Totally agree, worth a visit. Good luck!

SIGH, you may as well do this. The same people who are asking for this poor dog to get a chance & saying the breed shouldn't be reported in the media, are the same ones who have a different opinion when it comes to "other breeds". The media will go out of their way to try & pin all attacks on certain breeds, because it whips up hysteria & gets them better ratings. Unfortunately not much mileage out of a cute family dog attack. Have to agree, while I'm happy for any dog to get a second chance, there seems to be some pretty clear double standards at work. Case 1: Pit Bull x attacks small child - dog is PTS and all Pit Bull types banned Case 2: Goldie attacks it's own family - gets training and a nice new home....

I don't have any sympathy for someone who says most of the people in this thread don't care about their dogs.

Greytmate... Your mentioned above comments concerning Percynality and his/hers situation, I find rather disgusting, MAYBE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF LOVE!. Here is an individual that obviously loved their pet very deeply, but unfortunate circumstances led to that situation. I have 2 small dogs, I treat them like my children as well. I've been observing other comments in this thread. Percynality is correct; 'Pets are the new children'. People like you, don't want to hear this, and I know the reason why! I know for fact, The Vet Industry are full of callus individuals, just like the Nurses in hospitals that give better treatment to some but not to all. Maybe you should take a good look at yourself and grow up.

Yeah....I wouldn't be picking any animal up by it's tail. Pulling it out of a burrow or something to keep it from danger is one thing, but otherwise...no.

MIne have all loved anything furry and squeaky as puppies, and adults

I am having trouble understanding why you refused the option to have your dog treated at a vet hospital if he was so sick, and requested euthanasia instead of a second opinion. Vet hospitals are like people hospitals. They have their own pathology labs and so can do the testing that a normal vet cannot do on public holidays. How would taking your dog to a better equipped vet be about prolonging charges? You would be paying the charges to a different vet. I can understand that sometimes the best care might be unaffordable, and sometimes taking out insurance is a good option. Small dogs are really no different from big dogs in their behaviour. Some small dogs are prone to separation anxiety, and some large ones are as well. If you had this problem with your last dog, and suspect that your current dog has this problem too, you might want to get some advice from a trainer or behaviourist. Dogs are much happier if they can learn to cope with separation from their owners at times. Dogzonline is a great place to learn all about dog problems and behaviour because there are so many knowledgeable people here. We can all learn to be better dog owners by listening to advice from qualified and very experienced people. There wouldn't be a single person here who would be unsympathetic to what happened to Percy. But very few people here would agree with what you have said in this thread or give support for your unusual ideas about dog welfare. If you own a dog, you have legal obligations to provide for its welfare, as well as legal obligations to ensure it causes no harm to others. That is how it works in Australia. If you are uncomfortable with that, you are not ready to own a dog Dog owners have to be responsible. Vets have legal obligations and responsibilities as well. It is always horrible to lose a dog so I can see why you are so upset I have to also ask though, why didn't you take up the option to have the dog taken to hospital when you were given that option?

I agree, for me it's how much damage the dog can possibly do, not the breed.

Deleted to be nice

Yeah we get the same with Lili who has a natural bob tail.
-
There are a lot of Rottis with tails around these days, same with Boxers.

So your dogs could be in a crate for 16 hours (8 overnight and 8 while you're at work) in one day? That just seems nuts to me, I'm not trying to be rude but I just don't think that can be enjoyable for a dog?
-
I'm the same, my dogs only mix with other dogs we know. I stay away from all off leash areas and my dogs are happy as Larry. I don't get this idea that dogs HAVE TO play with other strange dogs....
-
Agree with above. I have never owned a dog in my life that slept 20 hours a day, even when they were old they were awake for more than 4 hours. For 5 hours or so a large crate is more acceptable than risking getting shot, as a temporary measure if no other option. Me neither, I WISH my dogs slept 20 hours a day lol

Bahahahaha love it! I know they're adorable, little mini eggs of fluff!!
-
Leaving a dog in a crate for hours without water does not sit right with me at all. But then I don't use them at all. I would try and confine him to a room/area with bedding and water.

 Love it! So true!

Hi Guys! We want to go on a short break and bring the dogs with us, thinking of up in the Dandenongs.... I'm doing all the googling one can muster and have found a few possibilites but thought I'd check here (DOL knows all) to see if anyone had any recommendations for dog friendly properties in that area? Especially if anyone has stayed in one they really liked or knows of one with a good rep! Thanks heaps! :)

We bought a "female" rabbit which I named Sweet Pea, and a "Male" Guinea Pig which my brother named Coloured. Sweet Pea and Coloured were more than just friends IYKWIM and would hump on the odd occasion, and one day we woke up to find itsy bitsy baby Guinea Pigs in the hutch.....of course I thought that they had babies together (I was about 7) but then Mum informed me that Coloured, who was obviously a girl must have been pregnant in the pet shop  We called the babies Snowy (white) and Coloured No 2 (coloured)

The Strangest Thing Just Happened Here
Dame Aussie replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
So would I, my first thought was that they may have fed him something nasty. That is very scary, I second CCTV. Stay safe and keep the dogs with you at all times. -
That depends on the neighbours and the layout of the land. With my neighbours I just 'caught' them when I saw them outside in their yards. Wave over the fence and have a yarn. Or when others were outside the front of their homes. I had no problems with being able to do that but I guess if I didn't get to catch them, I'd be inclined to drop a friendly note in the letter box . Yeah I did drop a note introducing us and included our number in case the dogs were ever a nuisance, no response. That was months ago when we first moved in. These neighbors are hermits, barely ever leave the house, Isaw one of them once over the fence and said hi but they just skulked off without a word....I wish I had normal neighbors lol
-
And IMO that comes back down to the owners - they should say "hi" to their neighbours when they get a dog and invite their neighbours to contact them should their dog prove a nuisance. What would you have done if one of your neighbours wouldn't answer the door?

I forgot some of mine!! My parents had a cat called Cat before I was born, she was old and grumpy when I was a baby and she almost took my eye out one day, total bitch  Other cats we had were Blackie (original) and Rascal. My first dog was a Boxer who we got when I was about 2, his name was Maxwell The Amazing Maxlo....Max for short :) We had rats called Neo (yes, The Matrix  ) and Adrian/Ade after Adrian Edmondson (Vivian in The Young Ones) and I had 2 mice named Merrick & Rosso. Unfortunately Merrick was a complete sociopath and had to be returned to the pet store He was attacking Rosso and anyone who tried to touch him. Rosso, however, lived a long life and used to build mansions from bits of torn up newspaper :) Oh and I had a rabbit called Sweet Pea....a male  and another budgie called Punkin :)
