Could it just be a cold? I know when Lili had kennel cough a few months ago her breathing sounded a bit like that. But you'd know if was KC. Good luck at the vets

Do You Still Vaccinate An Old Dog?
Dame Aussie replied to Mum to Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thank you, and I was to know this how? Many many people have had their dogs titre tested, the results have come back inconclusive and they have been told (and believe) their dogs have low immunity when there really is no way of knowing this from the titre test. Unless we keep them in glass boxes they're going to be "exposed". I didn't do any judging so sorry you jumped to that conclusion, but I would be incredibly reluctant to continue to vaccinate a dog who's immune system is already seriously compromised. That's MY belief. If I wasn't a nurse in a extremely high parvo area - I may have agreed with you. Sorry if I jumped down your throat Paige has only recently been rediagnosed with cancer and i'm a little touchy about anything to do with her. I have never seen an issue, I've seen hundreds of dogs that are vaccinated from puppy to elderly and not had an issue. Almost every vet i have worked with recommends yearly vacc but doesn't push it IF the owner has valid reasoning. Parvo in our area is rampant and is the really nasty strain that even vaccinated dogs are catching it (no where near as badly however) That's awful to hear and a completely valid reason to be vaccinating vigilantly! I guess I'll just stick with the advice of my vet, they're the ones that study medicine for 4/5 years and have the knowledge and the know in regards to vaccs and disease etc. Only problem here is the vets in Australia are far behind the ones in the US and other countries. We are one of the only countries that still recommends yearly vaccinations. -
What Are The Different Breed That You Have?
Dame Aussie replied to TC001's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have a female Australian Shepherd and a male Anatolian Shepherd mix. They get along great, we want a third dog(not yet!!), in the future, and are tossing up on what sex to get but I really think it depends more on the dogs personality and how it will fit in with your existing dog/s. ETA: Ages: Aussie is 3.5 yrs and Anatolian is 3 yrs. -
Have We Got Our Priorities Right?
Dame Aussie replied to Blonde_Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with most of what you have said. It does seem that we hear about all the negatives rather than the ANKC promoting purebred dogs, whether they be for show or for pets. I would also like to see, not from the ANKC but just in general, more promotion of rescuing dogs, cross breeds and purebreds, it has gotten better in the last few years though I must say, and more and more people are rescuing dogs rather than buiying from pet shops etc. -
Yes, yoghurt is something most dogs love, you could try adding some to her food but as perse said you need to be careful that she doesn't start "waiting" for something better! When you're that cute it's very easy to be manipulative

Good to hear sujo.

I never understand why people get a dog and then seperate it from themselves....what's the point. Dogs are pack aniamls, it is natural for them to sleep and be with their companions. We have a dog next door that barks every night for hours on end and I tell you what, it drives me mental, that's not fair on the dog or your neighbours. Maybe your husband needs to think about the reason you got the dog in the first place. I can't imagine it could do that much damage in a crate or a small room??

Do You Still Vaccinate An Old Dog?
Dame Aussie replied to Mum to Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ours are both 3 years old now and had their puppy vaccs, one at 12 months and one at 2 years, I am going to titre test them this year and hopefully never vaccinate again. -
Splurked my coffee....That is gold. I dont have any other advice than what's already been given claireybell, sorry, the only time we had a poo and spew explosion was when we had floorboards....thank Dog!

So horrible police make me sick sometimes, I'd call the council and different stations to see if you get any joy

Yes Belle would do it even more when she was anxious, it really seemed to calm her down so we didn't always stop her, she also did this strange biting thing on rugs and blankets, very highly strung wee girl With her, it got to the point that you would look down at your arm and realise she'd been licking away like a mad thing for 20 minutes, it was just normal!

I've seen beautiful decorative ones made into chests with a space underneath.....they look great...I'd say they'd cost a bomb though
-
I don't like using crates myself but I have no problem with others using them. I doubt many people will even comment on it.

One of the wee Chi's we had as kids (Still going strong at 16!!) is a licking freak!!! She will lick you till your skin is soggy I have no real advice sorry, we could only ever stop her for a little while, then she'd start again

*nods* eyes, ears, teeth, skin folds,...all sorts of things . No way!! That's $%@!# up! I also don't really get the ear taping either to be honest. If people want to do it, of course it's up to them, go for it, but it just seems unfortunate that WE project our issues to do with "perfection" onto them when they're beautiful the way they are. Just my 2 cents though, I think your puppy is going to be gorgeous whether the taping works or not. Ummm no it isn't. If a dog has saggy facial skin that affects it's eyes, cause skin fold infections, to gibe it a facelift and correct those issues is not F%$ked up it is doing the best for your dog. It is not done for vanity it is done for medical reasons. Woah....I thought it was obvious I was referring to having it done for asthetic reasons. \ I wouldnt have an issue with it being done for health reasons.

I would get some old rugs or carpet scraps and just lay them over the existing carpet. You can usually find offcuts for pretty cheap or check second hand stores and sites like gumtree for old rugs. Your dog sounds very loved

Some more Red for the thread :D

Ava is so beautiful

There seems to be a few admirers of the Aussies among the Lappie people I know. If I had known about Aussies before I got a Lappie it might have been a very difficult decision! They'd go well with a Lappie ;) I already want a Lappie as my next dog

Long Rant About A Scary Guy At An On Leash Oval
Dame Aussie replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is why I only walk my dogs in the street, loads of crazies in parks, what a jerk. -
Here's more of my spunk :D I don't think their personalities are any different from the ones that I've met.
-
Happy to be corrected. I've never heard of that happening before.

Would You Take A Class In Reading Dog Body Language?
Dame Aussie replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it's a good idea and depending in the content I would definitely consider attending something like that. -
This is why I don't go to off leash parks, there is SOOOO much room for error. Personally, if I thought my dog might have a go at another dog rushing it, I wouldn't take my dog there, it may not be my fault but you know what some people are like  . Especially when it's a big dog. People are very scared of Mosley when we take him out, some are ok and want to pet him but others are quite worried, just because he's big. Big dogs always seem to lose out when it comes to who was at fault IYKWIM? I stopped going to off lead parks ages ago as I was sick of my dogs being attacked/rushed at, a lot of people who frequent these parks do not have effective control over their dogs, and because of that we have to be so much more careful. Technically, if your dog is on lead and another dog is the one rushing I think it's their fault for not having their dog under control. ETA: Spelling and sense....my heads away!
