Coroner Calls For Laws On Breeding Restricted Breeds
Dame Aussie replied to Alyosha's topic in In The News
Exactly. Well said. -
I didn't know this was the case, will be reading with interest too.
-
When I worked in a pound we would always call the breeder if we had their details. If we could get onto them and they wanted the dog they would come and get it.
-
Oh he's beautful I love a big boofer :)

Glad to hear the surgery went well, I didn't see this thread till today but our old Chi x (RIP now) had both his patellas done (grooves deepened) at different times and lived to a ripe old age of 17 with no issues. :)

What a fantastic setup OSS - I'm definately gonna ask you for some advice when I get some land to do something like that on :) Agree! That's great.

Mosley was eating a big chunk of dirt the other day *rolleyes* I took it off him, threw it away (they don;t normally eat dirt so I wasnlt worried) and then 5 minutes later noticed Lili was eating the same bit ferals. Hope the banana works.

Our breeder named their pups, we didn't get to choose. Didn't bother me, I wasn't showing or breeding so meh, plus I like the name my pup got anyway :)

They are very protective and yes, they may try to mother lambs (important to teach them to let the sheep do it though so they don't take over!) Eating stillborn lambs is a good thing as it means they are removing dead bodies that might attract predators. It is a very natural thing for a LGD to do. If there were a serious threat they would know it. There is a big difference between a mild warning to keep away and an all systems go alert and they will know the difference. For those interested in LGD behaviour, you might like this video: http://www.youtube.c...d&v=67ObjymUif8 Interesting, we had a nest of baby birds knocked out of a tree once. We came outside to find Mosley sitting very still next to something on the ground. He let us approach but wouldn't come to us when we called. Once we got to him we realised it was a baby bird, still half alive He found 3 others that we hadn't even seen, doing the same thing each time, and then found a dead one, and tried to eat it, when he hadn't even touched the live ones.

Vets Say Owners To Blame For Ballooning Dogs
Dame Aussie replied to samoyedman's topic in In The News
I've had entire and desexed dogs and none have ever been fat. I get told my Aussie is too skinny and have to say, no she's how they are meant to look. *rolleyes* ETA: Not that I've seen many fat Aussies around, too mental maybe?? -
I'd love to rip his face off.

THIS!! Mine follow me from room to room. Mopping and vacuuming is fun with 2 lunging dogs at the equipment (its all a big game to them). The kitchen is seen as where their food comes from and they running around thinking I am making them a feast whenever I'm in it. They bring toys onto my bed and play tug o war when i'm relaxing watching TV. They are definitely NOT candidates for all day crating. In fact I bought one when I got the puppy and returned it 3 days later after she squealed the house down when being in it. Baby gates at our house. Yep, that's my two. Mosley will sometimes have a nap but that's about it. Lili follows me like a shadow, all the time, everytime I move....
-
I would never crate a dog for a whole day. Dog runs are a different story IMO, more room for the dog to move. I have no problem with crates being used, I just dont agree with locking the dog in for long periods of time. I don't assume people who do it it every now and then are bad owners, and I can see where it could be useful if the dog is prone to freaking out and injuring itself, but apart from that I don't get it. It's not something I would ever do. I find it interesting everyone says all their dogs do is sleep...mine obviously haven't seen the note *rolleyes*. I work full time but on days where I am home, I WISH my dogs would sleep all day
-
AFAIK all dogs must be on leash unless in an off leash designated area. Pretty sure it's the same everywhere now.
-
A friend of mines dogs used to always be walked off lead, they would always say they were so well trained they could trust them 100%...till the day one of them saw a rabbit and bolted onto the road getting hit. Never say never.
-
Oh dear! I imagine some problems in the future when TM grows up. Poor dogs mnight suffer from the sounds of this. Yep, that's a worry :/
-
yep thats how they work .Mine pick you up as soon as you slow down out the front of the house about half a kilometre from where we are and let me know to watch out .That dog has heaps of shelter - there are trees there .I give mine kennels and build lean to's for them but they never use them they go where the sheep go - from minus 6 in winter up to 45 in summer ,They dig a hole for a windbreak and even as pups given the choice they prefer the middle of a paddock to a nice warm kennel. Yep, Mosley will lie in the yard with his eyes closed looking totally dead to the world, but the instant a sparrow farts, he's up. We always joke that he never really sleeps as he's always on guard.:) Great pics!
