Okay, I Finally Snapped And Was Rude
Dame Aussie replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
 We had someone drive past once and yell out "Why don't you get a bigger dog?!" but we get the saddle the most. I don't mind though I just think it's funny. -
I assume that the OP means that she doesn't want the dog to be in a crate every time he/she is in the house. She wants the dog to be able to walk around and be with the family without the tree being destroyed. That;s how I took it too. OP, I would do as was said, either block it off from pup or have a small tree up high where pup can't get to it. Oh and watch out for tinsel poo!

Yes, and the big/small dog issue was raised because it was a big dog that attacked and killed a small one, Now, as the large dog in question was not on the BSL list and as far as the information that anyone has presented, was not identified as a previous dangerous dog, X breed, entire or unregistered how would scraping BSL of stopped the poor little dog losing her life? Because if we actually had models in place that have been proven to work, we would have less attacks overall. So how would that have stopped the small dog losing it's life? what Model would have identified the GSD that attacked it from doing so today? If there isn't a model that would have prevented it why bring it or BSL up in the first place? The Calgary model for one, which has been spoken about many times in other threads. Of course, no-one can say if this exact dog would have been attacked or not but if we were using a model that reduces attacks overall, it inly makes sense to say less dogs will lose their lives.

Yes but the BSL issue was raised as an example of it not working. Not to defend the attacking dog or other dogs like it.

CUTE!

How dreadful, but I don't see what BSL has to do with this? Poor lady, and RIP little doggy It has everything to do with it. BSL is supposed to protect the community from dog attacks. Victoria has the strongest and most draconian BSL in the country, with hundreds of dogs being seized and killed because of their appearance within the state. Yet horrible, horrible attacks continue to occur. This is a perfect example of how BSL targets dogs that may never be an issue, and misses dogs that are. Exactly. How many dogs have to die before they admit it doesn't work?

Just the other day a group of people were walking towards us and I said to OH "Ready for the "Where's the saddle?" comment?".... As we passed them one of them said "Wheres your saddle?" I had to laugh. I don't mind it though and I wouldn't be nasty in return! They're just being friendly. -
What a bitch! She was at fault, it was easier and less embarrassing for her to blame it on you. Definitely report it. Hope your boy is ok.

Why is it ok to question large dog owners but not small dog owners? We have been accosted by 3 dogs since we moved house, A Chi, a Pom and a SWF. Do I go around saying small dog owners need to watch themselves/that they're bigger idiots than large dog owners? No. because I know that ANY dog owner can be an idiot, size of the dog has nothing to do with it. At the beach yesterday we met a Malamute, a Kelpie and a SWF. Guess which one carried on like a banshee and hassled us the most? But again, I don't judge EVERY small dog owner by the actions of a few.

Don't be too hard on yourself PD , they get into things so bloody quick sometimes. At least you know and you can keep an eye on him, I hope it comes out the other end soon :)

Where is the evidence for this?

My LGD is inside at night due to barking. We don't have a dog door but I think if we did, he'd eat the face off anyone who looked through it

'cos they are often not house dogs/can escape easier/are not properly socialised because they are 'guarding' the house /are not under full control as owners do not have the skills /..are perhaps of a certain temperament bred for specifically .. And because they're bigger, a bigger dog will normally be able to do more damage than a small one. I'd guess we don't hear about lots of minor attacks where small dogs were involved and there were no serious injuries because the dog was small and easier to be kicked off etc. If my dogs got out one day the last thing they would do would be to go on an attacking rampage. One would lick everyone to death and then they'd both get hit by cars most likely Of course, because you're a good owner!

I agree, a couple of chucks is one thing but if he has been vomiting all day (not sure how long he has been vomiting for? Is he still doing it?) then I would be taking him in. -
Whichever, what a gorgeous face
