Career In Something To Do With Dogs
Dame Aussie replied to Leelaa17's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gah.... All I ever wanted to do was be a vet nurse.....I did it but unfortunately could not survive/pay my mortgage on the pittance they call a wage, and yes people will come in to have their dog put down for no good reason. If you can put up with that and live on what they pay, then go for it. I also worked in a pound/shelter. Let me tell you now it was no kind of fun. Very depressing, very hectic and you pretty much lose all faith in humanity. I had to leave, a few people I worked with also either left or completely burnt out. A boarding kennel or grooming would be good, but keep in mind you are always going to come across animals that are not as well looked after as your own and that will always be upsetting. -
Oh he's gorgeous T!!

I'm not going to judge people for doing what they think is best, but I will say that if I were a breeder and had white pups (which had a chance of being deaf) I would not PTS. I would either keep or give away to good homes, whatever I could not give away I would keep. If that meant lots of dogs and I couldn't breed more, then so be it.

Reminds me of once when we had some friends over and were having a BBQ. A sausage fell off the plate and before I could even bend down to pick it up......snaffled. It was Lili, of course. She ate it so quickly and it was so hot that she just threw it all back up instantly....then ate it again  I love how feral dogs are

These are pretty much my reasons too. We put money away that we would spend on insurance into an account instead and have a credit card for emergencies.
-
Yep, I'd be hooking up surveillance, padlocking/double padlocking every gate and keeping the dogs inside.

Lili will catch ANYTHING. From ANYWHERE. She's like a ninja. Mo however, well he's lucky to even see it coming lol he'll hoover it up eventually though

 That's adorable

Sounds good donatella, at least this way she can't destroy anything and you can work with her. I second doing NILIF, it helped me with my two who were both a bit big for their boots

Bahahahahhahahahaa that's hilarious  -
Nawww look at her, is she grumpy?

Thanks guys. She is weight bearing on both legs, but every now and then when she trots I can see just the teeniest bit of favouring. Will keep her as still as possible till we get to the vet...and after :)

 Reminds me of the time Lili got the remains of a roast chicken out of the rubbish..... When she saw me coming over she tried to gobble it up as quick as she could, little pig
-
At least she's cute as a button ;)
-
Good idea. I'll get the kongs out tomorrow! I've been giving her a big bone when I leave and that keeps her still for quite a while!
-
Thanks Flick_Mac, we haven't been doing any walking and she's not AS bad as I thought she would be  So we'll keep it at that till we get to the vet I think. Thanks for the replies guys

Ok, thanks HW :)

Lili hurt her leg chasing the ball a few days ago. No crying/yelping, she just ran back holding up her front right leg. We haven't been walking her or throwing the ball for her in the hopes it will improve, but today I noticed there is still a very slight limp. I've felt the leg and she is fine with me touching it, she is walking fine, I've just noticed every now and then there is a slight limp. barely even noticeable and she is not holding back with anything as usual  I've booked her into the vets later this week but was wondering what we should do in regards to exercise (or lack thereof) in the meantime, we won't be playing fetch or anything but should we keep her completely still, ie: no running/playing? She is an Aussie, a ball obsessed one one at that, and she is a NIGHTMARE without lots of exercise so I'm hoping it's just a sprain or something..... Any opinions greatly appreciated, thanks guys. :)

Dont Exercise Around Your Animals.

Same, they will just kiss me constantly, jump all over me ansd generally be annoying. -
Yeah I never assume breeders make much profit from their pups. Just ignore them LP. :) *walks away from thread slowly as now I want another Aussie puppy*

Possibly because the toy might be bought and taken home to a puppy that's still largely house-bound because it's not fully vaccinated? Yep, if you took a toy that had an unvaccinated dogs saliva on it you could be putting young pups at risk. Really, the toy shouldn't have been on the floor in the first place though.

If the owner is having trouble teaching his dog a recall then shouldn't he be checking his equipment regularly? I hardly think it's fair to blame the OP for something she had no control over and that's all I was getting at in my post.
