What To Do When Your Dog Is Scared At The Park?
Dame Aussie replied to Bear&Duke's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep! -
This is my dilemma, I'm just delaying getting another one as I can't choose

Interesting. They are going to determine lineage for your dog on the day of a show. Obviously a lot of research into your dogs parents is going to occur there. I wonder how many might match the standard but are not actually pure. Yes and I could make my own registry for three legged dogs and can provide pedigree papers. This doesn't automatically mean that two of my new breed will produce three legged pups. As such even though there is a registry and pedigree papers provided doesn't mean they are a pure breed. At least with ANKC or FCI registries there is a governing body to ensure the registry is maintained to a certain standard. As such the pedigree papers issued via these bodies means the dog must be pure as its parents must also be pure and so forth throughout the dogs lineage. If pedigree papers are issued "on the day" providing your dog meets the standard according to one individual, then there really isn't a guarantee about the purity of the dog. This approach only serves to further confuse members of the public as to what actually constitutes a pure breed and pedigree papers, but then isnt that what the breeders of designer dogs have been trying to do - confuse the uninformed so they will believe whatever you want them to believe. The American Bulldog isn't a designer dog. They have bred true for a very long time and are recognised in other countries. All registries can be criticised including the ANKC. It doesn't mean that ANKC breeds are substandard.

Very well said. Yes, totally agree with this.
-
I'd say a Bichon if they want no shedding.
-
Totally agree with you both. My dogs are treated like royalty but they still know their place and how to behave....most of the time lol I think the whole dominance theory is crap.
-
I nursed for a short time so I should know really lol but we never used anything above a C5
-
Thanks Alkhe, shows how often my dogs get vaccinated  Can you even vaccinate against a bacteria?
-
I didn't even know there was a C6? I've only ever given C3...

This was my first thought, it seems strange for an adult dog to lose their toilet training all of a sudden? I would be taking him to the vet for a check up first and go from there. If everything on the health front is ok, you may need to just retrain him, take him out as often as possible when you're there, and when you aren't home have him crated. Could your Nanna let him out of the crate every hour for a toilet break?

My big, intimidating dog who barks at people walking past the house would probably run away. If I was really lucky he might come back to check why I was screaming Strangely enough my cute, sweet younger dog (medium sized) would probably try to protect me. Her protective instincts seem to be stronger (most likely related to breed) but she's less likely to be a deterrant. That's interesting wuffles, as my female Aussie is also more likely to be protective than my big guard dog  She is far more wary of strange people and you should hear the bark on her

Motel Refuses Entry To Blind Man With Guide Dog.

People are so shit -
You start reading /watching now , so that when it does happen, you are confident and have some ideas to put into practice. if you do a search on here there are lots of useful threads ....and if you can, before you actually put your name on a dog , I suggest you volunteer at a nearby shelter - so you do get to handle large and small dogs/witness altercations, and learn HEAPS about body language - everything from submission to fearful aggression, to calm, to aggression. It will help you a lot, I think. Experience is a very valuable tool on which to draw. Haha yes the brindle did worry me! As I had only ever had the association of brindle with 'pigging' dogs, which to me was alarming  Of course in reality, there are plenty of lovely brindle dogs, turned out the dog was one of them. I find body language of animals, in particular dogs and horses, extremely interesting. Thanks for the idea :) Anatolians can be brindle too :) Mine is, and I've been told he looks more intimidating because of it, very interesting, I have no idea why. All I see is a big silly boofer

I agree with Nekhbet.

I doubt anyone would approach us while walking our Anatolian. Most people avoid us at all costs. I do believe he would freak out if anyone came towards us acting aggressively, but I don't depend on that and I could be totally wrong. You will never know if a dog will ctually do anything until it does, or doesnt.... I don't think a TM (or similar guarding breed) would cope well with people visiting the house while you are away at all, so be very aware of that. To be honest, a lot of people are scared/wary of any breed bigger than a Lab in my experience. To them a giant dog is giant yes, but a big dog can do damage so I don't think the dog has to be giant to be a good protector, a lot of people are terrified of GSD's and Rotti's for example.

Where do these people come from?!!

 classic I had Lili on my lap on the way home from her breeders and she just slept like a little angel, however next pup we get will be restrained in the back. It's not safe to have them unrestrained. Our two are always harnessed in when they go in the car now too.

Must Ask Questions When Buying A Puppy
Dame Aussie replied to Online Pets's topic in General Dog Discussion
This covered all the questions I thought of too -
Yikes! Stay away
-
It seems a bit crap, but if it was there in the fine print I don't know that they could really do anything? Hopefully I'm wrong though, what a disappointment for them

I don't have a preference, I've had 3 male dogs and 2 females in my lifetime and I honestly can't say I prefer either.
