As did I Yep, I guess you could be right, it was a bit confusingly expressed in some parts. Google tells me he's making a doco about dingoes too - http://if.com.au/2011/08/09/inprod/Dingo---Wild-Dogs-At-War/VCVTYPIRUD.html , he does get around Dog help us!

Huh, that is.... interesting. I suppose it's the 'teach a dog to bark so you can teach him to shush' philosophy, but I'm not a fan. I have dogs that pull on the jog to the park and not on the way back, and the way down I get much more of a sore back and calves than being able to jog at my own pace on the way back. I also had a trainer once who had huskies and said that taking them sledding made training a loose lead walk muuuch more difficult I agree tho that he seems to be taking this onslaught of passionate dog ladies on his FB and email quite well See I see some of his comments as feigning politeness more than actual politeness. As did I

I couldn't care less if he's nice or not, I have a livestock guarding dog and people are freaked out enough by his size, I don't need some loser off Big Brother telling everyone they're "savage", my dog is the biggest sook I've ever met. He is an idiot.

Kote Glo No Rinse Dog & Puppy Shampoo

I don't like the idea of leaving residue/chemicals/soap in a dogs coat. Surely it would have an effect on their skin? -
Agree

I'm so over Vets saying you shouldn't feed bones etc. It's absolute rubbish as far as I'm concerned. Maybe give your pup bigger bones like shanks, lamb necks etc if you are worried about the size, and as others have said take the food off him if he isn't eating it. He will eat when he is hungry. Good luck with it!

I think of it as part of them, a quirk that makes them special

Pomeranian Puppy Toilet Terror/ Am I Going Mad?
Dame Aussie replied to Cattleya's topic in Puppy Chat
Wow. She's a baby. I'd be happy she's going outside at all rather than worrying about what surface is acceptable. A baby puppy does not understand that mulch is not acceptable and grass is..... Give her a break. -
I don't think it's essential. Personally I'm not a fan of crate training, my dogs were toilet trained by taking them out every hour, they learnt very quickly. They travel really well in the car and are fine going to places like the vets or other peoples' houses. I just didn't see a need for it. Everyone's situation is different though and if you think it will be of benefit then go for it.

This is true pointers are rare-ish and pedigree puppies can range from $500-$1500 ($1500 being very rarely the case especially for pets) I would have thought labs were around the $1000 $1200 mark but then i dont think many or any pedigree dogs should go for less than around the $1000 mark these days because really in the grand scheme it isnt that exspensive and it can cost quite alot for a breeder to do what they do! Pointers are one breed I had in mind when I said that. Lovely dogs, but I don't think they are in the public eye enough so the average Joe doesn't really know much about Pointers! I think Aussie Shepherds were in the same boat a few years ago but their popularity has risen in recent years, as has the price tag (someone please correct me if I'm wrong ) Yeah I'd agree with that. When we got Lili (Aussie) 3 years ago we paid $600 but now they're far more than that and just recently I've started seeing them around a lot more.

My two get shanks, lamb necks, chicken carcasses, chicken wings, legs etc. We freeze the bones first to slow them down and make them last longer. Not every time, but sometimes one of them will have a spew the next moring and I'll find a bit of bone that they couldn't digest but I don't worry too much. Recently we weren't able to get many bones and I could see the difference in their teeth just after a couple of weeks! So I'll always feed them bones, plus they love it! :D

hehe CW EW did you know MrB actually bought his stepchild (Bubby) a bottle of truffle oil! Bubby is MAD about the stuff and is beside himself when he has leftover risotto or frittata drizzled with truffle oil. It was MrB's plan to get him some when he reached retirement age (10 years). In lieu of all the sad Dol stories we have been hearing lately, MrB went off and got Bubby his own bottle, as life is rather short and you never know. Every week I make him scrambled or poached eggs with a teaspoon of truffle oil on it and he is in heaven!!!!! That's great!!

Thanks for all the replies guys Much appreciated... Its great to see all the different combinations and how they work together. Now to decide on a breed..... Is it normal that I have about 20 on my shortlist??

Clipping A Double Coated Breed
Dame Aussie replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What the?! The way I see it, they have that coat for a reason, to help with temperature control. I have also seen some dogs whose hair has not grown back properly and that worries me in regards to the coat not being able to do what it is meant to. Its up to you but I wouldn't do it. I think with a Lab it would still be very hard to see a tick as they have such short, thick hair as it is. I don't live in a tick area though so I may feel differently if I did? -
I wouldn't go out of my way to introduce pup to other dogs. For the first few walks I think it's good to keep pup calm and keep the walk short as it can be quite overwhelming for them, when Lili was little she was terrified of cars/bikes etc. When we walk ours we generally keep them away from other dogs unless we get talking, then we let them have a sniff. Have fun!! :D

Rubbish. I have an Anatolian and he is anything but savage, thats bloody laughable.
-
Yep, and it's my boy also. Lili is a complete starvo, she will eat ANYTHING and often does. She has almost taken off my fingers for a leaf of baby spinach Mosley, however, will delicately sniff everything you offer him, decide if its something he would like to try and then gingerly take it from you with his front teeth, drop it on the floor, sniff again and then eat it. The other night he was snoozing on the couch and woke up when I gave him a corn chip,he lifted his head, looked at it, then went back to sleep. He did eat it sometime during the night though

Hi all Ive been away for quite a while but alas, I couldn't stay away from the knowledge of DOL for too long. We are looking at getting a third dog and I wanted to get some opinions on what sex to go with. The way I see it, it comes down to personality moreso than sex but I wanted to get a bit of an idea of what people with more than 2 dogs have done. At the moment we have Lili, 3 year old Aussie, friendly with other dogs but can be quite reserved with strange people and grumpy if her ball is stolen....and Mosley, almost 3 yrs old, Anatolian/Maremma, independent, great with every other dog I've ever seen him with but can be a bit of a cave dog (not with us, but with other dogs) when it comes to protecting his bone. Both desexed and pretty chilled out in general. We haven't decided what we want yet or whether we will be going to a breeder or rescue but we have a few ideas...just a few (like a million.) Anyway, enough of my rambling, I look forward to any and all opinions!! Thanks guys!

Agree 100%

Thanks guys, I have checked it out and it's just a pink colour, no sign of infection that I can see but I'll have the vet check to be sure.
-
So Mosley hurt his foot last Sunday, we went to the vet and got some pain relief, cream and vetwrap and have been cleaning it and applying cream a few times a day. I'm worried though, what at first looked like a cut now looks like a big chunk has come off one of his pads. He is a bucket head at the moment and a very unhappy one at that! I'm just worrying as it isn't healing very fast, I'm going to take him back to the vet tomorrow but was just wondering I'd anyone else has had a similar issue? The poor boy, it looks so painful. Last night he was rubbing it on the carpet which made me think it might be itchy and therefore healing, I dont know though! Any experiences and advice is appreciated, thanks guys
