Why Is Pet Insurance So Restrictive?
Dame Aussie replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
Insurance is a con. For some people it can end up being very useful but more often than not people pay premiums year after year and never get anything for it. Trust me, I worked in insurance and they will do pretty much anything to get out of paying a claim. It's a business and they have to minimize their risk as much as possible. We put money into an account instead of pay a premium and we have a credit card for emergencies that exceed that amount. -
Its quite sad that you seem to need attention and can only get it by baiting people over the Internet. Ignoring from now on, why did it take me so long?! Very sad incident, I hope the victims recover.

How Much Does Your Dog Sleep?
Dame Aussie replied to Esky the husky's topic in General Dog Discussion
 Sounds like you need some greyhounds Aussie. I have a t-shirt that says "Adopt a greyhound...lose a couch" :) I've already told my OH that we're getting a greyhound next  -
How Much Does Your Dog Sleep?
Dame Aussie replied to Esky the husky's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mine are up with the sun. They have a nap mid morning and mid arvo but only for a hour or so each time. Then I'm usually up once a night to let them out. They are very active -
Hard to say, it could be from an experience or as wuffles said sometimes they just have strange reactions. Lili will bolt out of the room if I open a soft drink bottle, she's never been hit with one  I hope he's feeling better now :)

Concerns About Other Persons 'playing' Style With My Staffy Pu
Dame Aussie replied to staffyowner1971's topic in Puppy Chat
Yeah I would just tell him you are working on her biting and don;t want any play that could encourage it at the moment or something along those lines. Luna is the name my Mother in Law gave the SBT we bought her :) -

I'll probably get shot down but I agree with Christina. I totally understand how a baby would take everything out of a new Mum, and Dad, but I honestly cannot imagine myself seeing my dogs as just another thing to deal with. I could see myself getting frustrated with them sure, hell I do now with no baby , but I would never just lose interest in them and their needs. Who knows, I could feel totally different if I was a new Mum, but I don't think so, and I hope not. It's not the dogs fault your circumstances have changed and I feel a bit sorry for them. Booge I also feel sorry for you as this is obviously making you feel really guilty. As for advice, there's been some great suggestions so far, I would just hope that after a while she gets her interest in the dogs back, in the meantime ads long as you do as much as possible with them they should be ok. Luckily dogs are pretty flexible creatures :)

Look up NILIF on the forum, probably in the training thread. It's a good program to get the dog back into line :) He is a teenager though so this is when they start testing you, it's normal IMO, but you should nip it in the bud now.

Oh no I'm so sorry teebs, Atlas was my favourite DOL dog. Thinking of you. So sorry.

Yes they still haven't shown the dog, and different people keep referring to different breeds...complete joke. A fine isn't enough, jail would go further towards warning people what they could face if they have a dog that does something like this. From different stories I've read it sounds like the dog was kept pretty tough and I dare say not socialized or cared for properly. The whole thing is just tragic.

Im glad youve seen another vet and have some meds, I really hope they decrease her seizures :) good luck
-
Totally agree with Sandra, he's maturing and temperaments, or more what dogs will put up with, can change. He gave warnings to the oodle, it was out of line, not Gus. I wouldn't be too upset/worried but don't let him off lead with any dog as was said. :)

 good work!! We drove past a woman walking a greyhound the other day and as we were slowly passing it took a great big dump on the footpath and the woman just kept walking!! So my OH rolled the window down and shouted out " I guess you've guy a bag for that sh*t?!?" Classic, she was embarrassed, as she should have been with her little girl on the other side, what a great example to set
-
I would be getting the tests done and trying medication, you can't just let her have seizures like that, it isn't fair on the dog. Hearing other people's stories might give you a better understanding but it won't change anything, I think you need to see another vet asap.
-
Yes I think you need to go to another vet and get some tests done, and at least try medication, as HW said every seizure just causes more damage. Good luck with it.

APBT's, one of the 'dogs' people are fighting over, are a specific breed - APBT  Perhaps I'm missing something (or not). They're not recognised by the ANKC; big whoop, nor are a great deal of other breeds which have standards in other registries around the world (not that recognition by a registry, working or otherwise determines whether or not a given breed exists). Exactly. As I said earlier the ANKC are not the only registry and plenty of breeds aren't recognized. The APBT has been around for yonks and used to be used as a service dog in the military etc. They are working dogs first and foremost and loyal, clever, gentle dogs. Fantastic with kids. Maybe people who think they're all just a bomb waiting to go off should do some research and meet some well bred dogs. Making them illegal only means the good breeders are out of the game and the BYBs step in. They have created what they were trying to avoid! I always take Nala to shows with us, she is a good ambassador for the breed and 9 times out of 10 we have a dalmatian and a APBT in the same crate peoples minded are set thinking and questioning what they think they know about the breed.... when we take her for a walk around the venue 9 times out of 10 we are fronted with barking dogs she will not react (99%) of the time and I think thats a pretty darn good effort for any breed, especially one that has been given the image of "dangerous"......its all about education. Good on you, Nala is exactly the type of ambassador we need and a great example of what lovely dogs APBT's are when raised properly, as with any dog. Plus she's ultra gorgeous

Our old chi who has passed away now had a couple of seizures. He would just zone out and shake for a minute or two and then be exhausted afterwards. The vet basically said it could be due to epilepsy but there's no way to know for sure and just to watch him. It stopped after that and it never happened again. He lived to almost 17, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and eventually had to be PTS. If it is happening so frequently I would definitely be looking at medication and getting whatever tests you can done too. Basically once they rule everything else out they say Epilepsy but it can be due to different things. Our boy only had two and didn't have them frequently or consistently enough to warrant further investigation.

I think that's the problem, Rather than accepting that there are different ways to improve statistics, which as requested have been provided as constructive answers, some people would prefer to fight against others who just want the best for the dogs.
-
you not caring about that is a huge problem See again you avoid the question. Trust me when I say I DO care, why else would I be on a dog forum FFS, just not in the context of your answer to that question. Goodness me

Judging by the repeated use of the term "landshark" I wouldn't be surprised. you must be m-sass too, you used the term "land shark" as often as me. Your suspicions are wrong, just as wrong as you all are at twisting what people say to try to make them look bad. You do that yourselves.

Great post Robbi. What was that about anti BSL crusaders not saying anything constructive?
-
Dogs are being murdered because of how they look. Innocent dogs that haven't done anything wrong. Is this right? Yes or no, I don't care who bred them or who owns them. It's a simple question of right or wrong.
