So true SL, you just don't hear as much about the good stories, like the Pit Bull that saved it's owners life and was hit by a train. Amazing, but it doesn't sell as many newspapers. What a gorgeous story, makes me remember why I love dogs so much :) Thanks for posting

BSL is not and never will be the answer. There are good dogs in every breed and bad dogs in EVERY breed. It is not fair to blindly ban or put restrictions on large breeds of dogs simply due to their size. For instance in one gov report i read online a few years back there were more then 38 000 registered GSDs and what percentage of them attacked? .02%. Is it fair to place restrictions on the other thousands of dog owners of the breed and similar breeds just because a handful of people cannot train, socialise or handle their dogs properly? The world's first face transplant was performed on a lady due to her Labrador attacking her if memory serves correctly. Due to that attack then should there be restictions placed on the other thousands of labs due to the actions of a minority? You can have the most perfect fence in the world to keep the dogs in but if the owners are lazy or just generally don't give a damn they won't care if they leave the front gate open for said dog to wonder out. It comes down to individual responsibility, you can punish those who are already responsible and try to make those who are not comply, but if people are not going to be bothered containing their dog the best fences in the world won't help. Totally agree. It is posts like the bolded one above that cause the problems in the first place. Labs can bite too you know. I'm done with this thread, the uninformed rot that's coming from some posters is making me ragey.

$2600 to treat some worms? That sounds ridiculously expensive?! What was the actual parasite?

Were the Rottweilers papered dogs bred by an experienced Rottweiler breeder who breeds to type or were they BYB's or perhaps crossbreeds?? Not sure what difference this would make? From their posts it seems m-sass believes that as long as a dog is a purebred, bred by a responsible breeder there is no chance it could attack. Only cross bred, BYB "landsharks" do that.
-
The idea of BSL is to eliminate the types of dogs who killed poor little Ayen so when the owners do drop the ball they don't own the type of dog that will go on a killing spree with uncontrollable aggression. There is a good reason why the types of dogs, Pitbull's, Mastiff's etc and cross breeds of these types of dogs are not used by professionals in protection and guarding, there is a reason professionals use GSD's Rottweiler's, Belgian Shepherd's because they have the stability, intelligence and trainability to be a safer option in the community........I am not against people owning dogs for a protective purpose, but they need to get a proper one bred with the stability for that type of role, not the progeny of uncontrollable landsharks from a BYB offered for sale in the Trading Post, crap dogs like this are accidents waiting to happen and ultimately the death of other animals and sadly people/kids. The last person killed in WA by dog attack was an elderly woman mauled to death by a couple of neighbours Rottweilers that were roaming. Were the Rottweilers papered dogs bred by an experienced Rottweiler breeder who breeds to type or were they BYB's or perhaps crossbreeds?? You do know that a well bred dog also has the capacity to bite too don't you? There is no guarantee with any type of dog, well bred or not. Oh and not all cross bred dogs are "crap". My beautiful rescue boy is not "crap".

Do People With Full Coated Breeds Use Coats In Winter?
Dame Aussie replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
What I don't understand is why my dogs shed so much at this coldest time? Stevie produced a whole other dog's worth of undercoat today! She does this every year. This is the first winter I've put coats on my 6yo girls, they just seem a bit stiffer and crunchier in the joints this winter. Yep, I brushed Mosley the other day for about 3 minutes and I swear to Dog, there was enough undercoat to fill a doona -
 Weasels! Your dog is so obese But seriously, my Aussie is the same, she would fade away to nothing if I didn't feed her as much as I do

Maui Going To The Vets Next Week.

Oh poor Maui, I hope the op goes well and he recovers quickly :) -
Horrible, and as with a lot of attacks, very easily avoided. Dogs should have been locked up and kid should not have been allowed anywhere near them in the first place.

This is getting more and more common, do you know if there was a noise complaint? How devastating, I feel for them and the poor dogs -
I agree with this. If we can't even stop humans from attacking one another, how can we expect them to control their dogs too? As was said earlier, you can't cure stupid. No matter how much we educate there will always be people who don't care. Best thing to do is punish the owners, not the dogs.

So Sick Of Uncontrollable Dogs..
Dame Aussie replied to kitkatswing's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's just not on. Glad you are both ok, and you did the right thing by yelling at the dog. Some people are just idiots, there's nothing else to it. -

Ours are both double coated and Lili gives me the evil eye if I try to put anything on her, so nope. They do sleep inside though. -
Sounds great Steve :)

Great idea! Even just a nice card from everyone sent out to one person and forwarded on would be nice. Let us know what we can do Steve

Yes...I have a spoilt goldie who whines if I don't look at her. It starts with a really slow pitiful sound. And yes, she does get eye contact when she does that. My other dog would keep looking at me with soleful eyes till I look at him. I give in to that too. This is my dogs, Lili will just stare at me till I look at her, she's intense  , and Mo will stare at me and if I don't look over paw at me.

I didn't like that it asked me to choose my "favourite" dog I don't have a favourite  Answered to the best of my ability but it won't be very accurate.

Wonder how many people attacked other people in the year, bet it's more than 20......

I actually think thats not a bad idea, kind of like a public liability policy. I would have thought that this girl would have legal grounds to sue the owners of the dogs regardless of whether they have insurance. I know on the farm, if one of our cows causes an accident or mauls someone then we would get sued pretty damn quick...that's why we have farm insurance. Why is it different for dog owners I would have thought that it might even come under the dog owners household insurance public liability. When I worked in home insurance there was public liability included for animal attacks, they may not have home insurance though. Does seem strange that she has no recourse whatsoever
