewhere where she can do some herding. Can anyone tell me of any places they know of in Melbourne that do this? I'd love to see her in with some sheep or something, I think she would LOVE it Thanks guys

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
Dame Aussie replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
The breed of dogs that kill is of consequence and should not be discarded. Yes, these dogs did manage to get out due to an irresponsible owner and set out on a killing spree, it was the dogs' decision to kill! How they managed to get into the other property, I have no idea but they obviously heard the barking of those poor chihuahuas and thought all their birthdays had come at once. How many cavaliers or westies out there set out on a rampage and killed other people's pets????? This prick now owns 4 of those animals, pfft pathetic country we live in. You speak about these dogs as if they were humans, "thought all their birthdays had come at once" ?? Yeah, ok, sure that's what they thought "Set out on a killing spree" ?? Emotive enough?? You say you don't advocate BSL, and then in your next sentence you ADVOCATE BSL?! -
:D I often find myself wishing Mosley was a Maltese

Our two are ridiculous Lili will run around and Mo practically mauls her down to the ground, they make a LOT of noise, if he ever gets too rough though she gives him a sharp little warning bark and he backs off Honestly, unless there is blood I wouldn't worry!

Abigail, your comments re: Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Pit Bulls and their crosses are uninformed, clearly unfounded, offensive and really quite embarassing. I can assure you that not EVERY dog of any breed is dog aggressive and the fact that one would actually state this as if it were a fact is beyond me. -

That's horrible varicool, as if it was your fault and you hadn't suffered enough already -
How do you get from the above, that they have done sweet fa about it....??? Because it was reported days ago and the animals are still in the same shocking condition?
-
Unfortunately just another example of a person doing the right thing and then the RSPCA doing sweet **** all about it

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
Dame Aussie replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow! That's a blanket statement. So, you'd agree with the owners' decision to destroy their beautiful Golden Retriever because it bit one of their children? Different story, in case you're wondering. Even though, as it turns out, the GR was found with half of the child's pencil stuffed down its ear canal? And you'd destroy your own dog if it bit someone in the course of protecting you against a threat? Agan I agree, how can we just decide that a dog will definitely attack again//? We like the idea that our dogs would protect us if it came down to it, but we judge them too harshly when they act in the SAME way just because it doesn't suit us in that situation. -

They are staff x's - dozens of these are put down every day, and they haven't attacked and killed other dogs. It is all very well to say that these dogs don't deserve to die, but what can realistically happen to them? No rescue group would ever take them on - the liability would be too much. The owner is a moron and couldn't be trusted to look after them. I know, that's why I started the sentence with "These dogs will be put to sleep". What I want to happen to ALL dogs is not what happens in reality. I am well aware of the amount of animals put down each day, trust me, I would rather it wasn't so, that's all. -
Mosley has a magnificent tail, it's very long, very thick and very bushy. When he's happy the whole back end of him wags. Last night it wagged right into my glass of vino knocking it into the computer ;) All is good but it prompted me to take inventory of our wine glasses....1 left ;) He has a destructo tail! It swings round and destroys whatever is in it's way. Wine glasses, coffee cups, lamps, he literally swipes the whole table clean. I find myself looking at Lilis bob tail longingly and wishing, wishing..... Anyone else with a wild tail kicking around the house? How do you deal with it??! And how many wine glasses have you lost?!

Yep, we call it being "in dog"

I don't know these dogs nor do I know whether they are dog aggressive or whether they were triggered to prey drive. Prey drive is not aggression. It is an instinct that drives the dog, just the same as the instinct for cats to chase and kill other animals. Do we regard cats who kill other animals such as rodents "aggressive"? I don't think so. I am really sad for the owners of the dogs who were killed and of course for the fear and trauma those other dogs would have gone through and who have now lost their lives. I also feel for the owner of the 'offending dogs', even though secure fencing could have prevented this tragedy (and yes, couldn't you just kick the owner for not having ensured this so the event didn't happen at the expense of his dogs lives?). I feel mostly for the dogs, especially (but not only) if they are to be killed for an instinct that doesn't necessarily render them DA. I'll not ever judge a dog to be PTS without knowing the dogs or more details of the incident. Exactly Erny. The owner is the one who is responsible. How can we preach about upbringing being the most important part of a dogs temperament and then blame the dogs when something goes wrong? These dogs will be put to sleep, I would rather, however, that they were rehomed and managed by someone experienced enough to keep them safe. And to the OP, yes this is possible. If the dogs are securely contained there is no reason for them to ever hurt another dog. -
When we got Lili we didn't care what colour she was. We had to pick out of two pups, a red tri and a red merle, we picked the merle, but not just because of the colour. She had the better temperament. I don't think there is anything wrong with choosing for colour though, as long as the breed is one that suits the lifestyle it can't hurt. For example, My OH wants an Amstaff but will not get a red one as his first dog was a red Amstaff and he would be reminded of him all the time

Our little chi x had a couple of what we thought were fits. Apparently epilepsy is quite hard to diagnose in dogs and the vet told us only to worry if it happens quite frequently, ie: once a month or more often. When he had his fits he would just freeze, stare and tremble and drool. It only went for a minute or so and afterwards he was fine but exhausted. I think if nothing has happened in 9 months you should be ok, but keep an eye out and if you notice anything take him to the vet. Our old boy is 13 now and hasn't had a fit in years

What Don't Most People Know About Your Breed?
Dame Aussie replied to RallyValley's topic in General Dog Discussion
LOL - I have had people ask me if i've shaved Sophie! Because she's not fluffy enough to be a German Sheperd? Or asked me what she's crossed with to not be blacker. Sigh. SHES A PEDIGREE GERMAN SHEPERD! And no, Chase's blue eye does not make him a Husky. Lol. WTF!? Haha, I got asked all the time when Lottie was a pup if she was a Husky and if not SURELY she's crossed with one!!! Yup. Apparently Huskys are the only breed ever to have blue eyes -
